Well you know I'd be interested when I heard the interviewee was James, and it was all anime.

I found myself answering the interview question quite a bit (and will probably post them here or make my own psudo-column out of it in a period of severe boredom.) I also found myself realising there was quite a bit I knew that James didn't (Dragon Ball originally debuted in 1986, so it's older than me) speaking of that, you're talking how weird it was that James was in middle school where you were graduating Mike, imagine if it were me.

On the topic of mature vs. hentai. There is a huge fucking difference, one of my fave animes (Kimi ga Nozomo Eien/Rumbling Hearts) would fit in mature very easily, there is nudity, there are sex scenes, though they'd be "tasteful" as some would say, that said the show has an incredibly deep, thought out tear jerking (then flood causing) story. Hentai on the other hand is, as James said, just fucking scenes interspliced with a horrid plot and even worse voice acting (funny thing is KGNE/RH started as an H-game)

Bringing up Adult Swim, just got it (thank you piracyu....more on that later) and plan on getting into a few (the ones that YTV doesn't already have) when looped back to episode one, this happened with Neon Genesis Evangellion (which you brought up so well), other fuinny story, we got no VCR/TiVo/anything that can record TV in the room with the pirated dish. and the two times the show is on are midnight & 3:30 AM, I have to be up at 7 for school, I also have two parents that can't know I' msleep depriving myself to watch this....fun huh. Also, considering that this (from what I heard) is insanely deep, confusing and convoluted.....let's just say it'll make for an interesting Anticipation in 2 months time.

As far as downloading/piracy of anime goes...I do pirate it, for the simple reasonI do not have the cash to buy anime on a regular schedule. I subscribe to one manga series (Genshiken) and I barely have enough to pay for that every 2 months.

One last thing, the Peach Girl thing was posted by you Mike, I just got into a huge rant because one of my favorite (at the time) animes was getting an unneeded dragging through the mud, even though I soured on trhe series, I still say it was unfair to it.

Not ALL Hentai is like that. There are some with actual plots that make some sense (for instance, Kite and Perfect Blue). To be honest, I think your example is poor to begin with. If it's inspired by an H-game, it's at least borderline hentai, whether it's been toned down a lot or not. Kind of like those toned down Marilyn Chambers movies they used to show on USA late at night. It's not really porn, but come on.

Oh, and GoldenBoy, though borderline hentai (it's way too much fan service to be simply a fan service show, but not quite outright hentai), is one of the funniest anime EVER. You have to watch it. Everybody.

A good example of a "mature" anime would probably be something like Samurai Champloo. No explicit showing of sex, but there is some nudity and a lot of innuendo, and violence. Plus a lot of mature themes, including drug use, child pornography, prostitution, and piracy (like ARRGGGHHH!, not BitTorrent). In fact, I haven't watched the editing job CN has done for it, but I really wonder how they got it (and NGE, as well) to pass censors. I know cable broadcasts aren't censored after 10pm or so, but still, CN has some standards. I really doubt either show would make it uncut.

NGE on Anticipation, though? Rock on. That should be some hilarious stuff. You just going to go on the last episode or the movies as well?

I'll also throw in the original Mezzo Forte as an anime with graphic sex scenes, but a decent action plot. I probably should have explained a little more in-depth on the hentai question, but meh. Didn't really feel like it. I need to see the uncut Samurai Champloo, it seems.

I think this whole conversation came off really well, but I also think it could have been a lot better had I not stumbled so many times trying to word my answers. I guess I was somewhat nervous.

Finally listened to the show, and it kept my interest despite my indifference to most anime. Loved the format, and it would be cool to see it again with another guest and topic; movies, comics, video games (wink wink, nudge nudge).
