ShaunKL Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZGFjBmD41Q On one hand this is very exciting, getting the conclusion to the trilogy so soon. On the other hand this terrifies the living daylights out of me. Mass Effect came out in late 2007, Mass Effect 2 came out in early 2010. Mass Effect 3 is coming out fall next year. I have to think they'll push the date back. Quote
Dan Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 I really, really hope they aren't rushing this game to get it out so quickly. I'd much rather wait a few years and have something on par with the first two. Then again, woot! Mass Effect 3! Quote
KnightWing Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 On the other hand this terrifies the living daylights out of me. Mass Effect came out in late 2007, Mass Effect 2 came out in early 2010. Mass Effect 3 is coming out fall next year. I have to think they'll push the date back. Let's not freak out. ME1 came out in late November of 07, and ME2 came out in January of 10. The distance is barely over two years. If ME3 comes out in fall of 11, then it's only a few months shy of the same 2-year timeframe. Since the biggest factor in ME2's delay was the re-working of the entire game engine—which they likely won't have to do for 3—it should be just fine. Quote
ShaunKL Posted December 13, 2010 Author Report Posted December 13, 2010 Let me reword myself, I'm not terrified, but I am worried. They are making the big end-all conclusion in under two-years. From pure assumption (and you know what assuming does to you and me) I'd guess that they're not messing with gameplay that much and are focused on the locales and such. Quote
KnightWing Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 As long as they're not changing any of the major code in the game, there'll probably be more time devoted to game design, story, and the rest than either of the other two games. Quote
ShaunKL Posted December 13, 2010 Author Report Posted December 13, 2010 See how much I suck at writing? And then you come in and make my point in one sentence. Quote
dc20willsave Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 So, If I'm interpreting this right,it sounds like if you've already chosen romance options in Mass Effect 1 or 2, you won't get new ones in 3. However, I'm more happy that they're finally including a M/M romance option. About time BioWare caught up to itself. Quote
JackFetch Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 I wish they didn't do the romance stuff at all. I want to play the story, not worry about getting laid. I'll save that for real life. Quote
KnightWing Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 I think you're in the vast, vast minority on that one. But the romance stuff isn't necessary anyway, is it? Quote
JackFetch Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 It's to the point that it's all anyone talks about when it comes to Bioware games now. How about worrying about the game instead of "but can I bone the blue chick/elf"? It's just a gimmick. Quote
Guest Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 I'll go on record and say that the Tali romance in ME2 was the best part of that game, and that's not disparaging the rest of it. They're character development tools, and damn effective ones. It's not like they're mandatory. Quote
dc20willsave Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 They're character development tools, and damn effective ones. It's not like they're mandatory. Exactly. Hell, I avoided them like the plague in the first two games since I was always sure the next one would let me have a boyfriend. Quote
dc20willsave Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 It needs to be March already. Quote
Dan Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Aargh. I buy two, MAYBE three games a year. I am a very casual gamer. I am also a MAJOR Mass Effect fanboy. And I still have not finshed either Skyrim or Arkham City. I need to get cracking on those, because Mass Effect MUST be bought midnight release day and jumped on immediately. Quote
Guest Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 One does not simply finish Skyrim. Quote
dc20willsave Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Yeah, you play Skyrim until you believe that your character has exhausted all realms of possibility for them and then you retire them for a little while and start a new character, completely a diametric opposite really, and send him through the world until you find yourself playing a quest that your previous character never completed. So, you take out the original character and send them through the same quest chain and, sure enough, you found yourself doing things completely different since after all, Thanlia had an invisibility spell while Grexel had a flaming sword. Quote
KnightWing Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Guys, question: I never finished Mass Effect 1 (because of various technical problems with my TV at the time, long story) and I never got to 2. Should I run out and buy 1 and 2 and marathon them ASAP before 3 comes out? Quote
Dan Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Again, not the world's biggest gamer, but 2 is one of the greatest games I've ever played. Quote
Guest Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 If you have any intention to play 3, yes. It's one big story. Quote
dc20willsave Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 If it's like Two, there will be a thing before the Prologue where you can adjust some of the variables (Who survived Mass Effect 1 &2, who did you romance if anyone, Did Shepherd activate the Psycho Driver and become Evil Shepherd) but, as I'm playing Mass Effect 2on the PS3 right now, it's not the same as transfering your old character. There are just little things that the game assumed you wouldn't or would do. So, take my advice, pick up Mass Effect 1 & 2 (Make sure to pick up the Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival DLC for 2) and if you don't get it done by time the new one comes out, don't sweat it. I know I won't be getting 3 until Spring Break so just sit back and avoid spoilers. Quote
KnightWing Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Sweet. Looks like I'll be playing through those soon, then. I was wondering about whether to get ME2 on the PS3 or 360, too, so that's really helpful. Thanks! Quote
dc20willsave Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 How am I only now learning that Clint Mansell is doing the score for Mass Effect 3? Quote
dc20willsave Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 The demo comes out on the 14th but you can download it early if you complete a fucking annoying little game on the Facebook App. Initial thoughts: I kinda like what they've done. Combat is a little stream-lined. Nothing is taken out, it just feels more clean. One thing I never really cared about in the first two games was the music. It feels epic enough in this one for me to give two fucks. Seriously, it needs to be March already. Quote
dc20willsave Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 Also, the DLC party member accidentally got leaked. Huge spoilers for what I'm sure is a plot point. Note that the DLC is launchday and free with the collector's edition. Quote
KnightWing Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 Just finished the first game. I thought it was "pretty good" up until the ending, which was just jaw-droppingly amazing. Quote
