  1. The two of you had a hard task with this, since Edward Scissorhands is quite possibly my favorite non-superhero movie. When you said that you weren't going to change much of the plot, just streamline things a bit I wasn't so against that idea. While I really don't want to see a remake of this, since I don't think there's any team out there like Burton-Elfman-Depp at the top of their game. You made some really good choices, though, I especially like Guillermo del Toro directing.

  2. I would like to give a plea for fannish tolerance. (Not here, just in general.) It's never been more clear to me than recently, and especially in the past 24 hours, how many new fans have come on board in the past few years. This is the first regeneration for a significant chunk of fandom, and there is wailing and gnashing of teeth. If you're a new fan, welcome aboard, and you will make it through this. In a few months we'll see what the new Doctor brings. Lots of you will like him, some of you won't. It happens. The show continues regardless, and hopefully you will still enjoy it like you do now. As for longtime fans, remember that you had a first regeneration once too, and you made it through, so please try not to shout down fans who are having a tough time with Smith leaving.

This is the first regen I've seen after watching the Doctor's run from beginning to end as it was happening in real time. Personally I feel very melancholic, and it still hasn't fully set in yet. Whenever thinking back to that last scene, my brain can't reconcile the great writing with the heavy emotion. DAMN YOU INTERNET AGE FICTION!

Same here Don. I got into DW late-2011, and I always had the feeling that Smith was going to be my Doctor. And now he is, so saying goodbye to him is so hard but ultimately I'm at peace now.

Now, to get into Eleven's expanded universe stuff. This week they just fixed the problem I've had when they released that Doctor Who comic special written by Paul Cornell. I think it's a great shame that he never wrote an episode for Eleven.

  3. That reminds me of another positive to the 50th special. Now that the mystery of the Impossible Girl has been revealed, we can now see the Doctor treating Clara more like a friend and less like a puzzle.(Which I personally never saw, but that could be to do with Matt and Jenna's chemistry.)

  4. From Moffat

"I’ve been really, really quite careful about the numbering of the Doctors. He’s very specific, the John Hurt Doctor, that he doesn’t take the name of the Doctor. He doesn’t call himself that. He’s the same Time Lord, the same being as the Doctors either side of him, but he’s the one who says, ‘I’m not the Doctor.’ So the Eleventh Doctor is still the Eleventh Doctor, the Tenth Doctor is still the Tenth…Technically, if you really counted it, the David Tennant Doctor is two Doctors, on account of the Meta-Crisis Doctor [in Journey's End]… It’s not a matter of counting the regenerations, but of counting the faces of the Time Lord that calls himself the Doctor. There’s an anomaly Doctor slotted in somewhere, that’s all. In the script to The Day of the Doctor, Matt’s Doctor was called the Eleventh, and David’s was called the Tenth, so the numbering stays exactly the same – and we call Peter Capaldi the Twelfth Doctor."

  5. One thing I've read about River's reaction to Rory at the prison is that maybe it's just after she saw them get sent back to the past by the Weeping Angels.

Another Classic Who connection I think I picked up on in A Good Man Goes to War was the music when the Doctor puts on the hood again. It could just be me, but it had a bounciness(I guess?) that felt like Classic Who music.

  6. $1.05 for a 22 page comic today...Man. I would be just as broke as I am today, but with much more to show for it.

Anyways, Brave and the Bold sounds like a fun crazy book to read. I should try reading a few Aparo and Haney issues sometime. Mostly for the art. I've seen a couple scans online and man oh man, did Aparo draw pretty pictures.

Great first episode, Mike and Dan! Always awesome to have you two together!

  7. Just saw Charade with Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. Freaking loved it. So much fun and so witty. At this point I've seen five of her movies and I'd rank them:

    1. Funny Face - Mostly for the songs. I watch the numbers when I'm having a bad day.

    2. Charade

    3. How To Steal A Million - Another really fun one.

    4. Wait Until Dark - Very suspenseful stuff.

    5. Breakfast at Tiffany's - I have some fun with this but it mostly doesn't stick with me.

  8. Edward Scissorhands is my favorite. That movie speaks to me on a deep emotional level. Sweeney Todd is a close second. Special mention to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was the only Burton movie I loved as a kid.

Ed Wood is a really good movie but I hesitate to call that his best because there's not really any trace of the Burton style in it. Not that it would make sense to have the weird visuals and the gothic music but I think for something to be the best Tim Burton movie it has to be done in his style. That's why I'm going with Big Fish as his best.

  9. Listening to all the talk about Matt and the clips and everything got me emotional. Matt's my Doctor and this is my first time having to deal with a regeneration as it happens.

"11 is 7 done right" I never made the connection but that makes perfect sense. I guess that's why they're my favorites from their respective eras.
