  1. Looking for new Forums, people! I feel like the next one should be director-specific, so give me ideas.

NB) Edgar Wright has been mentioned, but he has 7 films proper and the minimum bar is 8 films. I don't want a director with 20+ films, but a happy medium in between would be great.

But non-director ideas would be great too!

  2. I think Jungle Boy is inevitable at this point - Sammy is being teased as the next opponent and I don't see that being dragged out through to Full Gear given that it's 6-7 weeks away, despite my ideal booking scenario. Damn you, Fuego Del Sol!!

I've been meaning to do a full Bond watch-through, especially because there are some big ones (GoldenEye) I've still never seen.

Goldeneye is a must - what else qualifies, so that I can pour on further scorn?

I remember when I said the same thing during my Bond watch-thru.  8 years later, the DVD is still sitting there unwatched.

    HA!

  4. Yes, you can help influence not only the film Pandy & I use as the joint review, but the homework we assign each other to plot the range of their career. As announced in Episode 83, our subject will be Tim Curry.

Pandy & I will take an executive decision on what makes the joint review by Friday 27 August so get your ideas in before then!

NB) We won't be covering The Shadow.

  5. And gave his gimmick to Alexa Bliss.

I like Wyatt's mind for the business, but WWE didn't book it as it needed for proper success (granted, as with most booking input from wrestlers, it involves lengthy winning streaks). I don't want to see him in AEW but I imagine he could do wonders in somewhere like Impact or NWA - ROH probably demand a higher workrate, although in the grand scheme of things, they should be lucky to get anyone.

I'm thinking Hackers and Maleficent, with Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Sky Captain, or The Tourist as the third.

I've seen none of these, save Sky Captain, so I can't vouch for quality.

Bloody hell, I forgot we'd done Sky Captain for Pulp Diction!

NB) We're also not doing Sky Captain

Pandy & I will take an executive decision on what makes the joint review by Friday 25 June so get your ideas in before then!

NB) We won't be covering Girl, Interrupted or Wanted.

  8. Blade Runner. Both films offer fascinating insights into humanity from a sci-fi POV. But Blade Runner has a plot and characters to drive along the story, with a career-defining performance from Rutger Hauer. 2001 is just the wrong side of pretentious, although everything I said above rings true for it - I use it as a gateway on my Flickchart. If a film is very good to me, but has no ambition, subtext or something else that makes it stand out, it cannot surpass 2001.

Bryan Danielson has allowed his WWE contract to expire.

I'm refusing to get *too* carried away by the news as the smart money is on him signing a part time deal with WWE for huge money as he plays out the autumnal years of his career.

The sliver of hope I do hold is that the wrestler in him is itching to have some dream matches outside of WWE before he retires, which doesn't neccessarily means he signs for New Japan or AEW, but has some kind of farewell indie tour.

Never seen it! Hopefully to be rectified before the official call up to Flipchart Forums.

    Fucking WHAT?

I'll debrief you next time we talk. And it's Flickchart Forums, you heathen - do not blaspheme against my religion....

NB) We won't be covering The Matrix, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice or Ant-Man and The Wasp.

My gut answer is “The Wizard of Oz is a fucking masterpiece and 2001: A Space Odyssey is fucking dull.”

The honest answer is that Wizard is due for a rewatch in light of HAA! and I’ve only seen 2001 once and it was about ten years ago (in fact, both are now currently on why watchlist for HBO Max, which I got last week).

Even if I end up liking 2001 next time, though, it’s extremely unlikely I’d rank it anywhere near Wizard in terms of quality, soul, or legacy.

I've said before - in the Nolan Flickchart Forum if memory serves, so you were there - that 2001 is pretentious wank. And whilst I stand by that, it is also a hugely layered film and I can see why it's so influential and revered. The lack of dialogue helps & hinders it, but it's the ending that gets my goat over everything else. But I'd give it props for quality, soul, or legacy.

Wizard of Oz, well, the podcast will be edited later this week. Don't get me wrong; I don't slate it, but I was less impressed with this most recent viewing.

As much fun as the Hook running gag is, wonder if any other film has four, or more, HAA subjects as major subjects of an ensemble, that hasn’t been featured on the podcast?

I think the closest we get is Ghostbusters, as we've had episodes on Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver.

Oh, no, I'm wrong - Nolan Bat films. Begins: Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Rutger Hauer. TDK: Same, but substitute Hauer for Heath Ledger. Then again, HAA was never going to cover either film due to The Dark Knight Discussions series, so probably still Ghostbusters.

Maybe I was distracted listening while driving, but with the "Richard Gere" clips this was finally the first HAA! episode where I had no idea what was going on

So there's this urban legend about Richard Gere involving a gerbil. Also, 'The Death Camp of Tolerance' is a South Park episode.

Mutually exclusive, but when combined, it forms the basis of what we were going for.

  15. Hey, comics readers - riddle me this.

I'm currently watching through the first season of the 90s Spider-Man series (THAT season, not the 35 that followed) and I've watched the Scorpion origin story. Now in both the cartoon and, according to wikipedia re: the comics origin, Jameson basically turned Gargan into the Scorpion to take down Spider-Man. So my question: has Jameson EVER been jailed/held responsible for this, other than Gargan targetting him out of vengeance? You'd think that'd be quite disqualifying for him holding his brief as editor of a newspaper.
