  1. Bruce Willis is really the only guy I can think of who can star in different action films and be different people.

He used to be like that, now he's just cool shaved head Bruce Willis. But yeah in the 90's when he was doing 12 Monkeys and stuff like that he was a lot more adaptable.

  2. Do you think that is the difference between a comic and a comic movie? Things that work on the pages don't necessarily translate to the screen.

Jack I just reread your thoughts earlier on the changes in the script and I think that was really apparent. For starters the other GL's were big names who had hardly any screen time at all. It's like WB told them that they needed more Blake Lively, or something else so they just dropped all the Oa things.

I can't see how it cost $200m though, as the effects weren't that great?

  3. Finally saw this last night. Not sure what make of it as my only exposure to GL has been through the JLA Animated series. Overall I think it had too many things that it was trying to do. Parralax seemed too big a villain to have for a first movie, especially for a rookie GL. They should have done something similar to the story with Hammond, but being infected with some other alien, so it was more of a local threat but with alien powers.

Also, I felt like too many people died, which is probably an odd thing to say.

  4. This has been in my signature, but I know a lot of people turn them off, so I'm dropping it in this thread.

It's a pretty fun game and he's going to start working on some others soon, which I'll use this thread for.

The cost is $0.99 but if anyone is keen to check it out, I'm happy to reimburse all Earth-2 stalwarts for their purchase via PayPal.

My friend just released a new game for iOS and Android. I'm very excited for him. Check it out!

  5. They've denied that about 100 times, but no-one believes their denial.

To be honest, I hope it isn't Khan, I think it would ruin the reboot a bit. I know it would be alternate Khan and the story is that no matter what universe they are in, they are foes, but I wouldn't be surprised if Khan is in it, that he is good, not evil.

  6. Igby Goes Down Another one of those movies where I wonder how it took my this long to watch it. Really quirky not sure how I would describe it in a movie A meets movie B way. Edit. I'm an idiot, just realised it's Catcher in the Rye in film form. Well not exactly, but Igby definitely has a lot of Holden Caulfield about him.

Sons of Anarchy - Season 4 Only 2 episodes in, the quality is still really good, but I think it might be in that danger category where they think they have to think up crazier shit each season to get people to watch.

  7. So he's still English. That should get some people's panties unbunched.

    Hehehe, nice call.

I'll watch it and then unfairly compare it to the current British one, as it's obvious they are trying to do different things.

  8. Well I don't get the Stewart inner beauty thing either? I understand them wanting quirky attractive to go with the story line, I just don't get the Stewart appeal especially compared with Theron. Maybe someone like Mary Elizabeth Winstead, she did quirky hot pretty well in Scott Pilgrim? Hell even Anna Kendrick would have been interesting.

  9. I realised recently that I had a George moment about 5 years, when I got asked up for coffee and knocked it back because it was late on a week night. At least now I can tell my parents why I was single for so long, I am an IDIOT~!

  10. A lot of studio marketing nonsense analysis went into the development of this story. Iron Man's dominance is proof of that. Whedon knows these characters. He knows Cap is supposed to be the team leader. He knows that Cap could take any one of the Avengers in a fight through sheer tactical genius. But marketing wisdom dictated that RDJ be the leading man. That much was out of Whedon's hands.

We cover this briefly in our Dread Media review. Check it out.

To not like the Avengers means you want Loki to win. That's been proven by science.

While watching the movie, I was thinking about the Civil War run and about the Iron Man / Cap dynamic about who the leader is. I don't think the Cap movie did a job of showing he is a tactical genius, just a kid with a big heart, so for the first Avengers movie it wasn't a bad idea to have IM as the figure head. I wouldn't be surprised if they end the trilogy with Cap being the undisputed leader of the team.

And I always want Loki to win, if only because he's so much fun!

  11. I don't disagree with what Des is saying about the simplicity of the of the movie. I just didn't think it makes that much difference to what this movie was trying to do, which was give fanboys a joygasm, appealing to movie buffs in general was secondary. And like Des said, he paid to see it twice, so it's not a complete pile of shit, it's just not awards worthy either. Safe was a good word to describe it, all it had to do was not shit on fans and it would be a huge success. Once Marvel started going down the Avengers path, and the lead in films were successful, they were probably always going to go safe. That said, giving a $200m budget to a relative first timer was risky for Marvel, so maybe Joss was being safe, not the studio?

I thought some downside was upside, not everyone had an involved story arc, but that was because they were trying hard to give everyone equal screen time (ish). I thought what they did with Hawkeye was good for someone with no other set-up. I'm also aware that there are going to be 3 Avengers movies, so some things that were missing might be still to come.
