  1. My favorite comic shop just had an anniversary sale where everything storewide (excluding the new issues) was 50% or better. This caused me to get the run of Wednesday Comics for $15. Now my question is: how is the best way to read it? I know that the hard cover does it story by story rather then page by page so that made me wonder if there are segments that read better as one chunk like the HC or just to read the full issues at once like they were made?

  2. I can't find it any place else so did everyone see that DC is restarting it's books with #1's in Aug? I'm not sure how I feel about it because some of the articles talking about it seem to point to a massive retcon (Like Spider-Man: One More Day big and stupid) while others just seem to say new look and they will reset the ages of the characters. Thoughts?

I also have some new series stories on DVD-R taped off of TV re-airings (and thus some are edited and some are not)

    The Christmas Invasion

    The Runaway Bride

    The Next Doctor

    Planet of the Dead

    The Waters of Mars

  4. While I'd love to I just got the Rifftrax for Batman & Robin and think I shall be watching that tonight perhaps a few other super hero movie riffs as well. I do love Die Hard however. My first time seeing it was actually at an arthouse cinema that played both #1 & #2 for Christmas. Now I have all four on DVD. Have fun Everyone!

  5. I was not able to hit all three shops in my local area but before and after taking my Mom out for a Pre-Mother's Day lunch I was able to get...

Young Justice/Batman: Brave & The Bold Super Sampler

    Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse

Star Wars: The Clone Wars/Avatar: The Last Airbender

    The Amazing Spider-Man

    Sonic The Hedgehog

And the FCBD Green Lantern HeroClix

Not too bad really. I think I'd like to have gotten the Thor/Captain America comic rather than the Spidey but it was what was there at the second store we went to, which had a bad selection and a one per person limit being handed out by a man who would point to the short list of comics they had.

I also picked up the DC Comics Presents reprint of Son of Superman as well as the back issue of Booster Gold #5 (The Killing Joke issue).

    Pretty good day, I'd say.

  6. I was looking at the website for a movie theatre near my current university (I may change soon...) but I noticed that in January they are doing a James Bond film festival with three double features over two weekends. They will be showing Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Live and Let Die, and Octopussy and I hope to go to one if not all of them. This got me thinking how many Bond films has every one seen in a film theatre? Also where any re-releases like this kitschy theatre is doing? At this point my only theatrical Bonds are Casino Royale (Nov. 2006), and Quantum of Solace (Nov. 14th 2008- Opening Day) both first run showings. Everyone else?

  7. Also Ian, the revival is also in large part due to the Sopranos and Family Guy both having the song play a major role in episodes of their show's, before Glee ever got to it.

I just finally listened to the show but this is something I wanted to address myself. As you have I will add that the song was also in Scrubs, The Apprentice, the parody film The Comebacks, and the Adam Sandler family film Bedtime Stories before Glee did it. I'd like to blame Family Guy most of all though.

On the topic of Glee itself It's fine if you don't enjoy it however I felt a bit uncomfortable listening to the profanity laden bashing of it and it's cast since a friend of a friend is a main cast member. I did a movie with a fellow who used to be in a band with Kevin McHale. Both are very nice guys. Also I can't hate something COMPLETLY with Jane Lynch in it.. she's done loads of paycheck movies that were as good as a breakfast of razor blades but I love that lady.

On Scott Pilgrim I was surprised that when I saw it at a midnight showing with my father in tow. He is now 61 and enjoyed it very much. He is far from a gamer aside from NES games Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros in the early 90's with me as a child however I don't think that everyone needs to be into games to enjoy it. My father's reaction to the film was echoed in AO Scott's review later that day 'There are some movies about youth that just make you feel old, even if you aren’t. “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,”.... has the opposite effect. Its speedy, funny, happy-sad spirit is so infectious that the movie makes you feel at home in its world even if the landscape is, at first glance, unfamiliar.' I'd say in my father's case that was completely true even if it may not be the norm... I however knew I'd like it being a young unemployed Canadian who enjoyed the comics.

Great show anyhow, Ian. :) Glad you are finally doing The Mask films. Cheers.

  8. University causes me to fall behind in fun things in both real life (hanging out with friends, sleep) and online (keeping up to date with forums and podcasts). That's an annoyance... sometimes minor other times more so.

Dear god, this was my first post since July! It's more serious than I thought...

  9. I loved Beavis and Butthead. When I was 13.

It was a product of its time. They'll push it hard for about two weeks and then forget about it.

Indeed they will. I am reminded of Spike TV's "The Strip" cartoon line up they backed for about three days. It was headlined by the adult version of Ren & Stimpy... Yes, I'm sure this come back will go well.

  10. Just got $35 for Tangent: Superman's Reign, Joker's Asylum (Vol. 1), Batman: RIP (with Batman and the Outsiders and Robin tie-ins),Batman: Gotham After Midnight, Batman: Cacophony, Muppet Peter Pan, Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas #1 & 2, Spider-Man Saga #1-4, five issues of Scooby-Doo and a bunch of issues of other truthfully less important stuff at a local comic shop. I feel sort of lowballed looking at the same stuff on eBay, now. :gah::doh: Well... They were not that important to me, hence why I was selling them, but going into university a LITTLE more money sure would have been.

  11. Deary me! Adham's Ian impression, Mike's plea to get Casino Royale regraded, Stavros's puns, Adham's consoling me about not being him, I-Wizzle's return, the last of our dear Moore looks older than jokes, and so much Other Greatness! What a wonderful show! So sad it see the end of it all. Thanks again, guys.

  12. I'm at school so I only, in a rather vain manor, checked to see how much my voicemail was cut down, if at all. Hearing that I must say the name of the band is called Me First and the Gimme Gimmes on the album Have a Ball. I look forward to getting home and listening to the full show in about 15 minutes. Hooray!

  13. Blackest Night and Green Lantern during the event were my first bits of prolonged exposure to GL in comic continuity, and I for one am glad it was. True, I've been told I should have read Rebirth and the Sinestro Corps Wars first but I did not and while I'm sure I will someday I thoroughly enjoyed the series and understood most everything thrown at me. Although I'm sad to see the Blackest Night end it was a wonderful story and real makes up for the head-scratcher that was Final Crisis. I'm sure we can expect great things from Brightest Day, even though I personally have to wait for the Trades of that series. Damn, lack of money. <_<

All in all, I'd say hardy thank you is in order to Johns and to Reis for such fun in the last year.
