  1. All though I have not read 'Fire' Efron does not bother me. I kind of liked his SNL episode and Entourage cameo. I know that with that Orson Wells movie and some Access Hollywood bull he's said he wants to do more serious work and why not let him try lots of actors have to do dreck before they get what they'd like.

Also before I finish this post even though THIS site it not complaining about this I must say, this casting not is Disney's fault....

  2. As of this writing I have two classes and a Spanish quiz to attend, and I STILL am considering skipping them just to listen to this.

Do it. I am in class right now but I am longing to finish this. I am now only at the gun barrel sequence...

  3. Thanks everyone and don't worry anybody, although a few things touched upon I may use, I never intended use the exact outline that NightWing made. My essay can use help but it indeed needs to be MY essay. Thanks again to all who've helped and any who still may want to.

  4. Which is the trouble right now, but I'd still have to do a rough draft of the one since it's only two days after the Winter Vacation that the draft is due. I may attempt two, one DC and one Superman centred in the next few days in case she rejects the idea of going back to Superman only.

  5. Being in high school a yet another year (by choice), I must take classes. One of the ones chosen this year was World History. For my class I need to write an essay about something for the final and either relate it to the course or show it's impact on history.

Now while some are doing normal history topics, on person is doing the musical Chicago (God knowth how that will work), while another is relating Harry Potter to WWII. I had planned on doing mine on Superman being inspired by 'What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way' and had planned on doing a 'why the World needed a Superman' kind of thing.

My teacher thought it would be too hard to write about the impact of Superman alone and suggested comics as a whole, I told her that's to vast a topic and we settled on the impact of the stories, charters, past, and future of DC Comics on society, history, and the way we tell stories as well as proving that they are our modern day myths in the vain of stories Greek gods and Norse Mythology .

I find myself in the conundrum of not knowing how to present it all as even though its a much smaller scale thing than comics in general, it's still a humongous topic. I had planned on touching upon the advancements of Women, African-Americans, LGBT people (Lois Lane, Wonder Woman, Steel, Static, Batwoman/Question)and the serious issues like drugs and HIV (Both a problem with one Green Arrow's Speedy-s) that have been covered in these 'silly books'. I wanted to write about the obstacles of Seduction of the Innocent, the dark 80's stories like Watchmen and The Killing Joke, and the impact of the films and TV series with talk of The Dark Knight being #2 in the world.

I have a week until the rough draft is due then a few days perhaps a week or two until the final and I'm being to worry as although my books and DVD documentaries are helpful there is just so much to talk about a what is really relevant? I'm a tad embarrassed to ask this but does anyone have any ideas on how to fix (or being fixing) this into a proper essay format, and not just 'I like this, here's a few barley related facts'?

    Thanks in advance.

  6. I'm listening right now and loving it but I think Cumming is more well known then given credit for. Families know him from the Spy Kids films where he played Fegan Floop among other family films, quirky groups know him from Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, Musical fans know him from 1999's version of Annie and Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, checking IMdB seems that he has had large or recurring roles on Gay series like 'The L Word' and 'Rick & Steve the Happiest Gay Couple in All the World' and then there is his fragrance based solely on the fact he has a rather unfortunate name. True these may be mostly niche markets and perhaps it because of my OWN age but I've always thought of he was most well know as being Floop in the Spy Kids films, a hit where he had no silly makeup so he was recognizable.

  7. There seems to be alot of ignorance all over the Internet, about this. Disney is a studio like any other. They have been licensing out Marvel cartoons from the 60's and 90's for some time now (X-Men's show is a big seller for us) and it just makes sense for the company. They do not do only G rated fare as by using other divisions they have made such things as Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, High Fidelity, The Sixth Sense, Good Morning, Vietnam, Scary Movie, Kill Bill, The Crow among others. Disney owns such companies and divisons as Pixar Animation Sudios, Muppets Studio, ESPN, ABC, Hollywood Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, Miramax, Lifetime, Hollywood Records and MANY others. It's just a new arm of a very large company.

This may also help Disney & Marvel as neither have been performing as well as in the past(Sans Marvel's film returns). Disney will not have Spider-Man save the Jonas Brothers or anything silly like that. Warner Brothers owns DC Comics but you don't see Wonder Woman having lunch with Tweety bird... and if something like DOES happen its a few second gag in Looney Tunes cartoon.

The possibility of Marvel properties in the parks are really the only possible intrusions I can foresee. As it happened for a couple of years with the Power Rangers when we got them from Fox. If they do come to the parks this may mess with Universal as Spider-man and other Marvel Properties have been in those parks for some time.

  8. Hey! I was at that Panel! I recall laughing alot and getting excited for Zatanna ongoing, confused about Dan DiDio 's explanation of Ambush Bug, disappointed that he would only reveal that the BB series will be 6 issues and not a team or something and letting out an embarrassing cry of YES! to hear Dan say to watch GA in the coming year. Lots of fun, epically for a panel I almost did not go to.

  9. So I found out my local shop lost whatever thing it was written that I wanted GL & BN books so I may have to go to other places to try to find them or wait for reprints but I do want to know what is needed with Blackest Night? I want the main story of GL & BN but do I need any minis or corps books as well?

  10. I had a dream about earth-2 last night.

Mike had taken over the world with James and Ian acting as General and Prime minister. Together they banned non-earth-2 Podcasts and destroyed Milwaukee.

    Very strange night....

  11. I've been excited for and dreading this episode since the Batman '89 show and let me say you did not disappoint. This is my favourite of the 89-97 series. I remember watching the VHS over and over again and loving it. I was almost or just 4 at that time it was released so I have know idea when I watched it for the first time. I do know that when the tape for Batman & Robin came out two years later at 5 or 6 I was sick with a fever or something and although I thought it was OK I wanted to watch B:TAS or Forever instead. At the time I thought my fever was what ruined B&R for me but then I saw it again, but I digress.

I was all ready for this show with my late lunch and by the end normal timed dinner along with one of the Batman Forever glass McDonald's mugs (which I got two of four of at antique shop last year while listening to WFP) and I could’t have had more fun listening but a few things that came up through the recording that i’d like to comment on....

    1) I never never NEVER needed to hear James begging ‘Fuck me, Fuck Me, Fuck me!’

    2) "Caffeine will kill ‘ya!" is definitely a good quip.

    3) Batman in the courtroom- funniest visualisation I’ve had in a long time.

    4) Ian: “Ah. ..... I was saying goodbye” made me laugh so much I did something normally reserved for silly kids shows/cartoons....and while I don’t feel right saying it even though its earth-2 and alot of things get said here... milk+laughter=??? I’m just glad it wasn’t the cherry soda I had earlier.

    5) Mike..... Dick.....*sigh*....

    6) Debi Mazar who plays Spice was on a season of LA Law but is likely best know for playing the foul mouthed publicist, Shauna on HBO’s show Entourage OR families may know her as the villain of Beethoven's 2nd.

    7) Mike, I believe that with Riddler’s scheme, the Box was only in Gotham as a test market. Normally new Home entertainment tech (DVD, Self Destructing DVD, Home polarized 3D, Blu-Ray ect.) start in only 1-10 cities to see how it may do before going nationwide.

    8) Bob Kane died in ’98... Just long enough to have seen Batman & Robin.

    9) Val Kilmer was Bob Kane’s favourite Batman/Bruce Wayne and personally of the three of the nineties I would tend to agree. But I feel there was more Bruce there than apparently anybody else does. At least it’s not Clooney who was never really Batman just his silly Bruce in the suit.

    10) The Joker was my least favorite part of this film as like you've said he was not portrayed all like himself. The worst part is Tommy Lee Jones could have done Harvey well if he were more like the kind of person he is in other films. The reserved Tommy Lee Jones you always see in films and interviews instead of Tommy Lee pretending to be Robin Williams.

    11) You missed my other big problem with the film... the one word line.... “Joygasm”. :baby:

    12) I personally think Riddler works in this film but I feel he is a character that much like the Bat himself is hard to get wrong, The Batman notwithstanding. I think maniacal or bouncy it works.

    13) I’m very glad that Mike & Ian enjoyed the film and I’m sorry James did not.

I feel the film had a lot of great acting, eye candy (O'donnell and Kidman back in the day) , humor and just all around fun that is not in any other bat film. Nolan’s films may be masterpieces of the comic book genre and vastly superior films but not exactly well described as fun, I can’t wait for you all to tear Batman & Robin a new one. Thank you so much for this episode and this great mini-series!

  12. I'm just 20 minutes in to this month's podcast but I must say Ian's quip for the end of Des's voicemail made me have to pause the podcast because I was laughing for roughly 2 and a half minutes and am still chuckling about it.

  13. U mean your reviewing and possibly spoling this before it comes out and the most important person in the world can see it as it won't be out in the UK till October.

    Yes, I mean Stavros!

Did they do this with any other Pixar films than this and Ratatouille? It seems like an awful long North America to UK difference. I'd expect one month or two but five?!?!?! <_<

As for the show this week... I'm glad to see the old 'snipe hunt' wild goose chase shtick being used in a new film but am worried about A) people who were not in on the joke that there is no such thing will now be and B) that if someone mentions it they will automatically assume you are talking about or stole the idea from the film.

Mike, I personally doubt you'd like Cars that much if at all but I would say that Ratatouille is worth it for Peter O'Toole's monologue near the end of the film alone. Wall-E is a love or hate film in most cases so who knows....I think Jenny would like the romance between the two 'bots at least. :P

Charles's last name was Muntz, the bird's name was Kevin, and Carl is said to be 78 in the film...

I adore the film and defiantly agree with Mike that Ellie had miscarried but do not agree that the 3D is a must for the film. Nightmare Before Christmas (2005-7 releases), Bolt, Meet The Robinsons, Chicken Little, and the latest Ho-hum Dreamworks flick Monsters Vs. Aliens (Kung Fu Panda rocked but alot of the DWA stuff is pure mediocrity) all were released in 2D or 3 and only came to DVD and BD with a normal flat versions. I think although all the films I have seen in Digital 3D, other than monsters Vs. Aliens where it felt intrusive to the film, have felt wonderful with the extra depth they lose none of what really counts in them.

Oh and PIXAR has said they make movies not for kids or families or reviewers but for themselves. They make what they want to see. Although I think the Dog Fight with the real dogs was a bit much for the film I personally don't see it as a 'kid's' film nor most of the Pixar Cannon.

  14. I actually did manage to read RIP because my library bought it, but it confused the crap out of me.

Would reading Infinite Crisis/Final Crisis make me more or less confused by what's going on in the current Batman universe?

Well, not really. Final Crisis just shows you why everyone thinks he is dead if Bruce is or not other than that.... I'd say it's pretty much safe to ignore RIP and FC if your only into the Batman stuff.

  15. Metallo could prove to be interesting foe on Smallville but I'm sure season 9 MUST be the last season. If they prolong Clark ANOTHER year it will just be as silly as everyone makes the program out to be. Especially with all the things that have already happened to not-yet-Superman and that very little time is ever spent in the title location anymore..

Also I'm still a wee bit pissy about the whole fake Jimmy thing...as I think it was a major cop out and a way to take another great Character out of a show that is running low (But I will agree for story purposes Lionel's demise needed to happen). Despite ALL this I will continue to watch and to call myself a fan.
