grahamvidger Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 I don't know why I don't know this, so I searched the internet and got no good answers. Is 'gotten' a word? Or am I spelling it wrong or what? I often use it when I am talking, but not when I am writing or typing something. Quote
SuaveStar Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Well, it's a gray area. I say it's a slang term. "You could have got caught"-Original So it's not really a word, it's how you say the word that makes it sound like that. "You could have gotten caught"The way it's sounds when said. Quote

Koete Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids. Quote
Ava Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 According to Merriam-Webster.com, "gotten" is the past participle of "get." Quote
Dread Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 "Gotten" is similar to "been" in usage. "I've gotten sick three of the past four Christmas Holidays." "I've been sick three of the past four Christmas Holidays." Quote
