Episode 1000 suggestion thread

Recommended Posts

As of tomorrow, Earth-2.net: The Show will be 20 episodes away from 1000! And though some ideas have been kicked around, nothing is set in stone. That's where you come in: What ideas do you have for our 1000th episode?

Please note, we'd like to have as many contributors as possible, so very narrow topics (RE: a single movie) are likely to be ruled out.

Also be aware that episode 1000 will be our final episode of 2017, which means we will not be doing an Advent Calendar this year. But do not fret! Thanks to a wonderful suggestion by Will, we will be conducting a 12 Days of Earth-2.net: The Show this time around!

More on that later, though; this thread is all about 1000, so let's hear those suggestions.

Compiling a list of what has already been suggested:

  • Watchmen (original comic, movie, and Before Watchmen books)
  • Projects We've Been Putting Off/Dream Projects/Contributor Specials
  • Ghostbusters
  • Batman
  • Spider-Man
  • The Simpsons
  • South Park
  • Looney Tunes
  • Nintendo (though it's been suggested that we could do a Nintendo week next year to coincide with the Famicom's 35th anniversary release)
  • DC Comics (Akin to 750's Marvel show)
  • general WTF/Comics, Everybody!
  • movies/TV shows based on books
  • a tribute to a specific decade
  • Something akin to the Big Picture Show at the end of Black and White Week
  • The Fantastic Four
  • An Earth-2.net Carol (Segments/podcasts of Past, Present, and Future)
  • Earth-2.net Stew (segments with different hosts)

At this point, I'm cool with basically anything. Some ideas I feel have more steam than others but I feel like I can come up with segments for just about any of them.

Jigsaw. Just kidding.

Films of 2005? IE- the year of the first episode? War of the Worlds or Peter Jacksons King Kong seem simplest and lend themselves to comparisons with prior classic editions. Easy to build an episode around. Neither seems to have merited a review before.

Just as the future was the theme of the 10th anniversary, maybe Episode 1000 could be about alternate realities and have reviews of things like DC’s Elseworlds stories, Stranger Things, The Farnsworth Parabox, etc.

Oh yeahhh...I had an idea from approaching that in a segment a few years back. I'd throw my hat in to contribute, I've a few ideas for it

At this point, the topics I like the most are The Simpsons, 2005, and An Earth-2.net Carol (for completely selfish reasons there). I can come up with a segment for anything though.

I'd be happy to join in on an Earth-2.net: Christmas Carol (where one of the Wilsons needs to be Fezziwig or the Ghost of Earth-2 present) or for 2005 film reviews (esp. King Kong and/or Chronicles of Narnia) but my viewing experience of The Simpsons is way too scattershot for me to contribute.

How about interstitials where listeners can give elevator speeches about either how they came to Earth-2, their favorite episode, least favorite episode, or just what they would like to see in the next thousand episodes.

Where and how could they give their feedback?

Two more suggestions:

  • The movies, comics, TV shows, games, etc. that hooked us into the genres / mediums we now love. The things that made us say, "I want more of that, please."
  • Using the 2005 idea as a launching pad: Things that were released in the last 12 years that have yet to be covered on The Show.

Maybe talk about how the political climate affected the media we consumed (comics, movies, etc) and the pros/cons or better/worst versions of that? Might get dicey, just a thought.
