About Lex Luthor pardoning Metallo and blaming it on Superman and that stuff, well you could say that it makes no sense to pardon that guy, but I think he was more trying to get the false message across that the kryptonite asteroid is making Superman turn bad, and that false message even sort of gets Batman to believe it, even though he knows its not the asteroid and Superman's fault Metallo is dead, he may believe along with many other people in the world that Superman can turn into a bad guy from kryptonite.

As for Batman not being able to be controlled by Grodd or mind read, well there are two ways Batman could not be able to be mind read or controlled: 1, Batman does what he does in episode 2 "Terror on Dinosaur Island!" of Batman: The Brave And The Bold where he uses his Tibetan training to block telepaths, or 2, his cowl is made out of material that protects his brain from telepaths and just gives them static like in The Batman and Justice League: The New Frontier.

To defend Superman's remark about how he has already died before, well you could say that people might know what he is talking about from watching the Justice League TV series episode "Hereafter". Afterall, I am sure there are many people watching this that are more DC Animation fans than DC Comics fans. Also, people nowadays still know about Superman's death from the media reenacting it in other comic book adaptations and because it still is that memorable and popular of a Superman story. If a twelve year old boy is watching this and not understanding it, well, he shouldn't be, this is a PG-13 movie, that person is gonna have to watch this after cake when its their birthday party. :D

I know you guys don't understand why all those super villains know that Superman and Batman are there, but I am going to defend it. So basically they were tipped off by Luthor and this was right after Lex Luthor's announcement about the bounty, so the super hero squad might not have the warrant for Superman's arrest by then. That is one sticky situation to defend though. and for Luthor having the bounty and the super hero squad go after Superman, well you could say that he thinks his super hero squad might not be enough to stop Superman so he also has the bounty.

None of that makes sense.

01. Pardoning an assassin who's main target has always been the world's greatest superhero / peacekeeper would ruin a President.

02. The idea that Superman might turn evil / lose his mind due to kryptonite exposure is an interesting one, but it wasn't played up enough to work. And even if he did kill Metallo -- due to the incoming kryptonite or not -- so what? The man killed countless people in his quest to destroy Superman; taking him out of the game, so to speak, would save many lives.

03. That Batman bought into it for even a second is bullshit. Again, these two were written as if they've never met before, yet are also best friends. It can't go both ways.

Mike- I'd argue the funeral nod..... because what I took from it was to mean the funeral from Justice League Hereafter.

Even though I know that isn't the reference and the 1992 funeral is.... that was the first thing I thought about and laughed at it.

BTW, it would of have been cool if you commented on the Special Features for the second disc in the Two-Disc Special Edition.

Two things about that. First, we weren't reviewing the DVD, but rather the movie. Second, we've already reviewed the two cartoons on the second disc.

Though you took it that way, as you noted, that's not the case. Sure, it made you think about the time you remember Superman "dying," but even still, not everyone who's seen Public Enemies has seen Hereafter. So I remain firm in my stance.

I wasn't saying that you were wrong in your opinion, just saying that others who might not remember the death in comics could have equated it to that JL episode.

As far as reviewing the movie vs the DVD... I find it funny you phrase your reply that way. Because you had time to point out the art on the back, but not the actual special features... besides the cartoons that were already reviewed. It's your show though so hey whatever you feel like doing. I would have enjoyed hearing thoughts on The Dinner with DCU and Kevin Conroy feature though.

You're comparing glancing at a box and making a 30-60 second joke to spending who knows how long watching and discussing special features? Apples and oranges.

As for my time: I watched the movie twice in preparation for the show, so that's over two hours gone. James and I recorded for over two hours. I then spent at least five hours editing the show. And another hour making the banners, writing the copy, and uploading the files. That's at least 10 hours dedicated to this one two-hour episode of Earth-2.net: The Show. So, yes, if I want to make the movie the focus because that's what I see as most important, and to lessen the amount of time I spend with the episode, then that's what I'm going to do.

If you put the designs for Major Force and Captain Atom side by side they are actually quite distinct. There are no two identical features on the designs, they are all deliberately different. You could even tell that it was Major Force who showed up in shadow because his haircut is totally different to Atom.

Besides the haircut, in silhouette they're the same.

If you check the initial confrontation scene where Atom and Force are side-by-side you'll spot the differences. Atom's got this crazy tiny waist that Force doesn't have, and his arms and traps are larger. I immediately recognised Force in silhouette by his outline.

Now I'm paying for too much attention to the male physiques in this. Hey, um, how about Power Girl's boobs? Am I right! Wowza! Who am I kidding, if you look at half the character in this thing during freeze frame they look terrible, especially low budget anime Power Girl. This is a really bad art style to animate, even some of the fights are rendered lifeless just because of the the roided up character models. The smoother DCAU models are so much more dynamic. Even in these animated films you can tell that simple designs yield better results. That's why Wonder Woman has the best action scenes in any of these, the character designs were straightforward without being overly simple.

There might be slight differences between the two figures, Stavros, though I didn't see them. But I agree with you when you say there are a lot of flaws, especially with the woman. Starfire and Killer Frost were so terrible!

Now, what am I looking at....

GAH!

Anyway, really glad I didn't buy this film, as it really wasn't as good as I was hoping and it felt so short, and shit, the meteor sub plot could have just been ignored, or Superman faced it at the start, and that could've been the set up, Lex was looking for, giving him unlimited kryptonite.

James, the comics have gone so far downhill, their now just Superman and Batman VS something supernatural and big scale, when all you really want to read is a fun team up book, with them facing the Joker who's in Metropolis for some reason. They've got so bad, the current plan is for them to just be team ups during events like Zero Hour, or the aftermath of that.

Also, I always thought he died in 1993, also, it could also be called in Superman "The late Mr Kent" but yeah, it was refencing his comic death, it was a weird line to put in, maybe they should have just sad Superman smile or something.

Most of the characters looked awful to me, also Deadshot could've been fighting superman , hoping to die. Captain Cold looked and sounded shit.

Anyway, thought it was mediocre, so now am going to go down the list of DCAU films:

Superman Doomsday: Mediocre, but their first outing.

JL: New frontier: Awesome

Batman: Gotham Knight: Had it's moments, still not that great.

Wonder Woman: From what I saw good.

Green Lantern: Had it's moments, not awesome.

This: Mediocre.

JL: Crisis on two earths: James Woods is fucking Owlman! How can it be shit

Excellent episode guys! I wasn't going to see this movie but I enjoyed your review so much I stopped the podcast and checked out the film so I'd be able to follow along. Thanks a lot. The movie was a lot of fun. Utterly ludicrous, but fun.

I have to disagree with you in one instance though.

c-list villains

Whoah there. Black Manta is A-list. He's a baby killing, partnership ending, status quo changing, civil rights movement co-opting evil underwater Batman. :)

All kidding aside, sending an army of super villains to kill Supes and Bats makes a certain amount of sense. the super hero squad might be more inclined to hear Superman out and switch sides (as indeed they did.) Greedy super villains would just attack. From Luthor's perspective the bad guys would be more controllable, and therefore the better choice.

Re: Shazam! IIRC his costume is magically generated but it's still cloth. He has skin underneath it and he can take it off. As to whether he and Billy are two individual minds, it depends on the writer. Sometimes Cap is just Billy's mind in a grown up's body, sometimes he's a separate personality. But in both cases he and Billy share each other's memories. Also I think Billy would fake out Batman. He may be a little kid with a fairly black and white view of the world but he also spent a sizable chunk of his life struggling to survive on the streets. He's not above using a little subterfuge every now and then.

Alfred, unlike Bruce has no problems with guns. He has defended himself and Wayne Manor with guns on multiple occasions in the comics.

In fact, I was really happy seeing Alfred with the shotgun, because so many people forget he's not afraid to cap someone.

His son / employer hates guns with a fiery passion, so it doesn't quite line up with what we know about Bruce. That he'd let his father figure use a gun does seem a touch odd. However, as noted on the show, I don't take issue with it, but I can see why some people might.

I think the key phrase there might be "let his father figure"...

I love the idea of Luthor in clips like Hitler's speeches - that would have been a very strong image.

Couple things - as to Superman's funeral, at the time, it was a major news event - plus, this group of guys have covered it twice in the past 6 years. "Hereafter" in 2003 and "Superman: Doomsday" (in this family of movies) in 2006. I think they could argue that this has been brought up enough recently to justify the inclusion.

Grodd's mental power is 'force of mind" most of the time, it's portrayed more as the ability to control & influence. He seems to be more of a projecting telepath than a receiving one.

I don't know about Captain Marvel taking off his costume, but I know he's manifested as Captain Marvel's body in civilian clothes in the past.

As to Batman smashing the computer...Mike. Really. You run a website, and you're not familiar with networked computers? How about off-site backup? The files were probably on a mainframe accessed via the computer in the room where they confronted Luthor. Since that computer was executing the "delete" command, disconnecting it may have preserved the original files, allowing them to be accessed from another computer.

My biggest problem with Power Girl was that she wasn't written as Power Girl. She was written as Supergirl. Too nice. Where's that tough girl edge?

As to Waller's design, the only thing that comes to mind, looking in silhouette, is, "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?"

Hey guys, long time no see.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode and couldn't help laughing the whole way through.

After watching this movie, I'm wondering if anyone else had a similar reaction to a few things:

1. Batman and Superman had a touchy-feely relationship. The Krytonite bullet in the heart, Batman carrying Superman in the sewers, Batman fainting and Superman carrying Batman, the constant banter...Bromance to the max.

2. The martial arts moves Batman whipped out against lady Shiva were pretty sick. I wished that scene was longer. There's also another moment where Bats jumps in the air while turning and throwing batarangs. That was like a scene straight out of a Jet Li movie.

3. Lex acting all psycho on juice and coming onto Amanda Waller felt like the writer's way of trying to prove they're really twisted. I got the same feeling when I saw Drag-queen Hades (who looks more like Bacchus btw) in Wonder Woman. I think I like Doomsday's cold-blooded-quiet-sinister Lex more.

4. I know I'm not the only one who noticed Powergirl's "assets." With her huge eyes and innocent demeanor and ultra-endowed bod, she looked like a Japanese porn character (or so I imagine)

5. G: Grundy not feel so good. B: Grundy's gonna feel a lot worse! SMASH. AWESOME.

Mike, I too wondered where Batman went after the big explosion. My sister and I looked at each other and went "Where did Batman go?". Then we stopped asking questions because it took the enjoyment out of the pretty movie. We also accepted the fact that Batman can "beat Jesus and is richer than God."
