Area Man Has Far Greater Knowledge Of Marvel Universe Than Own Family Tree

LA CROSSE, WI—Returning to his hometown to attend a cousin's wedding Saturday, Josh Sundling, 29, reportedly demonstrated on numerous occasions a vast, far more intricate understanding of the fictional Marvel Comics Universe than of his own family's genealogy.

Sundling, who cannot identify his ancestral homeland or the meaning of his surname, possesses extensive knowledge of the creation of superhero teams, the history of imaginary alien races, and the special powers of countless characters.

"We're from Sweden or Norway or somewhere around there," said Sundling, who when prompted can accurately detail the origins of each cartoon member of the X-Men, the Avengers, the Defenders, and the Squadron Supreme. "I don't know for sure. I never really asked about it."

Though Sundling reportedly reread several issues of Moon Knight recently and found himself enjoying the subplot of the hero's romantic involvement with Tigra, it is believed he did not realize his cousin was dating anyone until he received an invitation to the wedding.

"I guess Andy had been engaged for a while," Sundling said of his cousin Tom, whom he has met on 26 separate occasions and once spent two weeks with at summer camp but routinely confuses with other relatives. "One of my aunts was telling me about it. Whichever one used to have the long dark hair and kind of looked like former Alpha Flight member Diamond Lil."

"She cut it, though, and now it's white and curly," Sundling added. "Kind of looks like Daily Bugle editor in chief Joe Robertson's haircut. Especially if you look at those old issues from the '70s, back when Ross Andru was drawing him."

According to family sources, not only is Sundling not familiar with his family's heritage and history, but the 29-year-old also appears more emotionally attached to the fictional characters in his comic books than to many of his blood relatives.

"Josh has always loved those cartoons," said uncle Donald Grier, whom Sundling believes to be one of his father's friends from college. "I remember one time he cried after reading about Captain America, because the Captain's little helper guy had died."

"It was weird because I'd never seen him cry before," Grier said. "Not even at Papa's funeral.

Though Sundling is unaware that his grandmother was the first female valedictorian at La Crosse Central High, or that ancestors on his mother's side narrowly escaped famine by fleeing across the Atlantic with nothing but the clothes on their backs, he has been known to confidently discuss the histories of the Skrull, Kree, and Shi'ar civilizations. Sundling also has a working knowledge of Jean Grey's complex family tree, which contains multiple clones and characters from other realities.

Sources confirmed that Sundling does not know his grandmother's maiden name.

"It's so fascinating that Jean Grey and Cyclops had a child from an alternate future who ends up marrying Franklin Richards, who is the son of Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman," said the man who did not recognize his own nephew at the wedding. "And then their kid, Hyperstorm, travels back in time and attacks the Fantastic Four."

"I've always been drawn to superhero pedigrees and how they pass traits down from one generation to the next," said Sundling, completely unaware that colon cancer runs in his family. "It'd just be cool to have something rare in common with your relatives."terminator.gif

  2. I posted something here that was not very nice, very innapropriate, juvinille, and i retract that statement.

Been there, done that. I've done it more times than probably everyone else on this forum, combined. So don't worry about it.

I got asked for the second time in my adult education life today, if I was dyslexic.

For the first time in my life, I'm starting to wonder, and worry, that I am. I'm 24, and made it through all of primary, and secondary school, without anyone asking any questions, and several parts of higher education. It's just bothering me, that I've made it so far in my life, and am only know finding out that I may have a problem.

I was 26 when I learned something about myself(which I won't discuss in public), and while it did seem like a problem at first, it was somewhat liberating and enlightening when I realized what it was.

  3. Just lost my girlfriend. Long distance doesn't work, you shouldn't try it. I feel like punching some one really hard, in the face. Fuck emotional instability, Fuck people, and fuck you ex. I'm done fighting, and I'm done fighting for you.

Sorry to hear. That happened to me last year, and believe me, it didn't end well.

  4. What should not be up for debate is that the grad assistant who witnessed Sandusky horribly abusing a child, and DID NOT STOP THE MAN OR CALL THE POLICE is going to be on the sidelines on Saturday is a travesty.

He can't be fired because of the whistle blowers law. He reported it, so he did what he is legally obligated to do. Morally, he's a dick for not pressing it further, but he's untouchable legally and his job is safe.

It still makes me sick that he won't be touched over this. I can say with a fair degree of certainty that, had I witnessed what McQueary did, calling dad on the phone would have been far down the list on approrpriate responses.

  5. Okay. What's been coming out of Penn State w/r/t Sandusky and Paterno et al has been pretty awful. (So has the fact that Penn State students decided to riot over Paterno being fired, but that's something else entirely.) But now there's new stuff coming out, and if it's true, then dear god. Using a program for underpriviledged kids as a pimping source for rich donors is just... I don't have words for it. Really hoping this is just a rumor, but if it isn't? Wow.

    http://www.nesn.com/...ark-madden.html

I don't condone rioting for any reason, but I can at least understand why they might want to express their support for a beloved coach.. Paterno is a person who many of them looked up to. How he should have been dealt with is a matter for honest debate. What should not be up for debate is that the grad assistant who witnessed Sandusky horribly abusing a child, and DID NOT STOP THE MAN OR CALL THE POLICE is going to be on the sidelines on Saturday is a travesty. There is NO reason for Paterno to be fired and yet this person still be on the payroll of Penn State. He didn't stop Sandusky. He didn't call the police. He called his father. I fully understand why people agree with Paterno's firing, but this assistant should be hung from the highest tree for his far more inadequate response, which sadly he is not.

If the further rumor is true, it shows the depth of Sandusky's depravity, and that there needs to be more transparency in the actions of boosters and donors at universities everywhere.

  6. From 2001-2004 I taught creative writing on the college level, and one my students told me pointblank that his MO was to take a class, fail it, then take it again to look smart for the girls. You know why he could do this? Rich parents. It pissed me off to no end.

The problem with colleges would take too long to explain. Besides, I'd need to save that for the vent thread. Suffice to say, a lot of it sucks.

  7. There are few things more satisfying than a person getting busted for giving someone else the shaft. Three years ago, my old boss was fired for reasons that I wasn't given. Then a week later, I was given half a week's pay out of nowhere. It turned out he'd held back my overtime pay for the previous six months.

It's a sweet feeling to see people like that get what they deserve.

This is why I always keep track of my hours worked. I tend to not trust others with my money.

I have ever since that experience. Just yesterday I called my boss because my paycheck was too small.
