  1. ... sorry I got carried away with the helmet making me think of a Wolverine knockoff. You are right about the anatomy and I realized that Batroc is able to smile rather than just give an angst ridden scowl.
  2. My sister wanted to see Breakfast at Tiffany's because Angela from Bones said that it was The Godfather for women. She saw it and decided right away that she hated the movie. I think all the hype gave her too high of expectations and she was dissapointed.
  3. I guess academy award nominated productions get more popularity than turkey winners.
  4. Wow! For a moment I thought he was the greatest 90's Image hero.
  5. I take it that intentionally funny villains don't count. I just started reading Steam Detectives and the series had the Machine Baron, who is the steampunk equivalent of Wylie E. Coyote. However his story came after a darker episode, so he was the comedy relief to give the reader and the author a break. Much like how Scott McCloud used the Devos after a dark issue of Zot.
  6. On the subject of musical reboot, I wish that the sailor scouts had Gustav Holst planets as their background music.
  7. When I listened to it again. I remembered hearing that people were not afraid of martian invasions. The majority who panicked thought it was an attack from the Nazis. It sounds silly now but I remember in 2001 being afraid. How many people hesitated to go to the mall that halloween? When George Bush announced that America was going to war with Iraq, my aunt who was living with us at the time, suggested we should go through bomb drills. I remember being very upset at that idea, partially because we lived in the new development and it barely holds up against rain. But the idea of being attacked again was the biggest part that shook me up. Suddenly their fear does not seem so far fetched.
  8. No problem, I was curious to whether you would mention the radio broadcast or not. Radiolab did an episode about the radio broadcast which helped me understand why it happened. http://www.radiolab.org/2008/mar/24/ There are so many incarnations of the story I often forget it is a victorian fantasy. I guess that is why my favorites include the version told by Alan More in "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and the book by Manly Wade Wellman where the discovery is made with the help of Sherlock Holmes and Watson.
  9. At my college hangout I heard the best and most raunchy review for "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World." "A couple could have sex in the middle of the theatre and, nobody would have noticed because the movie was that good."
  10. Sorry, I should have cleared up that I am Rick. I can see that that the young lady avatar of, Nausicaa, makes things confusing.
  11. Thank you, that was a great episode!
  12. Is there a thread on here where people can pitch stories in the hopes of getting feedback? Because I wanted to share my ideas for how a "return of the master" story would be like.
  13. Once, in an Italian restaurant, I asked my sister in law (a film student) what was her favorite Fellini movie. She told me she had no idea who Fellini was. I was astonished. A couple of weeks later I e-mailed her the Fountain scene from "La Dolce Vita" and she had to admit that this guys movies looked good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKN1T3K1idg
  14. During my junior year I had to make an all original Museum Gallery. I decided to do a gallery on Horror hosts. Svengoolie (mostly because of Son of Svengoolie) was really fun to research. One of the sources of information that I used was the documentary "American Scary." Where the original Svengoolie was interviewed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Emy1iWIrSTA I could not find the section I wanted, but in one segment he says he had interviewed Presidents, Kings and all of the Beatles but did not have as much fun as he did when he was Svengoolie.
  15. No, I do not remember, the clerk told me that he only saw Svengoolie. Now, I really want to visit Berwyn.
  16. My second job was at a toy store, one of the coworkers was a lovely young lady who I was completely smitten with. Whenever she had the chance she would wear a Nightmare Before Christmas Sweater with Jack and Sally dancing. In my feeble attempts to bring up conversation she would often talk about early Tim Burton like Edward Scissorhands and Nightmare. Now every time I see those movies I feel a bittersweet surge go through me.
  17. Whenever I go to visit Chicago my first order of business is to find someone who knows about Svengoolie. The closest I ever got was a comic book store where the clerk said "Berwyn."
  18. The Scrivens would be a great name for a hockey team! I knew that James, Mike and Ian covered the Burton and Schumaker movies. I did not know that the Adam West movie was covered. Could someone tell me which episode covers Mask of the Phantasm?
  19. Welcome D! I will have to check out the Futurological congress! I heard Michael Drout talk about how SF is a very English genre and mentioned how Lem is one of the few exceptions. I checked out the "Cyberiad" expecting to get a lot of Communist Propaganda, and was surprised at how different it was. With all its dark humor and absurd ideas, it seemed like something you would find on Adult Swim rather than in a manifesto.
  20. It hasn't been forever but I still love Damien for making a MST3K reference.
  21. Pirates Of The Caribbean 9: Johnny Depp meets Tim Curry on Muppet Treasure Island.
  22. I actually like the song over the rap. I remember in an interview with Eiichiro Oda, the interview asked why he drew them so rubbery and he answered that he wanted the reader to not get too worked up about the story. I think that was interesting. The 4kids dubbing used to make me laugh. I did not notice the whitinening of the minstrel character, but laughed whenever the pirates talked about drinking fruit juice and passing out from indigestion. I caught an episode on vacation and showed it to my second cousin once. I felt a personal victory when the next evening he asked me whether "that pirate show" was on. Since you did not jump on the bandwagon and bash the company anime fans love to hate, I would love to see more dub comparisons.
  23. I wonder if Neville Sinclair was borrowing the dresses from Captain Shakespeare. Pleasant nightmares Mike!
