  1. The script was a "fuck you" to any semblance of storytelling. But not in a good way. I have since dropped Avengers and will scrutinize heavily before I ever buy one of his books.

PS If it was a jab at DC it came across as nothing more than a slight against Marvel for publishing that garbage when there's a million people waiting to tell stories monumentally better than that travesty. Plus! The fact that he needed help to meet deadline on HIS FINAL ISSUE calls into question both his capability as a writer and his professionalism.

    Done.

  2. Suprised you guys missed the Miss Marvel picture in 38 of her from the front with a very clear view of between her legs, naughty naughty DC :P

At this point it's almost like mentioning the book is 22 pages long and is stapled along the spine...

  3. Disappointing to hear that DC drops the ball more often than it runs with it (ie/ the Amazon attacks thingamy that Des called).

    Thanks for listening Ian!

Yeah DC drops the ball but I quite like the GG/Athena thing. It just so happened I'm brilliant enough to pick up on it. ;)

Now if only we can see it in the pages of Countdown...

  4. I don't think you're right about 'Mask of the Phantasm'. Paul Dini was responsible for the third act, but Joker was present throughout the entire movie, and without the Joker there really wouldn't have been much of a story. I think Alan Burnett, who was really in charge of the story (at least to my recollection) had pushed Joker from the beginning, and assigned Paul to write all the Joker's appearances.

Not what the story editor says.

  5. I hate to break it to you fellas, but the reason Joker is done so poorly and so often in TAS is Dini's fault.

An interview with story editor Marty Pasko reveals that Dini was always pushing for Joker to be put in episodes. In fact, the only reason he appears in Mask of the Phantasm is because Dini was entirely responsible for the third act.

  6. There's a very interesting backup story combining the first meeting of Hulk and Wolverine with its Ultimate counterpart...just saying.

Yeah, you're right, two issues in and the run stinks. I got it discounted when I was really just buying the EC cover for 55.

  7. I'm surprised that Superman would hand him to Batman. I don't read much DC but I was always under the impression that he was quite a stickler for rules, and you know human rights. Handing over someone to be tortured is just as bad as doing it yourself.

How often do you think Batman has to torture someone? I think it's the prospect of torture more than the torture itself...

  8. A couple of years back I seriously thought they were going to reveal that there was actually more than one Wolverine. I counted the books he was in on the shelf and then when I read his own book and New Avengers there appeared to be obscure clues.

    Have you read Wolverine #51?

  9. Ok...I'm in. This will mark the first time I've ever bought an issue of Nightwing and the first time I've bought an issue of Robin since Knightfall, if there even was a Robin series then...

  10. Have they ever actually done a storyline where Wolverine is really knackered and loses his edge after working for so many teams at once?

You hear that Marvel? I'm your man.

Panel 1. A view from above. Luke Cage and Wolverine sit on a short cement wall dividing the sidewalk and a park. There are ninjas in various states of unconsciousness and death littered on the ground. Pools of blood and sharp pointy weapons a plenty, Luke has his arm around Wolvie.

LUKE: C'MON, MAN! YOU'RE DOING THE BEST YOU CAN...

Panel 2. The view has leveled off and tightened in on the characters' faces. Cage looks worried and Wolverine is hunched over with tears streaming down his face. They are both splattered with ninja blood.

WOLVERINE: IT'S JUST NOT ENOUGH ANYMORE. I USED TO BE THE BEST AT WHAT I DO AND NOW RONIN KILLS MORE NINJAS THAN ME. RONIN!

Panel 3. Same shot. Cage looks hopeful. Wolvie still cries.

LUKE: YOU KNOW CLINT LOOKS UP TO YOU. NOW THAT HE USES SWORDS HE'S ALL "YOU KNOW LOGAN'S A SAMURAI RIGHT? I WANT TO BE A SAMURAI TOO!" YOU'RE LIKE A ROLE MODEL TO HIM, NOW.

WOLVERINE: I KNOW, IT'S JUST...YOU EVER FEEL LIKE YOU'RE BURNING THE CANDLE AT BOTH ENDS?

  11. In previous installments of Is It Wednesday Yet?, Des and Mike have pretty much seen eye to eye, this week all that changes. Which books couldn't they come to terms on? Well, here's the list to choose from: Cyblade Pilot Season #1, New Avengers #34, Nova #6, Parade (with Fireworks) #1 and Thor #3.

Is there an all of the above option?

  12. For my money, there's only one candidate:

    "Who loves ya, baby?!"

lol I saw him at a Dodgers game when I was a kid.

He was there to kill LaSorda...it took a few years but he figured it would be untraceable if he just fed him to death.
