  1. But to someone like me who, on principle, will NEVER buy a PS2, it's something to be optimistic about at least! As for the pics, they do look a bit like action figures, but then most of this is promotinal material - I doubt most of it will look quite like that in the finished game.

  2. You gotta respect SF, if only for the fact that it was Raul Julia's last film role and he was pretty much the only actor that did his character any justice.

My sister dragged me to see the second Tomb Raider (seriously, I'm not trying to protect my already low level of coolness) and it was a passable pop-corn flick which I forgot as soon as I left the cinema

God, the Mario movie! Did they ever fuck that up! At least the cast was respectable enough to make up for the writers destroying the Mario story.

I'll go for Mortal Kombat, because I just couldn't even try to be interested and did switch my TV off after 20 minutes.

I'm quite used to THQ letting me down when it comes to the WM series for the Gamecube, after No Mercy was the epitome of the N64 Wrestling game (argue all you want, but at the end of the day, it's true). WMX8, to put it simply, sucked - it was a step back from No Mercy in almost every way, save match types and entrances. Then THQ hyped up WMX9, and, after scrutinously reading through reviews, decided not to buy it (or even play it) when I heard about the storyline mode.

So am I, and all other Nintendo wrestling game fans, following a similar route with WWE: Day of Reckoning? Certainly there's a lot to dissuade such fears: Strong & Weak grapples are back, a la No Mercy, hopefully allowing more moves per wrestler, whilst having a submission system that focuses on body areas and a better reversal system.

The storyline system sounds like a cross between that of the Smackdown series and WM2000 on N64, and anything that features Velocity & Heat can't be bad!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that THQ have got it right this time. What do you all think?

  4. Kirby is nowhere as cheap as he used to be.

    THANK YOU.

He gets knocked around easier than almost ANYONE. If you have any skill at all (i.e., you can get his damage meter to 65%) you can kill him. I'm a Kirby mark/pro and I'll admit that without hesitation. He's a great survivalist, but he can be knocked out with relative ease.

Me & my brother have had some classic bouts as Link & Kirby respectively. As he's as good a gamer as I am, they were truly epic!

  5. You know, for all the apathy that Majora's Mask recieved from some people, it still holds the greatest Zelda tool ever: The Bunny Hood! Never again shall you walk slowly, oh ever-so slowly through the endless fields. You shall run through them like greased motherfucking lightening.

That is true. Majora's Mask was inferior but at least the concept was good, and the mask salesman is now one of my favourite Zelda characters ever!

  6. id have to agree with the claim that this game blows. i was this close (holds fingers super close) to getting the 64 versions source code tattooed on my ass, thats how much i love that game, then this bastardized version came out and i cried. so what if there's 4000000 things to unlock, so what if there's 3 dozen characters! they set the speed on 'hyper active', made the levels waaaaaaaay too small (except hyrule which is so freakin big that i cant see my dude unless im 2 inches away from the screne), made throws impossible, and most of all NESS SUCKS IN THE NEW ONE! WHY GOD WHY?!?!

but, in its defense, i will challenge any of you with Game and Watch (im not saying id win but id challenge you)

Eh? Firstly, Ness is exactly the same as he was in the N64 version. Yes the levels are a bit smaller but it makes for more intense play so that people can't run away like the pussies they are when under heavy fire - my brother did that all the time in the Great Fox level on the N64.

It's an upgrade but the positives of the GC version far outweigh the little things that stop it being the console's best game.

  7. Illusion of Time/Gaia for the SNES. I never really played non-Zelda RPGs but this one was fantastic, often frustrating with a very emotional storyline about life in ancient times. The ending was a bit of a cop-out but otherwise classic.

  8. Now I'm not a n00b, as I've been playing Zelda since the first game was released on the NES, and I find WW to be the superior game to OoT. So there. :P

Meh, it's your opinion. In my belief, I think if someone played WW then OOT, they find OOT lacking in graphical quality but more playable, with more to do, a better story and a lot less monotonous sailing. :P

  9. But this is yet between years one and three, so they needed a younger Batman. I agree Keaton's been the best, but he can't play a 25 year old Bruce Wayne.

Very true. The thing I hear the most complaints about with regards to the cast is that some of the main characters are played by non-American actors. Bale being Welsh and Murphy being Irish. IMO, I couldn't care less what the actor's nationality is as long as the character is believable.

  10. I'll try & use some logic here.

Superhero > villain, pretty much 85% of the time - more than 50% at least.

So Fisk could technically hire Superman or even Batman at a stretch whilst Luthor could hire DareDevil or Spiderman. The hired heros could then take out the rival's villains if duped into believing that they were doing it for some other purpose than being pawns in this kind of battle.

So I can see Luthor having perhaps more of an advantage if that was concerned, because even if Fisk approached Batman, I doubt that Bats would be either fooled or willing.

What am I talking about? I've no idea!

  11. Damn right, the true Rare staff wouldn't sell-out like that. I don't think that Rare made a bad game for the SNES/N64, though DK64 was basically Banjo with apes.

EDIT: To keep this post on-topic, that's why I sympathise with Xbox users for having a Rare-imitation developer. If you did get a Perfect Dark sequel, given the Xbox's capabilities it would probably kick all kinds of arse.

  12. Sigh... I finally went outside of the bounds of Nintendo and bought a PS2 a couple months ago.  I can't betray anything that gives me access to The Legend of Zelda as a favorite though!

I don't think I could ever do that. As much as it kills me not to be able to play Smackdown: HCTP and it's kick-ass career & match modes, I'm sticking by my guns.

I have Smackdown HCTP and Kingdom Hearts. Let it be known that Smackdown owns the Wrestlemania games and Kingdom Hearts might possibly own Wind Waker...

No-one's going to dispute Smackdown over Wrestlemania. Wouldn't know about Kingdom Hearts, but Wind Waker could've been better, certainly.
