  1. Thinking about what I would read next, I was debating on what to read next: New Universe or Milestone. Still leaning Milestone, but that made things a little closer.
  2. Star Trek: TNG - Forgiveness - Set in a time frame that I am not all too familiar with, but could roll with it. Felt like an episode. But the lettering was all weird and it took a while to adjust. Rocket Girl - Time travel is not really my bag. Not bad and easy enough to follow, but none of the questions raised were ever answered. That is poor writing for a mini. Naja - It looked nice. Solid to good story until the last issue info dump of a climax. And the lettering. I'm sure in print it would have been fine, but on my tablet it was almost impossible to read. Comics: 403 Digital First Comics: 65 Graphic Novels: 24 Trades: 143 (771)(4)(144)
  3. I remember really liking the Cloak & Dagger parts and not caring for the Dr. Strange portion. Then again, I was 10 and C&D were the greatest thing ever.
  4. I think it would work better as a TV show. With so many time jumps in the comics, you have lots of room to tell new stories while having tent pole events along the way. And it better not have a CG monkey.
  5. I see 'Legion series' and I think 'of Super-Heroes' not 'X-Character'.
  6. How long do I have to wait until I can yell at someone for having a cough? I'll concede that it is not necessarily something one can control, but a cough is something they make pills & syrups for. I'm sure the internet has a bunch of old fashioned home remedies if modern medicine is not your bag. But for the love of all that is, do something. Note: This is day 15 of this shit.
  7. This is why D2: The Mighty Ducks is such a better film. It took the annoying kids and replaced them with better ones (and Kenan). Also, Wolf Stansson.
  8. Y: The Last Man - I loved this. Only two little quibbles (the kinda-sorta explanation and parts of the ending), but that is mostly nitpicking. Comics: 393 Digital First Comics: 65 Graphic Novels: 23 Trades: 142 (766)(4)(144)
  9. Been trying to play DVDs on my laptop. Every time WMP gives me a "Unable to turn on analog copy protection on the output display. Try installing an updated driver for your video card" message. Video card is up to date. Google has been less than helpful. Every DVD I tried will play using VLC, but it looks like refried ass. Solutions?

    Your Top 20 Albums

    1) Crest of a Knave - Jethro Tull 2) Purple Rain - Prince 3) A New South - Hank Williams Jr. 4) Come Away With Me - Norah Jones 5) Moon Safari - Air 6) Mad Brilliant - Ghost of the Robot 7) White Stripes - White Stripes 8) Antichrist Superstar - Marilyn Manson 9) Under Blackpool Lights - White Stripes 10) Danzig - Danzig 11) Best of - Mississippi John Hurt 12) Lightnin' - Lightnin Hopkins 13) King of Yesterday - Jude 14) Toys in the Attic - Aerosmith 15) Hallowed Ground - Violent Femmes 16) Jonathan Edwards 17) Feels So Good - Chuck Mangione 18) MTV Unplugged - Nirvana 19) Heaven and Hell - Shine 20) Spit - Kittie Let's see. Four years later and 13/20 are the same. Looking at the changes, I swapped Buckethead for a Buckethead project (Shine). I hadn't gotten into The White Stripes yet, which is 2 additions. System of a Down became Kittie, which is kinda an either/or thing. I discovered Danzig at some point it seems. I somehow forgot Moon Safari off the original list which is crazy. Last one was Violent Femmes' Hallowed Ground. I made a 'Greatest Hits' way back in high school and just kinda listened to it as such. Recently, I found out that the entirety of Hallowed Ground was on the Greatest Hits. And for good reason, such a good album.
  11. I've always thought they were downright awful and I am usually a fan of Sienkiewicz. I had the Web & Spectacular issues forever and that Spectacular might be one of my least favorite covers ever. That said, if he would have done the interiors, it would have been an improvement.
  12. The Calamari Wrestler - A Japanese movie about a pro wrestling. And a giant calamari. Should be fun. And it is, for a while. Going off the sports movie genre, the big match happens about 40 minutes into a 90 minute movie. The back half was entirely unneeded. The acting was bad, but when your leads are low level wrestlers and a calamari that tends to be the case. Really felt like Kaiju Big Battel as well. Do love me some Kaiju Big Battel. 12 Rounds 3: Lockdown - How do you follow up a bad movie starring Japanese wrestlers? A bad movie starring an American wrestler of course. My first foray into the land of bad direct to DVD movies that is WWE Studios. I knew what I was getting into. The movie wants to be Die Hard, but is oh so boring and stupid. And felt so very long. I am terrible at choosing movies.
  13. Spider-Man: Life In The Mad Dog Ward - Two different 3 issue arcs collected. First is the Spider-Title crossover from the late 80s. Spider-Man is captured and locked up in an evil mental ward. What amazes me is that this was the immediate follow up to the Kraven's Last Hunt crossover. Seems like they may have done something a little more lighthearted and fun. The Spidey titles were so unrelated to each other at the time that I don't know why this was chosen to join them together, specially right after KLH. The second story is from Spider-Man. The original story is bad, so I don't know why we needed a follow up on it. Comics: 393 Digital First Comics: 65 Graphic Novels: 23 Trades: 132 (706)(4)(144)
  14. I was huge into the Monkees during one summer break during high school. I found out that they made a movie and HAD to watch it. I think I made in 20 minutes in and turned it off. I wanted a long TV episodes and I had (and still have) no idea what that movie was.
  15. In my continuing efforts to re-watch every show I watched as a kid, I just finished Fox's 2003 show Keen Eddie. A cop show that is predictable, but with a charm and quirkiness that pulls it along. Only 13 episodes aired (massively out of order), yet I could tell you how the next five seasons would have played out.
  16. 5 Days to Die - A revenge story with a twist that makes it not all that interesting. Deadpool Kills Deadpool - Bad. So bad. Comics: 393 Digital First Comics: 65 Graphic Novels: 23 Trades: 131 (700)(4)(144)
  17. Freelancers - I'll admit, I saw the cover for the first issue and read based on that. Really misleading. I figured a bounty hunter/assassin story. I got a kung-fu sensei revenge story. And a below average one at that. Mercy Thompson: Hopcross Jilly - About three pages in I could tell two things: 1) this was based on a book series and 2) this was not the first story. And I will give this book credit, I never felt that I was missing out based on those things. Sadly, it didn't help. This was boring. So boring. Six issues to tell what amounts to an episode of *Insert Crime Procedural*. Comics: 388 Digital First Comics: 65 Graphic Novels: 23 Trades: 130 (696)(4)(144)
  18. Who likes sprinkled donuts anyways? They are always the last ones left in the box. Everyone opens the box wanting a donut, see sprinkles, lets out a crushing sigh and then gets something from the vending machine.
  19. I took a quick look and Snuka is still listed as a HOFer on the website. I see them quietly removing him from there in the next week. The Hogan thing was a quicker reaction due to him being featured on TV each week when the news broke. I cannot remember the last time we saw Snuka.
  20. John Wick - Now that was a fine film right there.
  21. Brandi Bare - To quote Des, not very good. Sister Armageddon (Vol. 2) - Only two issues long and clearly only a Vol 2 due to publisher change. Think this would have been better had I had these when I read Vol 1. Moon Girl - Interesting idea, no so good story and bad art. I can tell it is good art, but everything is so damn dark that it makes no difference. Shame. Phantom Lady and Doll Man - An uninteresting origin story that I've read so many times. And an ending that doesn't make any sense for a very causal DC reader. Catching up on Batman '66 - Still a fun little book. Comics: 376 Digital First Comics: 65 Graphic Novels: 23 Trades: 130 (696)(4)(144)
  22. True Lies - I know that I have watched this before, and I remembered surprisingly a lot. What struck me on this viewing is the length. The middle 40 minutes (which focus on Curtis) are rather disjointed from the plot. Kinda felt like I started the movie, flipped to the tv and watched an episode of something while making dinner and then finished the movie. Still, it was entertaining. And man, I'm in love with Tia Carrere.

    Randomness

Today ends my 370 days without caffeine. I went with a Mexican Coke. Now I wait to see if my body decides this was a bad idea.
  24. Get Jiro - Kinda dull. Going by nothing other than the cover and the blurb on the back, I expected a lot more action. So, yeah, too much talking. And I did notice until now that this was written by Anthony Bourdain. Random. Slow News Day - A run of the mill, completely average RomCom, but in a comic book. Incognegro - This was okay. Story went pretty much how a expected, with a couple of nice surprise twists added in for good measure. Yet this thing completely falls apart with the art. With a story about race, skin color and the main character's ability to pass for white, being in color would have been helpful. I just don't get the point of being B&W. It is halfway thru the book and I have no idea if the 2nd main character is black or white. The Kite Runner - Feels like it is missing chapters 4-8. Also feels autobiographical, which I seem to not be a fan of. Hit List - Not very good. Comics: 361 Digital First Comics: 59 Graphic Novels: 23 Trades: 130 (696)(4)(144)
  25. Hearing your summary of A Single Samurai, it sounds like a really interesting idea. Sad that it seems like it wasn't idealized to its fullest potential.
