  1. Slowly going thru my comic collection and I noticed something I do not understand. Why, in the late 90s, did Marvel do variant covers for a bunch of second issues? I get that variant covers are a things and are driven by money. Just why a bunch of #2's and not #1's? That just confuses me.
  2. The build for the Rumble has been sub-par. And the likely Cena win (or not, because it is too obvious. SWERVE~!) just kinda makes the hype meh. Granted, I always love the Rumble match itself live. More from the levels of detail they put into these things than anything else.

On a complete 'why not' moment, I stopped at the local travel agency to see what a Super Bowl travel package would cost. I went for a simple, no frills package. Plane tickets, game tickets and one night hotel. No pre or post game party tickets. No meal vouchers. No rental car. My total for a shit hotel. Nosebleed seats. $10,000. And yet my friends don't understand why I would sell any Super Bowl tickets, if I were to ever happen upon some.
  4. Off the top of my head, Nexus Punk vs. Mysterio at Capital Punishment was a better match. I just hate the long 'injury' break in the match. Match only went 13ish minutes, and at least three were Rey being dead after tackling the barber chair. Hair matches always seem rushed as the match time is cut to make time for the hair cutting
  5. Peaceful Warrior - Way too 'bad Karate Kid' for me. The double-speaking wise old man is annoying. The ending either went completely over my head or is just as lame and unoriginal as I think it is. AND the fact that it ends in what amounts to a montage. This is based off a book, or off the movie that was based off a book that was semi-autobiographical of the author? Either way, fuck this book. Graphic Novels - 4 Trades - 7 (32)
  6. Finished the match portion of the Punk DVD. I still question the match selection. Not the lack of indy stuff, but more the random matches. The Extreme Rules Jericho match was better than their Mania match. Mysterio and Punk have had better matches than the hair match. Do the same people, but the better match in the series. Also, the crowd is great to watch in the final three matches. Insane for the MITB title match, largely silent (or open air stadium problems) for Mania, and then very hot for Punk/Bryan. Makes the Jericho match seem less important. Onto the Dusty Rhodes set next, if you will.

Good lord. That is about the most tense I have been for a football game in a while. I couldn't sit still after the Niners scored the go ahead touchdown. I just knew that Atlanta was going to march down the field. Just like they did to end the first half. White/Jones/Gonzo are just beastly. I'll freely admit I have no idea how that was not PI on the 4th down play. Bowman was practically hugging White the entire play. But it wasn't called and I don't give a shit. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
  8. It's not. As for USM, I have read the next two trades (The World According to Peter Parker & Chameleons) and think it heads back to USM proper. I treated Ultimatum like every other crossover event: pointless and relatively unimportant.
  9. The Clique - Requested this from the library without paying much attention to the details. Apparently, this is a comic version of a popular series of books aimed at twelve year old girls. Since I am not a part of this demo, it really wasn't for me. However, it wasn't bad and was a fast read. Meh. Spider-Woman: Agent of SWORD - Bad. I get the idea behind this book, but the execution is way off. The Maleev art is not my cup of tea and made things hard for me at times. My main gripe, after seven issues, I have ZERO ideas on what her powers are. None. I cannot recall reading anything with Spider-Woman in it. And since this was a new series, I feel it should have helped me along. She has a glowy hand, maybe. She cannot fly. That is all I got. Not a good introduction to a character on any level. Heart Transplant - Nice quite story that takes a while to get going. The first 10-15 pages are really disjointed from the rest of the book. Only real gripe is the awkward size of the thing. The book is bigger than my laptop and just looks weird on a bookshelf. Odd thing to notice, but it just strikes me as an odd choice to make. Granted, I have seen this thing at my LCS for years and wondered what the heck it was. Meh. Graphic Novels - 3 Trades - 7 (32)
  10. Live and Let Die - About three years after getting this movie, I finally sat down to watch the damn thing. I enjoyed this for the most part. Roger Moore wasn't as much of a turn-off as Bond as I had mistakenly thought in my mind. This is the first time that I feel that a Bond film is too long and could have used a bit of an edit. That fucking boat race was 75 minutes too long. The hill-jack cop was so out of place. Edit the boat shenanigans down to five minutes and it would help streamline this movie so much.

I watched one game this weekend and only one game. And that would be the Niners doing what the Niners do. Looking ahead, I think this was the better match-up for San Fransisco. Of the five non-wins (stupid tie), 4 came from teams with a run-first mentality with a big back. I don't see that in Atlanta. Granted, I have seen 0 Falcons games, but I don't feel like Turner is a back that can give the Niners problems. I do worry about Gonzalez having a big day tho. If Kaepernick can play mistake free football I see this being a 10 point game. If Kaepernick struggles, this could come down to an Akers' FG attempt, which is not something I would look forward to. Gonna be fun.
  12. The Aquabats Supershow - Somewhere on the internet.. I watched this because of Dan and I loved this. Exactly what I wanted it to be. Pure fun. I have a hard time figuring out which Aquabat is my favorite. Eaglebones Falconhawk is just awesome with awesomer powers, but Jimmy the Robot is a friggin' robot. The cartoons were surprisingly well done. The commercials are hit or miss. But like I said, it is just pure fun.
  13. It is always nice to see a guy get a shot. OLE~~!
  14. Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (Season 2) - Holy shit! The crammed a lot of stuff into 26 episodes. I am a little disappointed that a few loose ends never got tied up, but the good far outweighs any little niggles I can think of. They give Spider-Man somewhat of a character arch in two episodes. Thor is just awesome. The Black Panther 'sacrifice' is very moving. And lastly, this show made me want to see a Blaxploitation/Kung-Fu Power Man & Iron Fist movie. That is something that needs to be made.
  15. Nude Nuns with Big Guns - There are nude nuns. There are big guns. We get a nun with a gun. We get a nude nun with a big gun. Heck, we even get one nude nun and one non-nude nun with big guns. But we never get nude nuns with big guns. Blatant false advertising. That fact that I noticed this kinda makes me sad. It is what you would expect it to be. I am kinda disappointed that it didn't go further over the top. I was trying to straddle that line when it should have just been bug fuck insanely over-the-top. And in the set up for a sequel (seriously?) and yeah, I was disappointed with this.
  16. Scurvy Dogs: Rags to Riches - Decent comedy book at times. Some jokes work, some try too hard. Interesting mix that I think comes out slightly above average. Graphic Novels - 1 Trades - 6 (25)
  17. Godawful is 100% correct. Poorly animated and the non-stop 'thought balloons' of Peter are so very grating. It was the first thing I tried to watch on Netflix and I couldn't make it through one episode. Just horrid.

    Randomness

Going thru some boxes and I found this blast from the past.
  19. The Incredibles - Not as much fun as I was expecting. I was looking to revisit these characters, and for the most part, this failed to deliver. Everyone is boiled down to one note and they stick to that. And an uninspired story which it looks like will never be finished. There are some cool retro covers tho. Graphic Novels - 1 Trades - 5 (20)
  20. Beverly Hills Cop III - I am torn on this movie. It feels like a natural evolution (and sequel) of the first movie. Axel is more mature and has grown into being a very good cop. The twenty seconds with his boss at the beginning show us everything we needed to know. On the other hand, you cannot shake the feeling that Murphy is phoning in his performance at times. It is odd, but I enjoy this low volume Eddie Murphy. As for the plot, it is what it is. Better villain, but I there was a mistake in execution. They are making counterfeit $1 bills. Who does that? Also, the big action scene on the amusement park ride is really out of place. It just doesn't fit in with the tone of any of these films. Overall, better than II, slightly above average.
  21. Beverly Hills Cop - Pretty good 80s cop movie. Had its moment of comedy, not everything worked, but more good than bad. Beverly Hills Cop II - Just not as good. Villain is not as good, plot is rather sloppy, and just not the same about on heart. Eddie Murphy is a bit too much Eddie Murphy at times. In the 1st movie, Axel is a guy who jokes around, but is generally a good guy with good intentions. In this one, he is kinda a douche. Also, some editing problems in the first half hour.
