  1. Netflix may be losing them pretty soon = http://whats-on-netflix.com/news/netflix-could-be-loosing-a-ton-of-bbc-content/
  2. LOL! Personally, I think trying to tie in as many shows into that globe is one of those things that give obsessed fans of TV shows bad reps, unless you are trying to "prove" why it was a dumb way to end the series, and that's a pretty good example of why! As opposed to the fun of reliving playing with your toys as a child and crossing the streams and jokingly fanwanking "excuses" for direct references and homages on podcasts. As a person who did that last year, thanks. Consider it payback for the Aunt May wisecrack last page = BTW, Mike, can this be used to prove Teen Titans, once and for all, was NOT in DCAU continuity? = http://dwaynemcduffie.com/?p=47

  4. Isn't one of the Star Trek series one of the series that connects to the "It's all in the kid's snow globe" theory about St. Elsewhere? Sooooo...where does Doctor Who slide into that snow globe? =
  5. On topic, I know what you've guys have said about licences comics in the episode, and in other episodes, but of the Doctor Who series that have been done through the years, that you've read, what have been some of your favorites?
  6. Interesting... The Fantasticast Been going through every issue of the Fantastic Four since January of 2012! Oddly enough, they had issues with their name originally being similar to two different podcasts with the same title, before turning into The FantastiCast.
  7. Don't know if you recorded yet, but I wonder if you guys want to discuss this article in some form: http://www.buzzfeed.com/adambvary/buffyverse-characters-ranked-worst-to-best Eh, then again, it is "Buffyverse," so maybe its best for after the Angel coverage wraps.
  8. Hmmmm...I think I know what to suggest for a Halloween episode of For Better or Worse next year!
  9. I would have played the Mandy clip!
  10. I forget what forum it was way back when (may have been City Of...), but there was an episode reaction thread to Salvage where a poster took the Faith and Angelus exchange "Do you kiss your Mom with that mouth?" "No, but I ate her with it" as a reference to the name of the Buffy episode. The poster was simply answered with "No, reference to Angelus actually killing his family.". Ahhh newbies to TV shows, especially (no idea actually but if the poster didn't know Angelus's backstory, I'm guessing he or she was just jumping onto the shows) coming on that late in the game.
  11. Going back to the point about RTD writing for the internet and cosplayers, I wonder though if Firefly fans who cosplay with Jayne's wool ski hat have Doctor Who beat though. Granted the episode "The Message" is available on DVD and streaming, and has been widely available to view for a little more than a decade now, it is still an episode that never actually aired! Granted I'm sure it was never intended as a bone to throw to devoted fans to run with, but it did develop into a quirky thing for fans to latch on to. Out of curiosity though, are there other more well known cosplaying "options" borne out of a one-time appearance or some variation the way Whovians have been drawn to 11's Fezs and Pirate Amy? I mean was it ever popular to dress up as blue shirt Picard from the TNG episode "Tapestry" to replicate the possibility Q presented Picard of a life he could have had if he didn't get stabbed through the heart by a Nasscican*? *For non TNGers, and seriously, watch the episode, it's a classic. The premise was that it was a Picard that would never take risks and always go with safer choices, and thus never rose beyond the rank of being a Lieutenant grade scientist, hence a blue uniform instead of his Captain position and red uniform.
  12. Thanks Will, that's what I assumed. About to wrap up a Firefly watching binge tonight and catching Serenity tomorrow night at a local Alamo Drafthouse. Come to think of it, surprised there isn't a good marathon of Firefly leading up to the showing. That'd be a fun all-day event to enjoy.
  13. Out of curiosity, is Angel/Firefly going to be treated in the same concurrent manner?
  14. This could be interesting, a 2013 version of Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
  15. Uh Mike, while he never has been Taft-esque in size, there is a reason for that SNL McDonalds skit with Clinton.
  16. FWIW, I'd think The Doctor gets a pass from the Darren/Becky thing since they go out of their way to make sure the audience knows that the incarnations are different from each other. Darren/Becky is when a different actor/actress is playing the same EXACT ROLE, even if the new one plays it differently, the character is the same. The incarnations of the Doctor may be the same Time Lord, but its clear that they are not the same personae. It's like explaining the Holy Trinity, three entities in one sort of thing I guess! =
  17. BTW, here is one example of an actor leaving the show, and down the road get killed off, which funny enough fucked with the continutiy of a show that was intended as a spinoff! Wayne Rogers, Trapper John, leaves M*A*S*H* after three seasons in a bitter contract dispute, now unlike McLane Stephenson's character, Trapper is just written off and not killed. Now, in 1979 a show called Trapper John, MD debuts, not starring the same actor of course, but it is based upon the same character. TECHNICALLY its a spinoff from the movie which is different from the show, which means what follows is not all that big of a deal, but still a rather dickish thing to do. Anyway, in a quick Google search it seems more like a hearsay urban legend, but around the time Trapper John, MD had started a script of M*A*S*H* was on the table where it was learned off screen that Trapper John had been killed. And while legally TJMD was a spinoff of the movie, CBS's PR machine was trying to tie the two shows together (TJMD taking place much later), which would not go over well if Trapper was dead in the M*A*S*H* universe, yet still alive in TJMD! So the script was changed.
  18. I knew going in that this was recorded before the news on Matt Smith broke, but it is still chuckle worthy to hear "no real news right now" despite last weekend's internet breaking news.
  19. I'm wondering now if plans are being made to extend BOTI's current run to 141 shows before its hiatus to give Smith a proper send off, rather than waiting until whenever they pick up the show again.
  20. Yeah, this is a perfect example of going way too far when trying to take a schloarly look at popcorn entertainment. Specifically ones aimed at children/young adults. It's one thing to explore themes, deeper meanings in episodes and story arcs, and allegories. It's another to go above and beyond that by creating stuff out of thin air just to fit whatever political or social agenda you are trying to push in the name of academia.
  21. WOW! WHAT THE... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2330872/Discriminate-Discriminate-Doctor-Who-branded-thunderingly-racist-academics--conquers-Daleks-slavery--likes-cricket.html I'd put this in the BOTI forum, but looks like the general discussion thread is no longer there? Anyway, this is a funny quote:
  22. On top of what Preston said. I dont't know if Mike or James have seen it, but its NOTHING like the show from the 2000s. From what I've heard, its taking the characters and designs, and making it into a silly, aimed at 4 year old popcorn cartoon, that are just one off "misdaventures" dealing with kiddie humor.
  23. Surprised you didn't play up a little more the fact that you guys are now at the point that you are covering stuff that aired while BOTI had started airing. Kind of an interesting milestone when you think about it =
