    The Music Thread

Listening to some of the music from the failed Batman musical. Not as bad as it could have been.

I'm going to sound like a major geek for this one but I think my favorite part of that Batman and Sons is that the woman at the house is Merry, Girl of 1000 Gimmicks.
  3. From Cinema Blend: http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Tarantino-Promises-Kill-Bill-Vol-3-15004.html I'm kinda excited. The character of the Bride was one of my favorites in Cinema and Tarantino did leave enough dangling threads from the first two films that a sequel seems like it would work.

Arnold got left behind in the episode where they explored the digestive system. To be honest, not once do we ever even get a mention of a permission slip nor does Miss Frizzle seem to teach anything other than science. If she did, we might get a sweet episode where they take the bus on a field trip to Lord of the Flies.

  6. The problem is that there is a mini-fridge but both of them are too lazy to go and get the freon recharged or whatever is wrong with it. So, it sits there in the kitchen, taking up space. Oh well, I went grocery shopping today and I'm going to reorganize our fridge because as it stands right now, it's like people just threw stuff in where ever there was room rather than trying to make it look like a storage space. On a sidenote, it's kinda funny. My own personal space is a wreck but when it comes to a shared, communal space, that's where I get touchy. Not a clue why.

The Magic School Bus also teaches you how powerful a permission slip is. One permission slips allows your teacher to take you on any number of life threatening field trips whenever the mood strikes her with no fear of repercussions at all.
  8. Listening to the grades on this episode, was this the worst reviewed batch of episodes so far?
  9. Mike, just put it a lot of applications at retail places because they're all going to be hiring for the Christmas rush. The bonus is getting the discount also. I know that most Barnes and Noble still do the paper application. If you have any retail experience, they're also rather willing to hire. Even better if you have good availability.
  10. So, I come home from hanging out with my neighbors to find out that my one roomies and his girlfriend have bought groceries and pulled a sitcom by writing their initials on all of their stuff. This is kinda insulting to me and the other roommate because we never use their stuff without asking and they even took the time to initial the milk which has always, up until now, been community property. Since I'm the only one who ever touches the dishes, debating on just doing what I use and then starting to hide my cooking utensils, see how long until someone cracks.
  11. Sounds fun and enlightening. Definitely going to add it to my subscriptions once it shows up on iTUBES.

I'm looking forward to when Marvel does "Aunt May Gone Wild" variants.
  14. I don't know how to feel about the trailer. I grew up with Robert Englund as Freddy and Jackie Earle Haley, just from the footage here, doesn't hold a candle to him. I'm sure he'll bring something new to the role but, overall, it feels like he's trying to do an impression and I'll second Yoda on his voice, especially in the flashback opening of the trailer. It sounds like Freddy has a lisp. That said, I'll still see the movie opening weekend but then go home and watch Dream Warriors to wash the taste out of my mouth.
  15. I am now completely caught up with Lost and I really got to say that I wish I had taken it slower because now I have to wait four blasted months until I get my next fix. Damn.
  16. My best friend might be moving to San Diego. On one hand, I am rather sad about this. On the other hand, one of the major hassles of going to Comic-Con would be going out the window right there and then. Such an interesting dilemma.
  17. I feel like this week was God's way of telling me that nationalized health care is a good thing. First I had an ear ache. That starts to get better but I get a terrible cold in the process. Then as that gets better, the ear ache comes back and I have times where I consider stabbing myself in the hand so that I can focus on a different pain for a moment. So, that starts to get better then one of my wisdom teeth starts acting up and I'm awake at 2:42 waiting for my fucking aspirin to kick in. I have no money to go to the doctor/dentist to even get a prescription for some actual painkillers. Fun times really.
  18. Alan Moore is a good comic book writer and the industry is the better for it. That said, his over-inflated ego is only rivaled by his ability to take something very small and then over-inflate it into something huge then blame Marvel or DC for it. The guy has a rather venomous mouth and can't seem to ever have a nice thing to say. As for his quote about the industry having no original ideas, all Geoff Johns is doing to taking an eight page story you wrote that wasn't even that great and using it to craft a longer, richer narrative, much of which is original. By Moore's own logic, he's even more guilty for borrowing from other writer's and using their characters to craft League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
  19. I like Iceman for a bigger role in X-men comics but I just don't think he works solo, at least not yet. His character is so marginalized that in spite of having an eventful career in the group very few remember that role. Maybe if the pushed him as the big gun of the one of the teams, or if he beat a top bad guy solo. I can see Bobby beating Aries or someone like that to raise his profile a bit, make room for some top level character attention and a potential mini if the interest is there. One of the problems with Iceman is that the people writing him seem to always forget he's one of the originals and they write him like a n00b every time. Sadly, Chuck Austen, a man I revile for what he did to the X-Men, is one of the only ones in recent history to treat Bobby with an iota of respect. Personally, I'm kinda hoping someone who writes the character watches Heroes, in particular the character of Niki, realize that Bobby's having the exact same powers (more water-based than ice-based) was seeded back in the nineties, and run with that.
  20. Wait, Canada has laws and a history? Holy shit, I thought it was do whatever the mounties tell you to do or else Queen Elizabeth will kill you where you stand. Well, you do learn new things everyday.
  21. Not quite. He had an episode last season but that's about it. He was entirely absent during the "Fugitives" arc since it was, let's say it together, convenient for the plot. I don't know how to react to the new season yet. On one hand, I was interested by some of the plot points. On the other, I was interested by the first couple of episodes of "Villains" and we all know how that spiraled down towards the end. I reserve judgment on this season until we're at least a quarter in.
  22. Smith's comic book writing is variable at best to me. He's at his best when the editorial staff gives him some room to play around with, to set a status quo or when he's working with his own characters. For example, his runs on Daredevil and Green Arrow effectively relaunched the characters after either death or a period of languishing in obscurity. Then take his recent Batman minis or the Spider-Man/Black Cat mini he did for Marvel a few years back. In both cases, Smith is working with stories that were barely in continuity and he is given almost limitless amounts of space to mess around with. In the case of Black Cat, we get a pointless rape back story added to Felicia Hardings character. In the case of Cacophony, we get a Batman that doesn't quite shut up. If Smith has a real ongoing, I would probably read it but minis, probably not.
