RSS
Dan and Mike break format this week; instead of discussing two forthcoming collections and one that's already on the shelves, they cover (and argue over) the two series that made Alex Ross a comic book superstar: Marvels and Kingdom Come! SuaveStar
Listening right now. Dammit I am a big fan of waiting for the trade. Ah the drug episode... Dan is Joey Lawrence....You know, in a weird way it makes sense.

Koete
The Marvels Premiere HC does not have the 200 pages of bonus material. That collection is the Marvels 10th Anniversary HC. It contains the original proposals, scripts for each issue, introductions to the scripts by various creators, Alex Ross' sketches, and a look at Alex's artisitc process. It is slightly oversized, having the same dimensions as Marvel's Visionaries line. I picked it up for $12 at last year's Baltimore Comic Con and it was how I read Marvels for the first time. Being a big fan of the Silver Age, I absolutely loved it.
Dan
Yeah, Mike and I discussed which version had the crapload of bonus material, and we eventually came to the conclusion that I was, in fact, talking out of my ass. I'm sure it was edited out because listening to Mike look things up online makes for riveting listening.
Missy
At the very least I trimmed down that section, but I might have cut it all together. I can't recall.
SuaveStar
I'm going to finish up listening to the episode tomorrow. However I might as well ask here. Would it be worth me asking someone to pick me up kingdom come for christmas?

Missy
Would it be worth me asking someone to pick me up kingdom come for christmas? As Dan and I noted during the episode, though Kingdom Come is a solid story, it is for hardcore DC fans. So you might find it somewhat inaccessible. slothian
Heh! Dan: Whaddayamean you don't recognise that famous actor from the 40s & 50s?!?!? Mike: .....oh, that's who it is!!
Dan
The Shaggy Dog? No? The Absent-Minded Professor? Anyone? I gotta rethink my movie collection.
Dread
Marvels never did it for me. Which is a surprise seeing how much of a Silver Age Marvel mark I am. I thought it never really seemed honest. Kingdom Come is on the level with Watchmen. Nuff Said.
Flashfan1
I've been going back and listening to old episodes of the show, and this one finally gave me a reason to sit down and read Marvels, which was great. I decided to resurrect this thread here because I was surprised nobody mentioned (or maybe even noticed, but I doubt that one, especially in the years since this episode) that Clark Kent is in attendance at Reed and Sue's wedding. I thought that was a cool Easter egg, I love stuff like that. Like I said, I'm sure this isn't news to anyone, but thought I'd mention it anyway
