RSS
While reviewing Casanova #1, Fell #1, The Goon #1, Thunderbolts #1, Ultimate Spider-Man #1, and Wonder Woman #14, Des and Mike suffer traumatic Countdown flashbacks. Also, Mike rants about Nazis, and Des is inspired to create a new exploitation film series. dc20willsave
Listening to the show right now. I hadn't actually heard of Fell before but I'm going to find the trade or back issues whenever I get the chance. Sounds really cool and I like most of Warren Ellis's work. Missy
The Fell trade is out of print, but Image is reissuing it in March. If you order your comics through DCBS, it's listed on the current (RE: January) site for only $8.99.

dc20willsave
Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy Wonder Woman but it's all good. As for the gorillas, they appear in the entire run so far and might be the most awesome aspect of Gail's run so far. Congrats Mike on getting Hippolyta's name right this time. Now to work on Valeria. Koete
Casanova sounds awesome, I'm going to have to grab the trade. Fell is brilliant. I've heard rumors that Ellis and Templesmith are working on new issues and I hope they're true. The Goon is my favorite comic on the stands. The humor is my kind of humor and Powell's art is gorgeous every month. It isn't always gag after gag and recent issues have gotten more serious in tone. There's also a clear storyline that begins to take form as the Dark Horse run goes on. If you don't dig it, that's cool, it's certainly an acquired taste. . Koete
I'm with Des, Bagley's best work was during the 90s.

I want to say #10 was just re-solicited, so that leads me to believe #11 and onward are forthcoming.

Captain Nazi was in Villains United so technically they have fought a Nazi before. Catman blinded him. Then he got killed by Red Hood. Aren't comic book great where you can have a character with the name "Captain Nazi" with absolutely no irony whatsoever?
Stavros
Nazi's are great if they bear a direct relevance to the characters they face, like Hellboy or Captain America. Beyond that I don't see them as very useful.

Or if you have people who are trying to be Nazi fascists with the beliefs, like the characters in American History X?

Outside of those direct connections its cheap. American History X guys Aren't nazi's they're racists of a different ilk. Not a member of the National Socialist party prior to 1945? Then you are not a nazi.

Well, it's been a few years (Around 7 atleast) since I saw AHX, and one of the scenes that I remember is when they psycho's have a party and have a big poster with Hitler on it and kids saluting it. That and Norton having the swastika on his chest. Nazis are a way of getting cheap heat in a comic, I'll give you that. Also: I knew the JSA were going to face Nazis soon, as they do in issue 37 under Bill Willingham.

The nazi's were a dominant political party in Germany during 30's and 40's, membership in that group makes you a valid nazi. Tattooing an iron eagle on your forehead just means you're an anti-social racist fucker. Guys like that are more likely to be Klan members than anything because that's a genuine organisation with living representatives.
Sn4tcH
I can't believe Des had an issue with the close-ups. Man, he would go nuts if he kept reading. Especially issue 13, where almost every frame is a close-up. Anyway, I've always heard USM praised for Bagley's use of close-ups. Because of Bendis' overly talky style, Bagley used a lot of close-ups to spice up scenes that may have been a lil dialogue heavy. To hear someone point it out as a negative gave me the same reaction as if someone told me they thought The Godfather was bad. Not because it's that shocking, but more because I've never heard anyone say it's bad (Both the Godfather and Bagley's close-up style). Missy
It was I who took issue with it. And take another look at that first issue, it's way overused.
SuaveStar
Could you do an episode of 1st issue special on comic book events? Like the first issues of events. Excluding Blackest Night as you've already done that one. Or comics that are now really big right now, such as Walking Dead #1, Green Lantern #1, Batman and Robin #1 stuff like that.
