You Know Who
Favorite 1950- Cinderella* 1951- The Day the Earth Stood Still 1952- Nothing. 1953- The Roman Holiday 1954- The Seven Samurai 1955- Nothing. 1956- Nothing. 1957- What's Opera, Doc? 1958- Elevator to the Gallows 1959- Sleeping Beauty Best 1950- Cinderella* 1951- Strangers on a Train 1952- Nothing. 1953- The Roman Holiday 1954- The Seven Samurai 1955- Nothing. 1956- Nothing. 1957- The Seventh Seal/12 Angry Men 1958- Elevator to the Gallows 1959- North by Northwest *by default Honorable Mentions: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954), Witness for the Prosecution (1957), Touch of Evil (1958) If you couldn't tell from my list, I have probably seen fewer films from this decade than any other. I have seen Singin' in the Rain, Oklahoma!, and The King and I (from 1952, 1955, and 1956) but not with adult eyes. The best film I've seen from this decade is either The Seven Samurai, The Seventh Seal, or 12 Angry Men.
Stavros
1950- Sunset Boulevard 1951- Rashomon 1952- n/a 1953- n/a 1954- Rear Window 1955- The Dam Busters 1956- The Searchers 1957- 12 Angry Men 1958- Vertigo 1959- North by Northwest In strong contention for 1957 are also Bridge on the River Kwai and Paths of Glory First year with gaps for me. It's not that I've never seen anything from those years it's just that seeing one film doesn't qualify it as the best of that year.
dc20willsave
1950- Sunset Boulevard/All About Eve 1951- A Streetcar Named Desire 1952- Singin In the Rain 1953- Roman Holiday 1954- Rear Window 1955- Rebel Without a Cause 1956- Forbidden Planet 1957- The Bridge on the River Kwai 1958- Cat on a Hot Tin Roof 1959- Some Like It Hot Not quite any gaps for me. It's worth pointing out that 1950 (Sunset Boulevard and All About Eve) are the other two components of my three favorite movies of all time. Most other years didn't have something big fighting with it for the top spot.
