  1. We didn't want to besmirch Hitchcock by mentioning him in the same breath.

    Fair point.

I have heard of a sequel to "The Birds" in a direct to TV movie directed by Alan Smithee ( If I had to direct a sequel to a Hitchcock film, I would want to be anonymous as well).

I remembered enjoying a Nissan commercial from 1996 which I now see as the 90' s version of Birdemic.

  2. I liked the No Mercy post too. I thought this observation was especially good:

How do you accurately portray a scripted dramatization of a real fight? At its core, a wrestling game has to somehow be an authentic reproduction of a fake reproduction of something real.

Looking back, as much as I loved No Mercy, Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 for PS2 is probably my favorite wrestling game ever.

I have a friend who is introducing me to wrestling (starting with the creation of the N.W.O.). Now whenever I tell friends and family that I am getting into wrestling and people will tell me:

    "You know its all fake."

I may use the Cubs player suddenly revealing himself to be playing for the Red Sox analogy to explain why I am now a fan.

  3. The funny thing is, there are multiple episodes coming up (including Monday's) that have much more overt content.

I remember a similar thing happened with the first season of Gravity Falls, at least with my local cable provider. Tyler Cutebiker was always cut out in favor of a disembodied voice saying.

    "Get 'im, Get 'im!"

In season two and three the censorship stopped. I imagine whoever censored him must have blown a gasket when Tyler was one of the love god's groupies.

  4. Castle in the Sky: I'm not going to say it's my favorite Studio Ghibli film but it's definitely up there. It's fun and beautiful. This is my first time watching it with the original score (Disney had it rescored when they originally brought it over by the original composer. Both are beautiful in their own way). So, yeah, good times.

Beauty and the Beast: Fucking beautiful in HD. In many ways, this is the high point of Disney's Second Golden age. It got the Oscar Nomination for Best Picture and it deserved it. It's just that good. The voice acting is top notch without ever feeling gimmicky, the music is never out of place, and, like I said, it's just beautiful.

I heard Miyazaki apologized for Castle in the Sky, but I cannot find any evidence to support that. i loved that movie.

I cannot watch Beauty and the Beast without crying. It is a beautiful film.

  5. Kingsman: The Secret Service: Goddamn, that was a good fucking film.

I read the comic book and liked the twist they made to intentionally throw off the people who read it. It gave them something new rather than the same thing. Even without the misdirection it was much better than the comic book.

My introduction to Colin Firth was from the A&E production of Pride and Prejudice, I got the weirdest smug feeling when I saw Mr. Darcy in the middle of the church massacre scene.

  6. I cannot wait until the review of the Christmas special. It is the closest thing anime fans have to a live action Yu Yu Hakusho.

    It IS?!

The only other thing that I could think of that was close to YYH live action is "The Invisible" starring Justin Chatwin, months before Dragonball Evolution.

If you could think of something closer I would love to hear about it. Because everything I have come across does not come anywhere near.
