  1. I haven’t played the game, but I have watched the scene. I don’t understand the argument for it glorifying terrorism.
  2. Personally, if 3D is poorly implemented and actually detracts from a film, I want to know about that. I’m glad guys like Ebert are actually mentioning it in their reviews.
  3. I’d say that’s a pretty hard thing to measure.
  4. Man, reviews across the board are pretty scathing. I think I can safely avoid seeing this. That’s money saved I suppose.
  5. Y’know, I was never really interested in Scooby-Doo when I was a kid, but I’ll be damned if Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated isn’t the best take on the characters I’ve seen. I found the pilot online after hearing good things about it and was genuinely surprised. It’s actually clever and funny. And they just stole a body from a crime scene. Yep.
  6. No no no no. They got it all wrong. Wonder Woman needs be wearing even less under the jacket (which should be bulkier and have more pockets). She also needs to be holding a massive gun on the first cover, which will be holographic. Honestly, it’s their character so they can do what they want with her. I just think the costume could be better. Replacing the jacket with something a little less goofy would be a good start.
  7. I have been reading comics. Let me tell you about some of them. The Lagoon by Lilli Carré. A beautiful exploration of sound and music and the effect it has on three generations of one family. From the way the artwork looked I was expecting this to be a lot more abstract and creepy, but it actually ends on an uplifting note. Carré is an artist I’ll be watching out for. Hey, Wait… by Jason I’ve seen Jason’s book around for ages but I only finally got around to reading one last night. I really, really liked it. I think I had a lot of misgivings about Jason’s art style, but looking at it up close, it’s a lot more expressive than I was giving it credit for. It’s such a simple story of childhood tragedy, but it’s told in such a great way that I’ll probably read through it again tonight. Young Liars by David Lapham I finished the final trade last night. I have no idea what the fuck I just read. I’m sure there’s a clever explanation out there somewhere, and I’ll readily admit I just sort of skimmed through it after a while, but boy am I confused. I mean, the first trade kind of fucked me up, what with the rape and castration and beheadings and all that. but Lapham actually made each arc a little crazier, culminating in something I don’t even know how to react to. I hear Lapham is writing a follow up to Crossed now. I’m not surprised. I’m sure he’ll be right at home.
  8. Y’know, as dumb as Wild Wild West is, I’ve always enjoyed it. There just aren’t enough films with cowboys fighting giant mechanical spiders. Anyway: Sita Sings the Blues. A really cool animated movie available for free thanks to some copyright issues involving the use of several Annette Hanshaw recordings. It’s a movie that was written, directed, animated and produced almost entirely by one person; Nina Paley. It didn’t set my world on fire, but I thought it was clever, and the music was fantastic. Grave of the Fireflies. My DVD was too scratched up. It managed to get to the last ten minutes without any major hitches, and that’s it. Really interesting film though. I intend to watch it in full at some point in the near future. The A-Team. A whole lot of fun. Shaky cam is always annoying though.
  9. Opposite of that for me. It’s not much to go on, but they both sounded like they fit their roles just fine.
  10. I've been waiting for this. The Singles Club is one of my favourite comics of last year. I'm tempted to pick up the trade even though I collected all the issues. EDIT - Man, this was a fun read. You sold the series far better than I ever could. Great job.
  11. I know this is gong back to a discussion from last month, but: Well, he did lose a ton of weight to play a prisoner of war in Rescue Dawn. I doubt he ever got anywhere near where he was in the Machinist, but he still looked pretty awful. Then he gained it all back again.
  12. Man, that trailer just deflated any interest I had in seeing the damn thing. I'll probably keep my eye on it around release, just to see what the critics have to say. Who knows, maybe it was just an awful trailer that doesn't really convey what the film is like.
  13. I haven’t been following this at all, but it does look cool. I think more than anything I want to see how Rogen plays his part.
  14. Dear lord, he’d be huffing and wheezing before he even gets to the ring. I could see him getting in the right shape ten years ago, but now? It’s a bit late. Not to mention that I’ve never heard of him learning any kind of martial art. It doesn’t sound like he’s got much to work with beyond being big.
  15. Yeah well. I hope you fun. Because Borderlands is pretty sweet. EDIT - It took me just one try to beat a boss that I was struggling with last night. I guess I need to play more games while tipsy.
  16. But I'd rather play Dead Space than Mass Effect. Yeah, what you gonna do about that big man?
  17. But... but the sound work in Dead Space is so good Sin and Punishment 2 is the fucking boooooooooooooooooooomb Gonna play some more.
  18. The happiest of happy birthdays.

  21. Hmm? I've never heard of Casablanca having particularly impressive numbers. Are you sure you’re not talking about Gone with the Wind?
  22. Scott, if your life had a face, I’d punch it.
