  1. I was going to make this point in the DC question page, but as you make the point in the podcast, I thought I'd address it here. The Lois-Lane-does-something-questionable-in-a-strip-club question. You said you didn't like it because it was Lois Lane that was being used, and because it would be tantamount to Superman doing the same if the whole scenario was gender-reversed (Green Arrow's stag do). Unless I've misinterpreted what you said, I'd say otherwise. Granted, this is coming off what I know as being the basics of the Lois Lane character as I don't read comics and am fully expected to have something pointed out to me immediately. With all that said, Lois Lane is a top investigative journalist. She's hard-nosed and will go above & beyond to get a story, certainly much more so than Clark Kent. As a result you'd expect, in terms of character, Lois is more daring and determined than Superman's persona. I agree that Kent would be fully uncomfortable in a venue such as a strip club, but I could potentially see Lois letting her hair down and "playing hard" due to her personality. With that said, you could easily argue that she would be courting professional suicide if it emerged that she'd done something suspect like snorted cocaine or had a one night stand, and thus wouldn't actually go through with such an act. All I'm saying is that was she not someone with a public profile, it would be potentially in her nature to risk something on a wild girls night out. As I say though, I'm pinning that on a character whom I don't fully know the history of. Anyway, I always love dipping into these. Granted, "dipping into" may be the wrong expression, given how long they go for!!! Even so, it's definitely appreciated that you guys are going through a weekly series in this manner. Even if you're hating it (that comment's especially for Mike!), it's a good testament to the site that something ongoing in current comics is getting this kind of coverage. It's certainly informing a non-reader like me, who relies on such tidbits to act as the basis of my opinions on the entire industry as a whole (that isn't as harsh as it sounds - I have a degree in HISTORY, which is all about fiddling about with the few facts you remember!!!!). So plaudits to you, Mike & Des, for all you suffer through to bring the rest of us such coverage!!!
  2. http://www.slashfilm.com/2007/10/18/justic...s-wonder-woman/ Of that list, Victoria Hill. Sossamon does nothing for me, Winstead & Palmer are too young and Christina Millian is USELESS at everything she does. It's not that she's black that should hamper her but the fact she has no talent.
  3. I love how the quick justification was Halloween. Not Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Amityville Horror, but the one remake that came off quite favourably. The reason is not artistic, it's commercial; here endeth my "no-shit-Sherlock" observation of the day.

LOVED the comedic zombie song!!!!! Good show too, but man, what a song!!
  5. I know its meant to be a different continuity and everything, but I just look at that and think "what's the point?" Seriously, is Lucy Lawless Wonder Woman because her voice acting suits the part, or because she's well-known as Xena?

    Episode 06

I agree - very good interview!! Slightly punctuated by the sounds of a crying infant, though!
  7. It was on the last CR I recorded, which I *think* is episode #129. Cripes, I should get on another now we're in the 160s!!
  8. The original Manhunt was originally blamed for inspiring a murder in my hometown, so a lot of Jack Thompson-style misinformation has surrounded the series and has subsequently been worked into news bulletins covering this story. Still, see if you can spot the glaring flaw in the mother's argument from the wikipedia article. Link
  9. I liked this a lot, Mr Reddick! For a film/show to truly be regarded as a classic, it kind of HAS to hold up years after it was made in some way. This Dracula film makes me think of the animated LOTR series (which I only partially remember) and how that interpretation has come to be ridiculed nowadays (such as in the Lemmiwinks episode of South Park). Oh, and did you ever respond to my review of Roger Corman's Fantastic Four? I agree that it's a pretty bad film by all accounts, but it's got charm going for it if nothing else!
  10. I haven't watched Transformers, or any other film Megan Fox has been in, but she really doesn't look like an undead slasher type. Unless Cassie Hack is a cookie-cutter Hollywood hottie, that is, which I doubt.
  11. I brainstormed a number of column ideas when I started writing Comic Reel-lief articles, and one of them was about actors taking on more than one comic book role. Now granted, Abigail Whistler is not, to my knowledge, in any comic book, but I'm still unsure on dual CBM roles - the main reason I haven't written that article yet! There's something VERY screwed up in WB's priorities if they're pursuing this Justice League film over the Superman Returns sequel, trying to cast a non-Bale Batman and gazumping the Wonder Woman movie. And if this is being rushed before a screen writers strike (and if Zak Penn gets involved, my hopes for this film get even lower) I can only applaud the WB for rushing back to the formula that made Batman & Robin so successful. Oh wait....

    Episode 03

Lived in Banff eh? Charming the local ladis at the ski lodge were ya! I know people like you... I worked more in a town-based hotel, cleaning rooms. But on my days off, I did charm the ladies by falling off my snowboard repeatedly!!! And I did get across to Vancouver and Vancouver Island - you live in a beautiful part of the world, sir!!
  13. Wow, cool ep!! It's hard to believe just how big Dr Who's become. It always used to be popular until around the mid-80s and the then-controller of the BBC, Michael Grade, cancelled it because he didn't like sci-fi. Then the BBC had a survey about what show they wanted to bring back, when Grade was the chairman, and it was Dr Who. And now the BBC can't get enough - there's two sub-shows devoted to the main show and two spin-offs, as well as BBC Shops being packed out with toys and merchandise!!! Funny old world! One point: It really is ECCLEstone, rather than EGGLEstone. But I prefer him too. Not because Tennant is bad or anything, but because my girlfriend fancies the pants off him! Mike, I finally feel your pain over suave British people!!!
  14. I'd like to think this is a reference to me! That said, I think people think of me more as "that British guy", rather than "that feckless alcoholic!!"

I'll agree with Mike about the closing the show bit. You start to draw things to a close, stating your voice, and then the show doesn't end for another 10 minutes later!! That aside, some good content again and it's always nice to hear about Ice Hockey! I used to love it back when I lived in Banff but I barely get a look in nowadays as it really isn't big over here!
  16. Again, I listened to the entire thing (which is quite a feat for someone who doesn't read comics!) and enjoyed the reviews. Disappointing to hear that DC drops the ball more often than it runs with it (ie/ the Amazon attacks thingamy that Des called). I too love the idea of a Trickster/Piper sitcom - a superhero sitcom is probably one of the very few sitcom ideas that hasn't happened as of yet (think witches in 'Sabrina The Teenage Witch' and a Snow White-based sitcom called 'The Charmings' that I remember being on after Captain Planet when I was about 5).
  17. Believe me, if I had posted what I originally wrote on the manga bit, I would be being blasted right now! But all it took was some worrying on my part and I handed it over to James for some input. Honestly, I can't thank him enough for that - it really did save the article. I am aware that the way I talk comes out in my written articles - whether it's creepy or not is another matter. I can assure you that I am not a ninja! Oh, and I think the way I talk might come across more profoundly by the Union Jack being in the banner.....again! I really am a diversity hire, aren't I?!?!?
  18. True enough. Just try telling the casual moviegoer that. Many people thought Begins was a sequel rather than a reboot.. But I agree, the JLA BAtman shouldn't be Bale, even if he did want to be involved. For that reason, I wouldn't want to see Tom Welling play Superman here, no matter what his actual age is.
  19. Ugh, it's Superman Returns that Routh was in, not Superman. Don't confuse a cool CBM with a poor CBM. As for JLA, I can see *why* the WB cleared it (success of the cartoons, Batman Begins, profit on Returns) BUT they really should have optioned a different DC character/group to make into a franchise. THEN, as Bale says (and I back him to the hilt), they can do a JLA film, be it with or without Batman. That said, under no circumstances would they risk doing it without Batman. The bad/mediocre reviews Batman Begins got? They were from people wanting the Joker right there and then. Not giving the crowds a Batman, even one that isn't Bale, would be a profit suicide that producers aren't going to take. I'm pretty sure that that Batman will suck, though.

    Episode 01

Hey, nice inaugural episode, Des! It's interesting to here how positive people seem to be about this remake of Halloween and I liked the somewhat unusual review format of movie discussion in the car home! You should keep that as a feature! The soundtrack review was cool too - the music beforehand was nice and chilling and then you lament the amount of 70s hits on the record!! One of the reasons I'm a big fan of GTA:San Andreas is because it introduced me to a whole lot of music I normally don't listen to, including classic rock, such as the tracks you mentioned. Obviously it depends how much of the film exists in the 70s that would determine its effectiveness (is it the entire film or just Myers's childhood?). Anyway, good stuff mate!
  21. Fantastic stuff, James! I thorougly look forward to the inevitable review of Batman & Robin!!!
  22. That was the PERFECT quote to finish with!!! I rarely actually download podcasts (my lappy preferes strems) but the WFP series is really worth my disk space! Btw, I agree wholeheartedly about the wikipedia arseholes. I always get tetchy about a lack of information on wikipedia as it is, so why some self-important wiki users feel the need to get rid of information doesn't make ANY sense to me. I implore you guys to change shit back repeatedly just to piss them off! EDIT: James mentioned David Nugent?!?!?? That's just surreal!!!!
  23. I was just idly browsing through the folder, despite not being a comic reader, and something struck me. Does DC not have any news to report at all? It seems to be predominantly Marvel and smaller companies. Is this Mike's Marvel bias infiltrating the forums in a subtle way?!?!?!?
  24. The mythology fan in me takes exception to Thor being labelled a Marvel charaater!! Granted, I know he has been adapted by Marvel, but it just reads oddly! I wonder how well a CBM based upon a god can fare. Granted, the Silver Surfer's been done respectfully, but a god? Hmmmmm
  25. I tried one of these out for the first time and liked it a lot. Not that I have money for any of these, let alone that book that Mike's trying to save single-handedly, but I now see why there's a separate podcast to accompany the weekly column. No more Dread Media? That's a shame Des, but you've put in a good innings!
