Basically. I still refuse to call the first film mediocre, although I accept that it's a matter of personal preference. Personally, I was very fond of the first film. Then again, I am hopelessly infatuated with Anna Paquin, who had a substantial role in the first film.

X-Men (the original) was not garbage. Granted, it wasn't as good as X2, but it was a good film in its own right and I will debate you to the death about that.

Y'see, I think she's needed for continuity now. Xavier basically handed control of the institute to her so she's going to be there if the film is once more going to be based from the Academy. That stops her being useless, if not boring perhaps, and gives her a story if they play out the ending from after the credits.

Here's a turn up for the books: I take back everything (well some things) I've said or implied about Berry regarding the X-Men franchise. That said, the tone seems to suggest that she enjoyed working under Ratner more than Singer and I'm hardly surprised as Storm had a much bigger role in X3. The fact that X3 wasn't as good as Singer's two installments though....... :happy:

Basically! I don't care too much about Superman and his franchise as much as I do Batman, but I am a fan of Bryan Singer and his work and I really thought he was going to make an ace film. But he didn't. I'm guessing Warner Bros. is to blame for that. They could see that Batman NEEDED a reboot so they weren't about to do a Batman origins film and then cast the youngest Malcom in the Middle boy as Robin. But Superman, for whatever reason, has always had to be a family man (or in Smallville's case, a smouldering teen) for WB writers to be able to do anything with him in the future - see Lois & Clark and this film. Sometimes I wonder why they don't get Paul Dini or one of the DC Animated writers to step up to the movie game because there's so much gold in B:TAS and JL/JLU. They certainly wouldn't strand Lex Luthor on a tiny island or have him drop Krypton crystals in the sea or completely ignore Lois Lane as a hard-nosed journalist. I'm glad my very name brings excitement! I should do more long term absences, methinks - it's not like I have any films to review at the moment after all!

No. It's very anime-inspired, but not in a good way like Teen Titans was. Oh dear. Still, the Fantastic 4 have never done much for me so que sera sera.

Is this anything like the Timm/Dini/Whoever DC universe? If not, I reserve judgement, especially as I don't rate most all Marvel characters in animation series.

Y'know what I said about the Joker in the last thread? I retract it just due to how immensely, insanely good this season is. Starcrossed wins it for me, but there's so many contenders.

Chalk another one up for 'Injustice for All'. As great as that season is, it's very rarely that I'd vote against the Joker as done by Mark Hamill. "Luckily" I won't have that dilemma for a JLU series poll.....

Who said Hollywood lacked originality? I mean, Jim Carrey films are so great that their greatness needs to be sequelized in such classics as Son of the Mask, Dumb and Dumberer and now this. I mean, didn't they make a new generation Get Smart with Andy Dick? That said, the Bruce Almighty spin-off with Steve Carrell and Morgan Freeman reprising their roles could be good.

IMDB.com is currently reporting that Ryan Phillippe is reportedly the new Harvey Dent. I tried to get onto Batman On Film for more, but it's currently down for me.

This shouldn't surprise me, as "The Hitcher" is one of those under-the-radar films that Hollywood could probably justify remaking. That said, I don't agree with the protagonist being a female - it may be the inner-sexist in me, but I don't enjoy how every horror film has one plucky woman who somehow triumphs over some evil fuck. This film will also suffer from having no Rutger Hauer or Jennifer Jason Leigh, one of the most talented actresses there is nowadays. Even C. Thomas Howell was good. There's just no need.

Oh man! No! Please, please, please do not turn her into a "woman in a refrigerator." Batman does not need a murdered girlfriend to drive him forward or make him hate The Joker. The simple fact that he cannot stop / contain / figure the man out is enough to make Batman hate him. The death of the Waynes is a clean, easy to explain motivation for Bruce's costumed heroics. Compounding that with a dead girlfriend, at the hands of a villain no less, mucks up the simplicity of Batman's core motivation: is he fighting to make sure other children don't suffer the same fate as he, to make sure other men don't lose their lovers, to protect women? See, it becomes too muddy. Fair comment. Perhaps I'm just looking for an excuse to kill off Rachel Dawes before she appears in a third sequel! (She was never a girlfriend though, given her Batman mask dialogue at the end. Sorry to be a pedant, but I feel that's what my correspondant duty is to do!)

Mmh. I don't think so. There's so much more, such as how he went from a scrawny kid interned in a concentration camp to the leader of a pro-mutant revolution. What got him from Point A to B? When and how did he meet Xavier? Did he ever have a wife and kids, and where are they now? I'm telling you, a Journeys of Magneto type movie or TV show has loads of potential. Bear in mind that in the original X-Men film, Magneto goes from a 9-11 year old boy to a guy who's pushing 60, there's fifty years of mutant activism left unaccounted for (save for his brief appearence in X3 at the home of Jean Grey).

I don't really follow anime, but I put my brother onto this column specifically and he laughed along in agreement with much of this. I salute you, James, for making my brother feel like he knows something worthwhile!

If Dent's getting involved in this film, and he is, don't expect the Dawes character to have a huge impact. After all, with her boss's death in the original film, that either promotes her to DA or Dent is being flown in to take his place. Besides, if the Joker kills Dawes, you have insta-heat (excuse the wrestling term) for why Batman has a personal reason to flat out hate the Joker, whilst he didn't flat-out hate Scarecrow or even Ra's. Still, Holmes is a shitty actress.
