To be fair, those of us who watched Angel already knew he could sing and play guitar. But I did not watch Angel. I did not know he could sing until I came across his album on iTunes.

I getting my Leverage fix while I wait for Season 3 to come out on DVD. I know that Season 3 is still airing and that I could watch it, but I cannot watch a show mid-season, though I did catch the episode featuring Duke Hazzard himself and Eliot revealing yet another talent (besides cooking and punching people in the face). That episode made me happy. For those who have not yet heard, Leverage was renewed for a 4th season. For those who have yet to see the show, do yourselves a favor and pick up the first two seasons. This show is amazing.

I plan on going. It has become a tradition for me to hang out at my LCBS before I go my Renaissance Fair rehearsals on Saturdays. The fact that it is Free Comic Book Day is an added bonus. In recent weeks I have ventured out of my Silver Age comfort zone and picked a few modern titles from both DC and Marvel (I have no true alliance to either, though I am better versed in DC lore than Marvel). With this Free Comic Book Day, I plan on picking up titles that I normally would no give a second glance at and whether the story/art are good or bad, I will be another step in getting me out of my comic book comfort zone.

I just had to say good-bye to my beloved dog, Hershey. We took her to vet this morning, because she had been sick. The vet took some x-rays and found a massive tumors in her chest. Rather than letting her suffer anymore, we decided to let her sleep peacefully for ever more. The vet let us be with her as she left this world, which was a huge comfort to me. This summer when my brother is home on leave, we are taking her ashes up to the family cabin where her spirit can run through the woods and chase rabbits for all eternity. Hershey was the best dog I ever had and enjoyed every minute of her 14 years and 3 months on this Earth. In terms of dog years, she was over 100. I happy to know that she is no longer suffering and is in a better place, wherever it may be. I will miss her greatly. Rest in peace Hershey, my oldest, most faithful friend.

That's right Mike, it's spring here too, enough though there is a massive amount of snow on the ground! I haven't felt the need for my winter coat in two weeks, since the temperature is in the positive numbers... for now.

Fun Aquaman fact: While not the first superhero to get married, though he was certainly among the first, Aquaman was the first superhero to have offspring. Aquababy (known today as Arthur Jr.) first appeared in October of 1965.

A thought has occurred to me: Could the character of Senator Carter be paying homage to Edgar Rice Burroughs' character John Carter from his Martian books? Senator Carter is referred to as J. Allen Carter. The J could stand for John. He was an astronaut visiting Mars. Burroughs' character of John Carter was a Confederate officer who was transported to Mars and is then referred to as John Carter of Mars. Coincidence? For those interested, I highly recommend Burroughs' Martian novels.

It is a sad day for me. Curtis Allina, the inventor of the Pez dispenser, has passed away at the tender age of 87 years young. RIP Mr. Pez and long may Pez reign.

For the first time in many years, I will be returning to the theatrical stage. As of noon today, I will be joining the cast of a local vaudeville team and I am really looking for to it. Rehearsals begin Monday evening.

My friends really know how to ring in The New Year. So I was over at the house of some friends, celebrating The New Year with people who I have know since I was a grade schooler. At Midnight after the customary toasts, kisses, and singing of Auld Lang Syne, we went outside to shoot off fireworks (which by the way are illegal to shoot off in the city limits of the Municipality of Anchorage). Things go very well, until about halfway through the show when there is a very bright light on the ground. We all look and see about 50 mortars alight in the rubbermaid tub they were stored in. Apparently one of my friends held up his road flare to see what to shoot off next and a spark fell into the tub. I am happy to report that no one was hurt and it marked the first stupid thing this particular friend has done for 2010. But it was an utterly amazing explosion once we all made it to a safe distance and will be talked of much in the coming year and beyond.

I have a cold sore in the crease of my mouth, which makes talking very painful, since opening my mouth reopens the sore.

Literature. Geek related or not. I think it needs to be touched on since many of the topics discussed on this forum can be traced from a literary source of one kind or another.

DC: The New Frontier, the comic which Justice League: The New Frontier is based on was not published until 2004. Justice League began airing in 2001. So they could not have based the cartoon on a comic that had yet to exist. What they were doing with Justice League was pulling material from over fifty years (The Silver Age began in 1956) worth of comics and adapting it (not always successfully) for a modern cartoon. Case in point: Legends. In the Silver Age, the Justice League made a number of team ups with The Justice Society which was from the Golden Age (referred to as Earth-2. The Justice League was considered to be from Earth-1). The Justice Guild of America from Legends is basically The Justice Society sans Dr. Fate, Hawkman, and Johnny Thunder and with different names. As far as J'onn's feelings of loneliness, if you were the last of your kind, you'd feel alone too. If you had watched your family butchered by an invading army, that would haunt you, just as it does J'onn, which makes A Knight With Shadows a good J'onn episode. He is willing to do anything to get his family and home back. The rest of the League has no idea how J'onn feels, not even Batman. Superman came to Earth as an infant making an Earth upbringing all he has ever known and he has Ma, Pa, and even Kara to be there for him. Diana may have been banished from Themysicra, but at her home still exists. Same for Hawkgirl. She maybe millions of light years away from Thanagar, but it is still there and her people still exist. Batman may have lost his parents, but he still had Alfred, then later Dick, Tim, and Barbara. Flash's family is still around. Green Lantern has the entire Green Lantern Corps to watch his back and he has the people from the old neighborhood who have shared his growing up. J'onn has no one who knows Martian culture, it's language, it's science, it's everything. He even says "Mars is dead". When J'onn's life comes to an end, there will be no Martians left and the memory of his people will be extinguished. So in my humble opinion, J'onn has the right to feel alone in the universe, because he is.

I was merely pointing out that Snapper goes way back in Justice League lore for those who do not know who he is in relation to the Justice League. I was not implying that you were unaware of who Snapper was. As far as the blonde Hippolyta goes, it could be an Earth-1 thing.

- In the Golden Age, Hippolyta, along with the rest of the Amazons, had black hair. In the Silver Age, however, Hippolyta is blonde. I think in one of the many re-boots of the DC comic universe, Hippolyta's hair is changed back to black. Since Diana is sculpted from clay, it does not matter what color her mother's hair is since Diana was not conceived in the usual fashion. - As far as the Wonder Woman armor, they do not bring up the significance of the armor in Paradise Lost. In the beginning of the JLU series, the Hawk and Dove episode, Hephaestus the smith god, mentions that he had made that armor for Hippolyta. In The Balance, Hippolyta unlocks the true power of the armor, just before Diana and Shayera head to Tartarus to put Hades back on the throne. - The "person on our left" line occurs in Legends, where Flash and Black Siren team up to take out Dr. Blizzard. - Snapper Carr is a character from the Silver Age Justice League comics. He is the League junior partner, not unlike Ray Thompson from Legends. Snapper appears in the first Justice League story when the League comes together to fight Starro.
