RSS
"Klytus, I'm bored." And thus begins the epic Flash Gordon film from 1980, starring Sam Jones, Max von Sydow, Melody Anderson, Timothy Dalton, and Brian Blessed. To celebrate the 900th episode and the 11th anniversary of Earth-2.net: The Show, Dan, Dave, Ian, and Mike dissect this cult classic from top to bottom, creating the most frustrated middle manager in the process. Opening theme: "Caffeine" from Vol. 2 of RWBY by Jeff Williams and Casey Lee Williams, featuring Lamar Hall. [ 3:27:28 || 102.2 MB ]

teenalphabro
I haven't started listening yet, but I can tell that it's gonna be good. And if I still liked RWBY, I'd have been way more excited about the music choice.
Missy
The video game I was trying to remember is Vanguard. At the 30 second mark of this video, you'll hear the music from Flash Gordon.

Stavros
Gonna back to back 899 and 900 at work today and honestly I shouldn't be this excited about it. But I am, because it's gonna be great.
Pan-dub
I'm a big fan of Probert's various Bob Newhart-esque imagined conversations thus far!
Stavros
I'm not sure Klytus is fit to work in a school. I hear he's been organising sex-rings.
Stavros
Yeah, this was excellent, especially Probert gathering steam on the inventions bit to the point that it almost killed Dan. A fitting anniversary, fine work gentlemen!
Donomark
Line of the episode for me is from Dan: "[Klytus] died how he lived...wondering to himself 'What the fuck is happening?'"
Stavros
Rewatching the film. It must have been a very long time since I saw it because I remember liking Dale more than Aura. That is not the case anymore. Ornella Muti is stunning.I also know that I saw this film for the first time before I had a real concept of what a movie was vs a TV show or anything else. Specifically I remember being quite traumatised by the execution of Flash. I must have been about 3-4 years old. Mr Mockery
Thank you for the kind words all. To be even tangentially mentioned in the same breath as Bob Newhart is an unexpected compliment. If anyone is interested in reading the Flash Gordon comics Dan mentioned they are currently very cheap on Comixology. I paid 69p per issue and if I remember correctly that should make them $1 each in the US.
Stavros
Sold. Although looking at the art after the episode I was struck by some of the recurring themes re women in comics from that period. The bondage imagery in the film doesn't come out of nowhere. Dan
Here's what I was talking about towards the end. "The Hero" just makes everything better.
Mr Mockery
That's fantastic, brutal but fantastic.
Dan
That's fantastic, brutal but fantastic. It was marketed as "The Wacky Hijinks of Shmaul Shmart, That Other Mall Cop", but Observe and Report was a bitterly dark, angry film. Rjoyadet
Some co-workers got a good laugh when they saw Brian Blessed talk about punching a polar bear.
