  1. I'm going to right ahead and disagree with you there. The tank battle? The chopper battle? The escape from the facility? All of these were magic. Yes the fucking dogs were shit and the giant mucus mushroom cload at the end sucked but I really dug all the Hulk vs Military stuff. I actually dug that in the second one too, Hulk on a rampage is the best thing about these films. I may be getting this wrong as it's all off the top of my head, but the first action scene in a Hulk movie came 50 minutes into the film. Even if you're trying to argue the origins/set-up aspect, Batman Begins had a fight 5 minutes into the film. The escape from the facility isn't really that memorable and whilst I did actually like parts of the chopper battle, those helicopters must be adamantium lined given how they refused to explode. Hulk vs Military was done MUCH better in Incredible Hulk. Maybe its just taste but they captured the running/jumping nature of the Hulk perfectly the first time, and the music free action left you free to be awed by the content instead of the trimmings. Yes the fight leading to and with Blonsky was great but Hulk beating tanks with other tanks was just more fun. Plus not everything explodes when you hit it. It was refreshing to see a vehicle NOT explode in Hollywood, plus it meant Hulk wasn't killing anyone. I agree that it's refreshing to see less explosions in Hollywood but helicopters falling out of the sky should theoretically explode (again though, I don't quite remember the specifics of the chopper battle as it's 4 months since I watched the film). The tank scene and the jumping were fine, although I'm not sure I consider the jumping scenes to be "action", per se. No, I know you weren't, but I brought it up to emphasise my point. A film about the Hulk should not be leaving action scenes that far down the line - it needed better integration rather than build up, and build up, and build up until finally we see.....Hulk beat up some exploding mutant dogs. In a scene that was intended to last even longer than it did.

  3. Do you like Huey Lewis & The News? The only reason I want the staff page up is so that people can see Adham's profile pic and then post in amazement.
  4. If I could be serious for a minute.... - The Ang Lee Hulk film would be great if the action scenes weren't so god awful. Piss-poor action, otherwise no real complaints - The requel element soured me on Incredible Hulk before I even saw it, but you've got to give it props for everything it set out to accomplish. I'll buy the DVD, if only because the theatrical cut really hurt Banner's development. The action and effects were leaps and bounds ahead of the 2003 film and the story was pretty good, although like Stavros, I wasn't emotionally invested in the final fight in the way I should've been. - Iron Man is better than both films.

So, how about that Nickelback, eh? Actually, I'm on a bit of a Run-DMC kick at the moment after watching a friend sing "It's Tricky" on youTube.
  6. And I've got to stop drinking during internet time.....
  7. I hear a famous sage voiced his words of wisdom about both Hulk films on Episode 235 of this site's podcast namesake. He pontificated over the superior storytelling and acting of the initial film, whilst recognising that the effects of the secondary film outshone its predecessor and that the action scenes similarly failed to "suck" as hard as the previous effort of 2003. Alas, only Tim Roth emerged with universal praise for his work and the acting talents of Jennifer Connolly left Liv Tyler looking circumspect by a lack of comparable talent. Verily, the sage concluded that both visions were decent, yet flawed at the same time. Here endeth the lesson.
  8. Mike's love of my country's flag might explain why my early columns had the Union Jack as a staple part of the banner artwork.... Fun stuff, gents.

    Episode 60

Having scoured the internet and called my friend for confirmation, it was actually the Gamecube update. Bit odd that I'd find it hard as I was in the minority of people that really liked the Gamecube/N64 controls, but I really couldn't move about for love or money.

Dubs Media!! Will edit in thoughts accordingly. - The Nickelback tease was awesome! - Freddy vs Jason wasn't a critical success? What's not to love about Kreuger bouncing Voorhees around a facility like a pinball?!? Or the acting of Kelly Rowland?!? - Despite my indie leanings, I quite like Stone Sour. - What was that about the Gamecube?!? I think my dormant Nintendo fanboyism has just awoken..... - Why would horror games be third person at all? I tried playing Resident Evil on a friend's XBox and the controls were god-awful. - I miss Dubs Media already... - Bah, I thought the Horror Mall advert would be Dubs doing a Canadian accent! Actually I didn't, but it's weird hearing Des for the first time with about 10 minutes of the show left to go. - Yikes, haven't dropped any feedback for the last two shows. Methinks I should email. Good stuff! Am loving the variation of the past few shows!
  11. My collection begins and ends with Watchmen.....as that's the only thing I've evr bought from a comic store. But I did get an America's Best Comics primer for buying it as well as owning some Asterix and Simpsons compilations from my youth. But yeah, Watchmen.

I blame Mike for putting Trust at the end of the Batman review we did. It got under my skin....
  13. Christ, I hope your brother's OK Kellen. He's in my thoughts (as opposed to prayers, as I don't).

  15. I'm talking about the actual look of him DW I'm basing this off of the 1994 cartoon because that's the only Iron Man exposure I've had so in my opinion Howard looks more the part then Cheadle. Plus War Machine has the deep voice and I doubt cheadle can do a deep voice. I'm not sure if Howard could but still It shoulda been Howard. Are we not splitting hairs when we're worried that an Oscar-nominated actor can't pull off a deep voice? For better or worse, characters get re-cast in CBM sequels and twas ever thus.
  16. Barack Obama = Stand-Up comedian Just under 6 minutes in, he reveals his Kryptonian lineage! McCain's isn't bad either
  17. PC partisanship eh? As has been mentioned before, I love my iPod and iTunes is perfect for that MP3 player. That said, I like Windows Media Player better for simply playing music off my computer (as it will play specific albums or genres) and I can find my way around a PC easier than I can with a Mac. Even with my new computer coming with Vista, I've pretty much worked that out by now. I think I'll vote for both, as that seems to be the way the poll's been set up!
  18. In the words of Vince McMahon, don't cross the boss.
  19. Mike: He, of course, turns out to be a bit of a cunt and.... <laughs> Des: It's ok, we're reviewing a Vertigo book.... Awesome!!
  20. I voted for Mayor Hill. Even though he's probably less incompetent that The Mayor of Townsville, which is what the poll asks, he's everything that makes a politcian look like a douche. I bet the school was named during Hill's tenure as mayor as a lasting tribute to himself, because as you say, he has no other reason for a legacy in that he presided over some of Gotham's darkest days. The other mayor wins by default, if only because it reminds me of every opening narration to a Powerpuff Girls episode. For whatever reason "The City of Townsville" cracks me up every time. Good ep, gents, and yes, I did purposefully co-ordinate the timelines so that OHMSS was reviewed directly before George Lazenby's DCAU debut. DCAUFan: He does deepen the last line, although it's not 100% in old Batman tones as Bruce has to keep up appearances in front of Terry's mum.
  21. Branagh's involved, it seems - he's pulled out of a commitment to direct Jude Law in Hamlet in London for Thor: The BBC never lies....
  22. This one & The Oratory is pretty much all.
  23. James's life is getting better!! Suavestar, quick, get some cake!! Oh, and Morgan Freeman said "Motherfucker" in Wanted, Doomsday. That's good enough for me!
  24. And Thunderbirds. Talk about raping my childhood...... :grumble:

    Doctor Who/Batman

Heck, if Bruce Wayne were a timelord, it could give a (bad) explanation of why he's played by different actors in all the films. As Adham said in FYEO #1 (SHILL!), James Bond has been thought of by some as a timelord just because the entire series gives little regard to casting continuity as a whole. On topic though, if there ever was a Batman/Dr Who cross-over, expectations would be very, very high indeed.
