  1. If you download the script, you'll see that there's more than a bit of ad-libbing on Ledger's part. I think people declaring the awards for Ledger may be overstating things due to his untimely demise (because people have been yelling that since seeing the flipping trailers before TDK was even released), but saying the performance was nothing special is a tad unfair. Arguably, you could say that Oldman and Eckhart are good rivals for Ledger in the Best Supporting nomination, but part of the awards decision-making process seems to take into account the buzz generated by a person in the role. Both men I've mentioned were excellent in their roles, but they've been overshadowed by Ledger. Not to the extent where they've been hugely overlooked or underrated for their work, but TDK is always going to synomynous with Ledger in the way Brandon Lee is with The Crow. EDIT: (Bah, late to the punch).
  2. I'm behind on Season #5, but I echo the adulation for House. It does help that he's played by Hugh Laurie, naturally. What happened to the relatively clever episode titles of BTAS and STAS? Whilst I know not all of them were subtle, most of them implied the theme of the episode without being too overt (ie/ World's Finest is a clear reference to the old DC team-up comic between Bats & Supes). Calling something "Terry's Friend Dates a Robot" or ending an episode title with an exclamation mark, like "Rats!", aren't just direct but appear to be portents of doom.
  3. I managed to pass the actual exam back when I was 10, which led to the meeting with Adham, and the rest is history. ........damn exam. The one anomaly was the last question, which I ran out of time for.

    Christmas lists

The Dark Knight & Incredible Hulk on DVD Sgt Pepper's etc, and a Bob Dylan compilation Also, the insurance company are getting onto my iPod situation, so hopefully I'll have a replacement iPod Classic as well. Using my brother's old Mini is just getting repetetive at this point.
  5. Can't say much more than those above me; really sorry to hear that, Des.
  6. But hey, at least you're good at sport! 'You' being Australia, rather than specifically 'you' Max Power. Can't add much more except that this decision is ridiculous. Hentai involving young characters is distasteful, but if the characters are fictional, there isn't the same sense of exploitation. At all. The idea that owning hentai makes you more likely to be a paedophile, or fuel demand for child pornography is at best a stretch, and at worst a terrible judgment upon internet users by the older generation whose lack of knowledge is now leading to needles criminal charges. Let's not forget outgoing Alaskan senator and convicted felon Ted Stevens, who, in his capacity as Head of the Senate Commerce Commitee, which regulates the internet, described hyperspace of being "a series of tubes".
  7. Yeah, to date Watchmen is the only comic book collection I own. Partially to swot up for the movie release, but it was WELL worth the money.
  8. I know I'm waiting for The Cable Guy's Brother, starring Dane Cook....
  9. I think all was lost when they made Son of the Mask. That's the closest I will get to Tranquil Tirades, and it happens to be the next audio seg I'm working on!
  10. It's quite a bump, but the word is that Ace Ventura Jnr. just isn't quite good enough to hit cinemas, thus it's going straight to DVD. On the basis of THIS link, who here would give it a spin? Anyone? No? Damn, I wish there was a staff writer on the site who had a special column dedicated to truly horrible pieces of "film-making". Alas....

    Episode 67

I saw a horrific film set in Wales once. I think it was called something like "Torched Wood".... Props once more, especially with the new sponsor. I actually picked up The Doors' Strange Days as a free newspaper giveaway, and you definitely picked the highlight of that LP imo, Des. Oh and you busted Rob Zombie there. I still have major psychological gripes with the Devil's Rejects so I'm inclined not to like the guy.
  12. OH! I figured it out. Duh! Just be far less complimentary next time around. In fact, as long as you vehmently discuss your hatred of certain things for as long as they are around I'll willingly mix together all the samples to put that segment monkey back in his place. I'd do the same for you Stavros, naturally, although John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman saved me the trouble! Curse you Ian! How dare you point out the verbal tongue lashing I recieved from an internationally known comedic personality...and John Oliver. Thats it, Mike you get that tattoo and make sure the human being shot is Ian. There are SO many reasons why Mike shouldn't get body art that involves images of me.

  14. Don't get me wrong, I think the first series is the weakest of the lot, but it's the period of history that I studied extensively for my degree so I cannot hate it in any way. Plus you can't argue with Peter Cook or Brian Blessed.
  15. Adham would probably enjoy it, I'm not fussed either way. Put it at the very bottom of your priorities list, Mike.
  16. As a child of the nineties, I was bred on nostalgia (as 90s cartoons were horrible - Captain Planet anyone? James?!?) so I liked pretty much everything on TV, Scooby Doo included. Still, one cartoon from yesteryear that sucked? The Smurfs. I don't care if Dick Dastardly voiced the bad guy, I hated it. Even worse, they were adopted into the UK Pop scene in the mid-90s and my brother, who was only 8 at the time so I suppose that works in his favour, bought both "The Smurfs Go Pop" and the Christmas equivalent. And the Teletubbies album. And LPs of the Spice Girls, who featured on his pyjamas. Of course, I'm not embarrassing my brother for any particular reason. I'm just saying that The Smurfs represent everything I hate and that by Friday, it'll be obvious why I mention my brother in such a tone.
  17. I'd love to see it, but Miller's said stuff like this before. I think it will get made at the end of the day, but Miller might not wait for Rodriguez if too much time passes by methinks.
  18. OH! I figured it out. Duh!
  19. Enjoyable stuff fellas - I intend on clipping part of this show for a future CR segment, in fact! With regards to the announcement at the end, does this mark the change so that each subsequent BOTI episode features two Dr Who episodes, or is this simply a fluid approach depending on how big each story is?
  20. And his production partners are the same people who kicked up such a stink regarding Thunderball, which led to Never Say Never Again. As Bond plots go, it isn't beyond credulity somehow, but it's still pretty daft.
  21. To call something a "Jack Black film," to me at least, he has to be a major lead. School of Rock is a Jack Black film, so is Nacho Libre and Kung Fu Panda. The Jackal is a Bruce Willis / Richard Gere movie, and Enemy of the State is a Will Smith film. I can see you point but jack black did have a essential role in the storyline of The Jackal When I saw Enemy Of The State I had to actually do a double take to even see if it was jack black. I think "essential" is overstating his role in that film.
  22. Could someone tell me if that trailer in any way reflects Punisher comic books? The Matrix-style chandalier-spinning? The heartbeat skull symbol? Seriously, I have no idea. And I can't find a UK rlease date for this yet either.
  23. Oooh, the foreshadowing!!! On topic: I don't find Ricky Gervais all that funny. Then again, I've only seen snippets of his work.
