  1. And then she blows up the game with her powers.
  2. The Best of the Spirit - This was a collection published around the time of the movie's release. Unbelievable how good this is. The stories are all well-selected, giving you a good overview of the kind of stories the Spirit featured. I'm in awe of the art and storytelling. If I never looked it up online and saw that by the end, Eisner was using ghost writers and artists, I would've bought that it was Eisner all the way. Comic strips are hard to collect, considering that there's a lot of them, but I need to read more. (It seems that with collections of strips, they assume that this'll be the only thing you collect)
  3. Either I don't really mind him or I can focus on the guest enough. But yeah I don't listen unless it's somebody of particular interest to me.
  4. Pretty straightforward, but it's carried well by Rudd, Lilly and Douglas. I was hoping for full-blown heist music but the score eventually settles to generic Marvel movie fanfare. The end credits music is alright though.
  5. Gen 13 - The original miniseries. Good lord this was tough to read. J. Scott Campbell wasn't the artist he'd become, looking like the midpoint between Liefeld and Lee. Grunge in particular was hard to look at. They had no idea how to write exposition so there's just boxes and boxes of words that slow everything down. I really should just read the later runs of this book. Princess Leia 5 - Sad it's only a limited series. Gonna miss my monthly dose of Waid and the Dodsons' Leia. Wonderful finale. Spider-Woman 6 - Great book. Wonder what's gonna happen post-Secret Wars, but it's great right now.
  6. Archie #1 - Hmm. I liked it, but I'm not sure if I'll follow this monthly. Umbrella Academy - Fun book with some interesting characters, in the writing and visually. More of the latter, but Way shows skill in comic writing right away. Art by Gabriel Ba is great, real Mignola vibe thanks to Dave Stewart's colors. (Who it seems is just as responsible for the Hellboy look as Mignola) I could definitely see this becoming a TV show, and I hope it does. Harley Quinn and Power Girl #1 - Which follows up on my least favorite arc from the Harley series. The sexual jokes got old quick. Art was good though. Superman #41 - Hm. Sons of the Devil #2 - Creepy and engaging. ASM #18.1 - Still solid in writing and art. Spider-Gwen #5 - This universe's Matt Murdock is a jerk. I hope the gap between issues doesn't mess up the flow of the story because this is going well. Star Wars #6 - A good fight between Luke and Boba Fett, though the art was muddled at times. The Han and Leia B-plot was intriguing as well. I have a feeling it can't really go too far with it taking place in between movies, but we'll see.
  7. So that's where they went with the Thing's voice. Uhm...alright then.
  8. I thought that's where they were going with Wells/Thawne but he just ended up a total jerk.
  9. Batgirl #41 - Interested to see where they go with Babs and her dad. Wonder if she'll come clean with her secret identity. Tarr's doing the main art chores this time around and it's pretty good. I dunno if I like it more than when Stewart was doing layouts but it's different. A-Force #2- Still good fun. Art is continuing to surprise me, considering I wasn't the biggest Jorge Molina fan before. Wolverine Enemy of the State - Kickass story. (Heh) Would love to see this adapted in some way. Might be the last great thing JRJR's drawn, if slightly wonky at points.
  10. ...did I just see Peter Capaldi as the Doctor, wearing a pair of shades and playing an electric guitar?
  11. The Flash #41 - Still continuing at a good pace. Feel some influence from the TV show, with the emphasis on Henry Allen that I don't remember there being in the Manapul-Buccellato run. Booth's art is better than it was before. Harley Quinn #17 - Gang of Harleys. So much fun. All the different Harleys are pretty distinct. Art by Hardin continues to be a joy. Sensation Comics #11 - Great story by Elder and Igle. Glad it was a full issue. ASM Renew Your Vows #1 - Huh. Uhh... Huh. I'll reserve judgement on the story. Love the art by Adam Kubert. Captain Marvel and the Carol Corps #1 - Because I figured the best followup to a blonde leading a team named after her is reading about, well, the same. Enjoyable but not as fun as it could have been. Art may have been too muddy. Kit becoming a Thor was really cute though. Princess Leia #4 - I'll be sad to see this one end. Scarlet Spider Volume 3 - Kaine is a delight with how much of a jerk he is. The supporting cast is pretty good, although I don't think they've been fully utilized quite yet. I'm still amazed at the book having three regular artists, even in individual issues. Khoi Pham takes the most of the art chores, and is the one I prefer. Neil Edwards, I can't even tell from Pham. Paulo Siquiera is the most different, and is a bit out of place. Also, The Other storyline is working for Kaine much better than it did for Peter, at least up to now. From what I've heard, it got out of hand soon after this. But we'll see.
  12. Went on an unintended break from single issues. Black Canary #1 - Uhm, yeah. I dunno. I'll just get the trade depending on what I hear. Constantine The Hellblazer #1 - Felt like a good compromise between the Vertigo series and the modern comics, just like the TV show. Which is probably intentional. Starfire #1 - Somewhat fun and it's a lot to read, but the dialogue was just awkward. Art by Lupacchino and McCarthy was gorgeous, very much like the Dodsons. Black Widow #19 - Solid. Hope to see the creative team continue the book after Secret Wars. Haven't heard anything about Black Widow yet. Daredevil #16 - The end of the run is coming along nicely. Ms. Marvel #16 - Great view of how the Secret Wars is affecting the regular people, real sense of peril here. Alphona continues to be a delight with all the little details in the art.
  13. Isn't the 80s,particularly the Shooter-era, considered one of the best decades for Marvel? I'm a modern comics fan and I have two all-time favorites from the 80s, namely Miller-Janson's Daredevil and DeFalco-Frenz's ASM.
  14. Three New Who Big Finish lines announced. The Diary of River Song (which'll also feature Paul McGann) The Churchill Years (him recounting encounters with Nine, Ten and Eleven) and Classic Doctors New Monsters. (Five vs the Weeping Angels, Six vs the Judoon, Seven vs the Sycorax and Eight vs the Sontarans just before the Time War)
  15. Batman Black and White Volume 4 - My favorite of the lot so far. Stories may have been all over the place, but man does it look pretty. Batgirl #1 - One shot from 1997 to ride the coattails of Batman and Robin. Not bad, Babs' characterization was strong. Joker was well-written and drawn. Batman's appearance just left me scratching my head. Worth the two bucks I paid for it.
  16. Tom Holland is Spider-Man, Jon Watts is directing. Okay.
  17. With Kris Anka on art. Hopefully he stays, because Kelly Sue's Cap only became great when David Lopez came on as regular artist. Also I like how they finally went ahead and gave Carol short hair, with all the flip-flopping that happened from artist to artist.
  18. Have a great birthday Dan!
  19. Sandman vol 9 - The Kindly Ones: Could it have been shorter? Probably. Was it better for it being the length that it was? Definitely. One of the best of the entire run. Marc Hempel(and Kevin Nowlan in the short story) join the list of people who could have drawn the whole series.
  20. I'm really of two minds when it comes to this movie. Disliked it as a kid, liked it as a teenager and now I'm back to disliking it. As a fan of Burton and Danny Elfman, this movie saw them become the director and composer that they are today. Great work by the both of them. There's not a single problem with the cast. It has one of the funniest lines in this series, "Bruce Wayne? Why are you dressed up like Batman?" But it's hard to deny that it really is unpleasant. It reminds me of the Elseworlds one-shots, where everything is reimagined almost for the sake of it, and it's very pessimistic. Maybe I've just come to prefer a classic take on Batman, and left the gothic sensibilities in the past.
  21. Big Eyes - Good but not great. Not the better one of Burton's biopics. Adams was good, even if the story being told dictated that she had to be a bit ineffectual for a chunk of the film. Waltz was too cartoony, reminding me of Mark Hamill and not in a way that works for the movie. Krysten Ritter was fun to see, but underused. I did get lost in articles about the subject after seeing it, so I guess that's a good compliment.
  22. They should get the kid who was young Andrew Garfield in Never Let Me Go.
  23. Just saw it, thought it was pretty good. Great action, bit brutal at times but never really went too far with it. A little too many references to the original, with one very meta conversation about it, but whatever.
