  1. And "Babychest" is where we stand watch at the comic shop and physically assault anyone caught trying to pick the book up off the shelf, yes?
  2. What did Roy Thomas say? "The Golden Age of Comics is eight." I was 8 in 1982-3, and this comic pushed that button for me. That's what it felt like. This is a mediocre book - the art was very weak and the writing was uninspired - even in the 80s, DeFalco was at best a journeyman writer. But as a nostalgia book, it worked for me, this one time, because I'm just that right age. If Mike sent me the same book next month, I'd most likely be over it and less inclined to give it a pass. Exactly what I felt. Some of the busier panels were just unintelligible.
  3. Dubs, you are so right on about Pelletier's art on Nova. He's perfect for that book and he does a beautiful job.
  4. You know what I was thinking Iron Fist needs? A baby strapped to his chest.
  5. Eww. Ewwwwww. "Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, Princess!" still, to this day, haunts my waking dreams.
  6. Was that the Phillips CDI one? Oh, you poor bastard.

    The 'Duh' thread

I took my son to see Superhero Movie. Seriously, don't do that.
  8. I don't recall them saying it outright, but I assumed that was who he was meant to be.
  9. So do we get to pry his rifle away now? Sorry. Too soon.
  10. Tell him there's a fly buzzing around his head Yes, yes it is. Can you even begin to imagine how fucked up and weird the Japanese version of Cube would be?
  11. Rollins + The Shat + Puppets = three minutes of solid crankiness.
  12. Is it strange that I'm honestly not bothered by this in the least? There's been grim and angry Batman for the last thirty-something years. There's buckets of it. I don't mind something a little lighter, especially if it appeals to kids. Also, there's nothing in there that says the humor can't come primarily from the guest stars and supporting cast. I can't think of the name of the episode, but the JLU in which Wonder Woman is turned into a pig comes to mind. Batman wasn't slipping on banana peels or wiping pie of his face, but that was a fairly lighthearted story that ended with Kevin Conroy warbling "Am I Blue" and overall worked pretty well.
  13. You suggested there might have been a few punches thrown, now that Mxy had something Supes could hit.
  14. Finally got a chance to listen... This was always my reading, too. After all the build-up of the battlesuit (which has, of course, a fly), which was so long that it went from being funny to being overdone all the way back to funny again, Mxy cackles with glee at finally having the upper hand, and is gone for all of three seconds before he returns. He's barely gone long enough to say his name backwards, let alone anything resembling a fight. And, IMO, it's much, much funnier that way.
  15. I am loving this series. Well done, sir. Man, that first year or so had some truly goofy stuff in it. (Thing as Blackbeard! Simultaneously the awesomest and dumbest thing ever!)
  16. Avi Arad? Dan Buckley? Damn it man, give me something. Someone has to be the personification of the comic industry's willingness to take a fanboy, hold him upside down, and shake him till all his money falls out.
  17. Don't ever let it be said that you weren't accomodating.
  18. I swear, one day I'm gonna slip a dig at Quesada by him.
  19. That... was... AWESOME.
  20. I didn't actually dislike the issue of Omega I did last month. I would be more than willing to look at the trade once it comes out and judge it on its own merits. However, as a single issue it was confusing and weird, especially with the utter refusal by Marvel, or the writer, or whoever, to have a recap page. A recap page would make a lot of complaints go away. And Chaykin used to be really, really exciting. Now everything he draws is a mess. I actually feel exactly the same way about Frank Miller, and that's who Chaykin's art in this book reminds me of - in a not at all good way.
  21. I went to the comic shop this weekend and got me a heaping helping of Joss Whedon; I have something like eight back issues of Astonishing X-Men, as well as Serenity. Good stuff.
  22. Here's a reprint of a story in a September 1971 issue of Rolling Stone; I thought this is pretty interesting. I very much doubt you'd get to see a glimpse like this nowadays.
