  1. Whilst I'd prefer Maguire to stay on, Fugit bears a passing resemblance to him and I wouldn't mind him being the replacement on that basis. Remains to be seen if he has the acting chops though.
  2. Dear Lord, what a horrible list. I agree with maybe two of those choices, but Obadiah Stane?!?! And there are FAR worse CBM villains than Bullseye. This guy clearly hasn't seen Ghost Rider for one thing.....
  3. Do producers not meet with Ratner and say "....but didn't you make a bad X-Men movie?" And how many "Movie #4's" have been a patch on the original series?
  4. I guess you may have misunderstood me a little bit. I wouldn't think it'd be a good idea to analyze every little bit of the film, you're right, it'd be long and lengthy. I just think having more of your thoughts and analysis and less of the "Then Bond did this...and then this happened..." summary might strengthen the podcast. Just so you understand my thought process, in the first show, you already preface that there are spoilers galore and that people should have already seen the films, so if they already have seen the films, they don't really need you telling them what happens as much as you do. That last line right there is a very good summary of your thoughts - if we are spoiling it slightly, then there probably isn't the need to be quite so summary-based. Then again, I've been mindful that some of the regular guys on the forums are either a bit hazy in such films, haven't seen them or aren't especially fans of the franchise, which is where the scene-by-scene summary comes in. I guess you give credit where credit is due. Ha! Totally didn't mean it like that. I always have this problem when I start listening to podcasts doesn't matter the origin of the hosts. Or maybe your personalities seem alike and that's why you sound alike. I don't know. Heh, I was messing with you! Don't fret about it. Yeah, I just wanted to give feedback. If the majority like how you do the shows, Fuck me, not literally, and just keep being awesome. Although, I have a feeling that it's just growing pains and your shows will become tighter as the series go along. Sweetness. Good luck. As for discussing the movie itself, the death toll, completely disagree with you on the three blind mice in the cars. While I don't quite feel that it is a direct kill, it is indirect consequence of Bond outsmarting/outmaneuvering them in the car chase. The scene with Dent is one of the best in the film because it is the first time where Bond shows real darkness and cruelty. Also totally didn't catch the Bond could think that Honey Ryder put the spider on his bed idea, I actually think it would have been more tense if they never showed us Dr. No/Dent scene with the spider and would have teased Ryder's double-agent status more. Dr. No isn't a bad film and really there was a lot to like, the down-to-earth nature, the noir-ish spy elements, the murder mystery, but the movie does move a little slow and when it finally reaches Dr. No's lair, it kind of devolves into an over the top Bond movie. - We're going to have to agree to disagree on the Three Blind Mice/Men. Sure, Bond outmaneuvred them, but he hardly rammed them/drove them off the cliff. He avoided the crane which left the hearse with a choice: crash (non-fatally) or swerve, either into the mountain and crash (again non-fatally) or off the path, which they did so. Bond avoided a catastrophe, the killers didn't. - Agree about Dent's scene. Connery basically had to bring all sides of Bond's persona to the role in one film, and this showed his emotionless killing side well. - Even though the two spiders referred to here were different species, the normal film-goer wouldn't know the difference and until Adham pointed the difference out to me, I thought about the Ryder possibility a bit more. But yes, the Dent/No scene negates the idea. - I'd say it's a good film as a franchise starter, although you're definately right that the pace can be a tad glacial and the end lair is a bit OTT. That said, as end battles go, it could have got way more far-fetched. I mean, think of Moore's first final villain showdown in Live and Let Die... As I say, thanks muchly for the response - it's good to have a discussion about what we've inflicted on the nation!
  5. Hey there, thanks for the feedback! It's a fair comment. There are still kinks to work out, as that was our first show, but if we were going to analyse every little bit of a near-2 hour long film, this podcast would last longer than people would care to listen and longer than we could be arsed to record, probably. If there's something worth analysing, we'll do our best to mention it and try not make it every 10 minutes of the film's running time so that it isn't disjointed, but some films don't lend themselves to deep analysis (you'll notice we mentioned Moonraker once or twice....). That's why Adham is my co-host! You racist!! I'll do my best to keep this in mind for future shows. Adham and I happen to be recording this very weekend for June 13th, when we'll be covering From Russia With Love. With any luck, it'll be bigger, better and have more jokes!
  6. For some reason, it read shorter than what I thought it was, length-wise. Ah well. Cheers for t'feedback!
  7. Atten-BORO?!?!? I can't let that mispronunciation slide. Pistols at dawn, Sims!!! Will edit in any other thoughts.
  8. And this will keep me in an internet job for years to come! Still not *that* stoked about this film, but I'll stop saying that until I get to my review because I'm starting to sound like a broken record.
  9. Sorry about the above, I thought you'd linked to the 5 second review, which definately is NSFW. Batman & Robin is NSFW
  10. Whilst I couldn't really participate in Overrated comic creator, it'd at least provide a lot of discussion. Something I could vote in? Erm, is best comic villain too like the bad-ass tourney?
  11. Ian, another great segment, but unless I'm mistaken, it's X-Men Origins. Not X-Men Originals. Cobra Commander is the Third Rock kid...? I had no idea! Origins, Originals, potato, poh-tah-toe. I do stumble on words at times, although this wasn't nearly my worst (and I know that's not why it's being pointed out). At one point of a CR review (I *think* for TMNT, but I really don't remember) I mispronounced the word "niggles" for....well, a racial slur, let's say. If you listen to a past review of mine and hear a clearly re-recorded "niggles", think that the jarred shoehorning of a word into a review is much better than how the original cut would've sounded..... In fact, I say "Southern Hick racists" when I meant to say "rapists". In that they didn't actually do anything, neither is technically true but there was attempted rape rather than attempted mispronouncing the word "niggle" Away from me, sucks about the conference. I don't tend to go to them, especially as they're not really on my doorstep, but I can imagine that being horribly frustrating.
  12. Great review, James. Were it out in Britain yet, I'd be buying it! Well, my brother would and I'd play it with him.
  13. Many thanks! Not just for the feedback, but also for that swanky banner! I did a double-take when reading through the article on the main page though as GLBT has always been LGBT over here in Blighty. Eh, chalk it up as another difference between our two nations. Whilst this is true, I made sure I didn't overstate this in the column. 'X-Men' wouldn't have failed if they'd got, say, Eric Roberts to play Magneto because you still have the cool Mystique role or Hugh Jackman breaking out, blades and all (not to mention Anna Paquin for me!). That said, so-so business does equal a franchise and I fear that if you didn't have that last image of McKellen watching Stewart leave his plastic cell in his somewhat pimping plastic wheelchair, X2 might never have happened. Richard III is a truly awesome film interpretation of a Shakespeare play. And whilst I've watched The Shadow before, it hasn't been for years and I really only remember Alec Baldwin laughing like a maniac and Tim Curry running away from him.
  14. Short and sweet. Well, more bitter than sweet but it's cool to hear just how badly the Street Fighter mythos can be mangled by both East & West!! Anyone would think that producers and studio chiefs in general are out of touch with what's entertaining and has mass appeal....

    Episode 38

Llamas or none, Dubs has found his niche on Dread Media. Perfectly balanced out what's already a great episode. Des, Lansdale aside, this is probably my favourite of the interviews you've done so far. It's just very interesting listening to a guy following his dream and taking the listeners through the process of making this film that he's really wanted to make. Great stuff.
  16. That's quite right, although we won't get round to doing this until we have all the official films under our belt We'll be doing a lookback at each Bond individually after covering all of their films and possibly comparing them all at the end of the official run. Connery, at the moment, is the most consistent Bond for me but some films see his successors have better performances than him in some instances (ie/ Brosnan in Goldeneye).
  17. Mrs Doubtfire = Best Harry Potter: Secrets = Favourite. Much darker than the first film, disguised Radcliffe's wooden acting better and Kenneth M'Fn Branagh OWNS the film as Prof. Lockhart.
  18. God-Damn, that was funny! As much as I enjoy the dripping with sarcasm duologue reviews with Dubs, this is the Tirades at its best for me.
  19. Great news - an email!!! Turns out it's iTunes publicising our Podcast page, but still very exciting! Thanks for the feedback left so far! Particularly glad that we met with Dubs's seal of approval, given that he's not a fan of the series. Hopefully Adham & I will be able to compel everyone to check out each of the films at some point, even the dirge!
  20. Thanks for the kind words! Sexual tension just comes with recording together, I guess... Oh, and me drinking along with the movie number *SOUNDS* great, but in practise I'd probably forget half the movie!!
  21. Don't forget to job out Cody Harlan. Wait for the summer. It will be a beautiful, beautiful thing to behold. You know, I love you guys. I really do. But sometimes it's like you're speaking another language... Behold I am the Dream Weaver who weaves dreams yadda yadda.
