Koete
And Steve Ditko doesn't love you anymore, he's heartbroken that you would say such things.
Molly
*bump'd* I'll readily admit that Kirby is awesome, I just think that Ditko has as much to do with modern comics, if not more.
Missy
Steve Ditko was an awesomely influential artist, no doubt. But Kirby trumps him.
Missy
It's time for me to go to bed, so I'll allow the west coast Canadian to take it from here.
Molly
I'm biased, because the things that Ditko drew actually looked good. Kirby was the master of panel to panel story telling, but some of his art was downright ugly.
Molly
And I think this completely invalidates my "Des = My hero" statement from earlier.
Koete
Kirby is definitely numero uno, but Ditko's number one in my book, so I give him his props whenever I can.
Molly
Kirby is the penultimate storyteller in comics, I can't deny that. But Ditko is a better artist.
KnightWing
Kirby gave me Darkseid. That's all I care about.
Molly
When I really compare characters created, it gets rough. Ditko gave me Spidey, The Question and the Creeper. Kirby gave me Mr. Miracle, the Thing and Darkseid.

Koete
Since comics are a combination of words and pictures, Lee and Ditko co-created Spider-Man, not to mention Ditko's stint as plotter in the later issues of the collaboration. Koete
Bullshit. All Stan did was give Ditko a plot and he had to create a 21 page story out of it. Think of all the character designs and villain costumes that Ditko came up with, most of which lasted for decades and have become iconic to the characters. Eventually, Ditko did the plotting and the drawing of the stories. He had as much to do with shaping Spider-Man's universe as Stan Lee did. If I'm not mistaken, though, the entire concept of the character of Peter Parker, including his personality and powers, were created by Lee. Though that may just be Lee talking his work up a little too much; I don't know.
Koete
Compare the stories with art by Ditko with those with art by John Romita Sr. There's a clear tonal difference between them, with Romita Sr.'s skewing more towards soap opera in fitting with his style. Just look at Gwen Stacy. In Ditko's stories, she was determined, confidant, and a bit of a bitch. The Romita Sr. Gwen became much more doting and emotional, almost a complete 180 from how she was originally portrayed. The artist has as much influence on the story as the words of the writer do. KnightWing
Alright, well, I'm by no means an expert on the specifics of that, so I'll trust you on this one.
Dread
If you actually look into it, Kirby had as much or more to do with the creation of Spider-Man than Lee did. In an upcoming King and I. I'm going investigative peeps!
Koete
I know Kirby did the cover to AF #15 and a few pages of the first story before Lee decided his style didn't fit with what he was going for. So they should really credit Spider-Man as a Lee/Kirby/Ditko creation.
