  1. And that would be a very polite version of my review of the Bible.
  2. Well said. For me, the series was a very pleasant surprise and even though I'm not as big a fan of the Silver Age as others, I am gonna miss it. I gonna piggy-back off of something you did in the Smallville thread and suggest posting our favorite things about the show. Here are mine: Favorite Characters 5. Bat-Mite 4. The Spectre 3. Superdick (i.e. Superman under the influence of red kryptonite) 2. Batman 1. Aquaman Favorite Episodes 5. "The Malicious Mr. Mind" 4. "Mitefall" 3. "Siege of Starro" 2. "Battle of the Superheroes" 1. "Chill of the Night" For now, I'm abstaining from a "Favorite Moments" list, as there are too many to name.
  3. I gotta agree. I was really pleasantly surprised at how strong this series' opener was and am really looking forward to seeing where the show goes from here. I wasn't crazy about the CGI at first but it slowly grew on me.
  4. Oh nos! That SHIELD book has fallen into the wrong hands!: http://collider.com/universal-leonardo-da-vinci-movie/125297/?_r=true
  5. Funny that you should post this now. I bought the first trade on Monday but haven't gotten the opportunity to read it yet.
  6. Sir, you are expecting too much from Purvis and Wade.
  7. Fantastic Four: The Master of Doom: The very first Fantastic Four book I've ever read and--for me, at least--an extremely engaging and surprisingly quick read. The Master of Doom portion did drag a bit, but the final scene makes up for it somewhat. The Hitch's art is a bit off and over-inked at times, and its pretty clear when Stuart Immonen has stepped in, but on the whole I liked it and I think is one of the better things written by Millar. Ultimate Spider-Man, Vol. 1-6 (#1-39): Decided to start going through the whole run after listening to the edition of Grumpy Old Fans covering #160 and also to see if the first few volumes held up from when I read them years before. At first, I was somewhat ho-hum about the series as a whole but was hooked by the time I finished the "Public Scrutiny" storyline (Volume 5) and was similarly impressed by the Venom one that followed it, despite being slightly rushed. Bendis is very good at crafting storylines that one could pick up without reading the previous volumes yet which also contained foreshadowing for future stories (the best example being the way that Peter confronts the impostor Spider-Man, which is nice foreshadowing for the debut of the Venom symbiote in the storyline that follows). Bagley isn't my favorite artist of all time, but think his work here was extremely fluid and consistent throughout. My main gripe with his work here is that a lot of the issue covers are just of Spider-Man in iconic poses and very rarely does one tell an actual story. I'll definitely continue to pick up the trades up to #160 after going through these first six. Trade paperbacks: 17
  8. Watched the two Fantastic Four movies (the ones from the 2000s; not touching the 1994 one). Overall wasn't impressed despite going in with low expectations, though I will say that Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis were great as the Torch and the Thing. Ioan Gruffudd's Reed is one of the worst instances of a Brit playing an American that I've ever seen (that's also the case with his performance as Mr. Miracle in JLU), while Alba's Sue looks nothing like Evans' Johnny, and Julien McMahon's delivery as Doom resembled that of Dr. Evil.
  9. Listened to the Batman: Year One review the other day. Great review, but I have to ask: Why no score?
  10. To be fair, 2D animated characters in DC animation don't really have texture either; they're just flat color with shading, exactly like this new CG stuff. As long as the movement and color are exciting, I'm all for this. Yes, but 2D animated characters would have looked just as good in that scene, if not better. Is there a purpose for them being 3D other than to make this show stand out from the others?
  11. Great episodes guys! I've already listened to it twice.
  12. Not impressed. Why make your characters computer-generated when you don't have the money or can't be arse enough to give them texture? That said, I'll still give it a shot since I'm a big fan of Timm and of Josh Keaton.
  13. Blue Velvet: The first time I've ever seen this film or anything by David Lynch. I thought it great but probably won't see it again for a while since the scenes with Dennis Hopper are so disturbing.
  14. Especially All-Star Superman. We had a very animated discussion of it when it came out that you never participated in.
  15. Amen. Batman looks terrible in the shot where he's about to punch Bane in the face.
  16. I actually agree with Will that David Bowie would make a kick-ass Joker in live action "Dark Knight Returns". As for your review, I really enjoyed it despite the fact that I've never seen Labyrinth before and despite the fact that I am not the target audience of your segment.
  17. Just watched the most recent episode, "Revelations". Make sure you've seen all the previous episodes before seeing this one.
  18. Do bear in mind that Whedon has only ever directed one theatrically-released movie. It does look fantastic, though.
  19. Amen. Doing tirades on video games and music would be stepping on the toes of Extra Lives and Dropped D, where I'm sure the hosts will be covering terrible stuff every once and while for shits and giggles anyway.
  20. Out of curiosity, has that been the case since the "Public Enemies" storyline or does that precede the Superman/Batman line?
  21. For emergencies and protection, maybe, but the show description makes it seem like Alfred will be out in the field wielding pistols and Bruce allowing him to do that just seems wrong to me, especially since he barely tolerates other vigilantes in Gotham, let alone ones with guns. Hopefully that won't be the case and they just dropped that into the description as a selling point.
