  1. Yeah, this could actually work... the story is divided into enough self-contained chapters that you could lop off a great deal of the sidetracks without losing any of the main plot. There aren't a ton of lead characters to introduce and flesh out, either, so they could really get into the kind of characterization that a story like this needs.
  2. Haha, thanks, glad to be a part of the fold. As I told Yoda, I had a blast doing my write-ups for this week, and I really enjoyed reading the final collaborative effort.
  3. I haven't played it yet, and was judging from what they showcased in the HD trailer I downloaded from Xbox Live a couple weeks ago. It paled in comparison to the Madden game EA brought out at the 360's launch... looks like they're running on a flat field with a simple grass texture painted over it, almost all of the player animations are exactly the same as they were for 2k5, and the collision detection looked jumpy, far from realistic. Plus, I think they went overboard with the themed stadiums (WTF is the deal with the seven-story phoenix sculpture in the stands?!) and the team colors are garish at best. I realize you can't use the exact same colors as the NFL, but that doesn't mean you have to dive straight into the hideous red, yellow and white McDonald's colors or the aquas, purples and oranges. Maybe that was from a pre-release version of the game and they upped the stakes significantly in the couple weeks between that trailer and the game's final release, but I have trouble believing that.
  4. I didn't realize All Pro 2k8 had already come out. I really wanted to like the prospect of it, but the lack of franchise mode, the goofy legends theme and the weak graphics have turned me off to it. Personally, I'm chugging through Guitar Hero II, along with a few random XBLA games.

    Nerd Moments

Yeah, but did you notice they were all fakes? There was something minor about each sword that was "off," which was supposed to imply that they were all phonies and he didn't know any better. When he wields Cloud's Buster Sword, for instance, there's a huge kanji character painted on the blade that translates to "imitation." The second battle with him was tough as hell, regardless.
  6. Odd that they identify her primary claim to fame as being in Fight Club, when her role in that movie was as "Group Leader. I guess that means she was the head of one of the support groups, since I don't recall any female members of the Fight Club group.

I'm already up in there, although after the rise and fall of Twitter I'm leery of these services. I'll gladly add you as a friend, though...

    Metal Gear Solid 2

Yeah, I thought the first level was just breathtaking. Raiden took a lot of unnecessary flack for replacing Snake in the lead role, when I think a lot more of the blame should've gone to the monotonous level designs for his portion of the game. All in all, it's a very solid game that just suffers from the inevitable let-down of following up one of the greatest games ever published.
  9. Hm, I didn't know that about it. Makes it even more interesting now...
  10. Patton also came out with an album called Peeping Tom in the last year or so, which I dug.
  11. The second disc of The Cure's rerelease of "Three Imaginary Boys."
  12. I've been working my way through "Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner" for a good long while now. It's an interesting look at the pains that crew went to to create such an immersive world on film.
  13. Man, I couldn't disagree more about the art. I've been loving Yu's run on New Avengers.
  14. Well, I don't agree with the rankings, but I know most of these are based off of underground /indie comics or manga. -Virus was a 1995 Dark Horse comic. -Bulletproof Monk was written and illustrated by Michael Avon Oeming, although I've never seen it and I have no idea who published it. -Appleseed was a huge manga series by Shirow Masamune, not sure how you hadn't heard of that one. -Tales from the Crypt was a legendary line of EC Comics. Creepshow was a direct homage to that same line. -Ethan Green was a comic strip, although I'd never heard of it before. -Art School Confidential was a series of shorts by Daniel Clowes, who also did Ghost World. I thought the movie blew, though. -Azumi, Uzumaki, Ichi the Killer, The Princess Blade, Oldboy and Metropolis were all based off of mangas that I'd never stumbled across. -Timecop was a Dark Horse series. -The Addams Family began life as a comic strip. -Heavy Metal is a legendary series of magazines focusing on comic strips and sci-fi. -Ghost in the Shell is a massive manga, again by Shirow Masamune, which is popular both in America and Japan. -Barbarella was an ancient series of comics that I'd never heard of until just now. -If you've never heard of Akira, you've never read manga. -Over the Hedge is an ongoing comic strip, currently syndicated around the country. -Men in Black also began life as a comic book. Some of those are a little more vague than others, but I'm really surprised you'd never heard of some of them. You should really look into buying some collections of Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Heavy Metal, Appleseed and the old EC Comics stuff.
  15. I just stumbled upon this, and I think I'd be hard-pressed to find a worse listing, top to bottom. Thoughts? http://www.rottentomatoes.com/features/special/2007/comic/

  17. That does look tight. Maybe I'll have to check this one out...
  18. The texts didn't arrive at their destination(s) until the next morning, since the provider's network was having technical problems. I'm sure we've all double posted once or twice when a particular set of forums aren't running at optimal speed, and we're usually just commenting on something of minimal importance in the grand scheme. Benoit was sending instructions about how to find his family's bodies. Incidentally, this week's F4W revealed that the two co-workers the text messages were sent to were Chavo Guerrero and William Regal. An earlier post of the transcripts on WWE.com included the initials "C, S:" at the beginning of the first message. The "S" was presumably Regal, as everybody backstage still calls him Steven from his WCW days. Explains a lot about why Regal didn't want to comment on the man outside of his work in the ring during the tribute.
  19. It's been three years, and he hasn't taken over the world yet? Kid. Stop slacking.
  20. The last twelve hours have just been gut-wrenching.
  21. What's the deal with the fruity little circle of jewels on his shirt? I guess maybe that's "keeping him alive" until he can get into the armor?
  22. You have to admit, this story has generated considerable buzz for this game before its launch - much more than it would've otherwise enjoyed, especially considering how the original underachieved. It's also only being released on PS2, Wii and PSP, so a lot of gamers wouldn't give it a second glance next to the latest PS3 and 360 titles otherwise.
  23. I'm still cautiously optimistic. After seeing 300 faithfully reproduce source material on-screen with some necessary tweaks, I've got my fingers crossed that the same can be done for Watchmen.
  24. Nicely done! Good to know that it is possible after all...
  25. Yeah, the quicksaves are a bunch of crap. As soon as it's saved, it does the handy "the system will now shut down" thing that so many DS apps seem to love and when you load it, the quicksave disintegrates. You're stuck using your last "real" save if you die. It's very nearly pointless. I can understand why it's there, but it's just... awful. Ribbons are an accessory with very good stats, and the handy ability to negate all status effects. So the frog status just never happens to the characters who are wearing them.
