Final Crisis #2 = best single issue of 2008 so far

I love that version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Leif Garrett and The Melvins. I remember hearing that on a college radio station ages ago, and liking it better than the original.

on the topic of the new NIN, I would have to agree with you that i didn't really enjoy "Year Zero" much at all. "With Teeth" on the other hand, i really enjoyed but it seems that the general consensus would be switched on those 2 releases. I still haven't heard "The Slip" because it hasn't been released yet, but i did enjoy that instrumental release "Ghosts" that they put out earlier this year. In contrast to you though, my favorite NIN album is "Pretty Hate Machine". You did bring up a point that i think is true of too much music today which is that people don't really put albums out anymore but collections of songs (and what seems like unfinished material at that). It seems like more and more bands just get to the demo process and just say "fuck it, people are just going to download this stuff anyway! let's just release this", and as the great Mike Patton once said "demos are demos for a reason". I find this really irriating and is probably why i buy fewer and fewer albums each year and enjoy even less of them. I guess i can thank the impatient "let's download everything" generation for that.

I didn't care much for Peeping Tom, i am still not sure if that is because it was bad or just because my anticipation was so high for the album.

I'll be picking up that A Perfect Place CD, that's the best Patton stuff i have heard since General Patton vs. The X-Ecutioners.

I had ordered that big compendium edition of the comic from Amazon last month but i had no idea that there was going to be a TV show. I'll be sure to check it out.

I just saw it, and it wasn't my cup of tea. It wasn't bad but it wasn't really all that great either. Edward Norton, and Liv Tyler were fine but i thought not quite right for the their respective roles. Tim Roth while a good actor just wasn't very good in this movie in my opinion. That dude Tim Nelson who played the doctor was annoying as hell and was totally not fucking funny at all. William Hurt was pretty spot on though. The script was fairly run of the mill too and aped much of it's plot/structure from Iron Man right down to the hero's worst enemy being himself, and the final battle having a villian which was a reflection of himself. I know it's not a popular opinion but i did like Ang Lee's Hulk (with the exception of many the scenes with the Hulk in it lol), and this new movie was pretty similar to it but without the brains. I also didn't really see why they needed to reboot this franchise considering that this movie basically just picks up where the last one left off.

The Alan Moore/Alan Davis Captain Britain is awesome. I am also quite fond of the Jamie Delano stuff and the old school Claremont CB stuff.

i wouldn't say the Gaiman/Romita Eternals was awful like Des but i would say it is the worst thing Neil Gaiman has written but i still thought it was good. glad to see you guys dug the Captain Britian book though.

good choice is it a bonus Astounding Wolf-Man story ? I just thought they were reprinting the first issue of all those series again. I was going to get it because i like Wolf-Man and Firebreather but i figured do i really need another re-print of an issue i already have but if it's new stuff i think i will pick it up.

I guess. Maybe it's just the X-Men fanboy in me but the way Kirby drew Magneto always just blew me away, the way he used his eyes to express everything that needed to be said. Especially any page where he is shrouded in darkness where you can only see shades of the helmet and those eyes just lurking at you, terrifying stuff. He also drew the sexiest Jean Grey by far. But then again when pages like that are considered some of your weaker work, that only further signifies why Kirby is the greatest comic artist ever!

nope. i got the softcover, i guess that would explain why that page is blank lol but yea it is a really beautiful book. the only nitpick i had was there was a severe lack of any X-Men pages.

the art on the acknowledgements page or somewhere else ? The first page of the book has a photo of Jack at the 1973 San Diego Comic Con, and then it's the acknowledgements page.

Just got my DCBS shipment in today, and i'll post some thoughts up as soon as i start reading the comics but did anyone else get Kirby Five-Oh! ? I was totally not expecting the book to be that huge, but god damn it is a beautuful book!
