  1. So, like Dan I thought about cataloging my comics when I was a kid. Unlike Dan, I actually did. It was part of the fun. Get comics, read them, organize them, then catalog them. And I have never stopped doing this. Mainly to know what I have, but slightly because I am such a nerd about these things. (I still have all my old baseball cards at my parents house, separated in binders by sport, league, division, team, position, player, year, brand. Such fun times playing with those useless things.) As I pointed out to my mother recently, this is all because she found a coupon for a free comic book. Adventures of Superman #509 was the book I got. That thing spent the better part of three years on the floor of my mom's old station wagon. Now it is framed on my wall. Just because. Oh, Current count is 10,345. Plus, I have a stack of about 200 in my 'to catalog' box that I have been saving for vacation to tackle. So lets call it 10,545.
  2. X-Men vs. Avengers & X-Men vs. the Fantastic Four - I don't know. I like the FF mini better, but I think the Avengers mini has the better plot. I think I like the FF mini better because I can place it better in my head. I have no idea who these Avengers are. Also, I think this would be considered my comic version of the X-Men so I think I would enjoy this regardless. Lastly, the covers to these issues are horrid. 3. I will start by saying that I still love this movie. Is it perfect? Not even close. I am torn on if I want a remake. I think a good movie can be made from the basics of the story, but I fear they would go all CGI/3D on a new movie, which would really kill the tone of the film. I really do like that T-Bird was not being the final kill of the gang. Even tho there is not set power structure with in the gang, I always imagined it being 1) T-Bird 2) Tin Tin 3) Fun Boy 4) Skank. I really liked that the movie didn't go 4-3-2-1, but went 2-3-1-4. Start from the bottom and work up is the common way to go. However, this play out in more of a kill in order of finding them. Did it work? I think it did. If for nothing else than the full circle nature of how he kills Skank. Listening to Mike's rewrite, I am curious as to how you would handle the supernatural aspects? In your version, Top Dollar, and therefor his sister, don't exist. So there really isn't that character to say "Hey, Crow, Dead Things Alive" and whatnot. Do you introduce a character to do that (ie he seeks out a mystic), have the Detective/Sarah research the origins of Crows (internet, or if set in the 90s, library) or just drop it altogether.
  4. Wanted - I knew that the movie was not a straight adaptation, but damn. Reminds me of the old Mitch Hedberg joke, That said, I don't think the book is worse than the movie, but is different. I like the premise of the book, but feel something is missing from the execution. Comics: 25 Graphic Novels: 1 Trades: 135 (750)
  5. The more I hear about this movie, the less I am excited about it.
  6. Let's See: Dread Media Dropped D (when not on hiatus, naturally) Earth-2.net: The Show For Better or Worse Big Damn Heroes For Your Ears Only (I was watching the films as I went. Stopped, but will return later.) Uncanny X-Cast (When they choose to update) Art of Wrestling with Colt Cabana The MMA Report And the daily list of: Around the Horn Pardon the Interuption Fantasy Focus Baseball Scott Van Pelt Show Fantasy Focus Football Aftermath Live Audio Wrestling The Common Man & The Torg (Local Sports Guys) All of the sports podcast are really only listened to while at work. Need something PG because I am not allowed to wear headphones anymore, but can have a docking station. If not for that, I would probably drop them in, save maybe the SVP show. I do love me some SVP show.
  7. Thanks for the well wishes. Let's recap the day shall we. Roommate lost his phone. His logical response was to look in my room while I was sleeping. Up 30 mins before alarm. Worked all day. Managed to not only tear my pants, twice, but also managed to get several paper cuts. Wisdom tooth pain, which had all but gone away, came back with some friends. Lunch and dinner orders where wrong when served. Also, lunch was spent at the lovely DMV. And to top it off, as I am heading to bed, I hear running water. Broken AC, overflow container not working, and a leaking ceiling in my downstairs closet. Normally, I choose to celebrate my birthday by not. But this just has not been my day.
  8. I've been having this minor annoyance with my ipod since 7/26. And I figured I would see if anybody here might have the solution. I download podcasts in iTunes and manually sync them on my iPod touch daily. I delete the podcasts on the iPod as they are finished and delete them in iTunes before downloading the new episodes. And for whatever reason, the 7/26 podcast of ESPN's PTI will not delete from my iPod. I delete it everyday. It does not show up on the iPod, just when I have it hooked up to iTunes. And it shows the podcast as having a length of 0:01, yet will play the full 22:00ish minute podcast. Any ideas on how to make this thing go away for good?
  9. UFC 151 has been canceled. The next event will be 152 and 151 will simply not exist. Cliff notes version: Dan Henderson was scheduled to fight Jon Jones. Henderson partially tears his MCL and pulls out. UFC finds a replacement in Chael Sonnen. Jones says no. UFC 151 canceled. I don't know how I feel about this. I get that this was your main event (and biggest fight on the card), but I do not know why you wouldn't still put on the show. All the fighters are left without their paychecks and the fans are left without a show. One fight can make a show, but the show is not one fight. With MMA, a card with a bunch of no name scrubs can be an awesome show. And conversely, a card with big name fighters can be an absolute bomb (this I have witnessed). So, put on the show, take a potential loss on the event, and move forward. On the other hand, you would like your Champion to be a fighting Champion. Jones would have been fighting an 'out of shape' Sonnen from everything I have read. Also, according to Dana White, this is the first time a Champion has refused a fight on short notice. On the third hand, this is a bit like a WWE MITB cash in. Jones was focused on fighting Henderson. He was not studying Sonnen and working a game plan for him. All it takes is one right hand and Jones is a former Champion. So I can understand not wanting to fight on short notice. So, I have no idea how to feel about this. Link
  10. Watching this last night in advance of listening to your review. This is a bad movie. That said, I was entertained and never felt bored. I felt the editing was off, and the Swamp Thing costume was okay, but whatever that was at the end was something special. And the movie took that weird turn for fifteen minutes and went all BOOBIES! Because you are all dirty from being in the swamp water so you take a bath in swamp water. Makes perfect sense. The movie doesn't have any re-watch value. I'd say it is a 3/10.
  11. Of the actual set, I would go with Once Brothers or Pony Express (SMU death penalty). If we go with everything from the ESPN Films Presents, I have to go with Catching Hell. I love how they break down everything to a "Who Shot JFK" level. Also, as a Reds fan, I take delight in the Cubs losing. And losing. And losing.
  12. 30 for 30: Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. The Knicks - Reggie Miller is just an annoying douche. And not in the annoying guy you hate on that team, but would love on your team way. He is just unlikable in my book. 30 for 30: The Guru of Go - Interesting look at a style of basketball that is destined to fail.
  13. Just finished the first season of the X-Men 90s cartoon. What I really enjoyed was the constant "To Be Continued" nature of the episodes. Always something to make you need to watch the next one. What I didn't enjoy was most everything else. The stories are fine, but the dialogue can be just horrid. Storm is the worst offender. Granted, these are my X-Men and still hear these voices in my head when reading a comic. I shall continue with this, but might hold off for a while to avoid burnout.
  14. 30 for 30: The U - Very good documentary about the rise and fall of the University of Miami football team. What stands out for me is how smug some of these former players are. I understand the athletes are confident, but they still seem to think they were God's gift to football. Also, I think they try and play the race card too much. "Oh, the man doesn't understand. Blah, blah, blah." Sure, race played a part, but you were stealing car stereos and hanging out with drug dealers. You are not innocent. And random extreme nitpick by me: You are doing a documentary on "The U" and you don't interview the biggest name on those teams? I get that Jimmy Johnson, Bernie Kosar (who seemed incredible drunk), and Michael Irvin are big football names, but Dwayne Johnson is the biggest name that was on any of those teams. Yeah, he was a shit player, but he was still a player on the 91 national championship team.
  15. The three hour RAWs have been declining in quality week after week. And I find that the pacing has been weird as well. I believe it was last week where 2-4 matches started with someone not getting an entrance. And it is not like these shows are booked that tight. Or this weeks show, where the last thirty minutes had absolutely no flow whatsoever. I will most likely give it another few weeks, but I really see me watching it on Tuesday afternoon. (Granted, with NFL & MNF soon, I would do that anyway. So, I guess WWE has until Jan. to convince me live is better.)
  16. New X-Men by Grant Morrison (#134-156) - Overall, I would say I enjoyed Morrison's run on the X-Men. The art was questionable at times, but the writing was rather solid. Except for the final arc. I was not a fan of the future storyline. I'll be honest, I was glossing over all most of "Beast" 's dialogue because I knew it really did not matter. And the two part reset with Chuck Austen was rather bland. Given that it was really filler before the big X-Line reset, I can kinda give it a pass... for the writing. The art was ass. Comics: 25 Graphic Novels: 1 Trades: 134 (744)
  17. What really confuses me is the timing of the firing. He makes the joke on RAW. Then works Smackdown. Then works RAW. Then works Smackdown. Then gets fired. If you want to make it a PR firing, you do it the day after. Two weeks later seems weird.
  18. Just judging from my friends, some people are going to have problems working things out in their heads. I say a Justice League movie is in the works, and you get all sorts of questions about which Batman, which Superman, ect are in this movie and where it fits into everything. The solo Marvel films did introduce the film audience to these characters, but they also built a very clear and simple to understand world for the Avengers movie to exist.
  19. 30 for 30: Without Bias - Really disjointed. First half is a sports documentary and the 2nd is a anti-drug PSA. No real flow to the story, and a few too many journalists interviewed for my liking.

    Randomness

I randomly looked at this today. In the last 30 days, I have listened to 173 podcasts, coming in at just under 129 hours. Seems like it should be more.
  21. When I read that, the voice in my head was Bill Lumbergh.
  22. 30 for 30: Small Potatoes: Who Killed the USFL? - Donald Trump. I may be off, but I do think that the USFL could have made a good run of things if not for Donald Trump insisting on moving to the fall and thus directly against the NFL. And looking back at the players they had, the NFL would be a different place had the USFL not existed or existed longer. I mean, what if Jim Kelly never plays for the Bills, or Steve Young never ends up a 49er? 30 for 30: Muhammad and Larry - Just depressing. Seeing Ali at the end, still trying to 'The Greatest' yet when he clearly is not is just heartbreaking. What makes it worse is everyone involved seemed to know it was not a good idea to have this fight. Larry Holmes looked so sad after giving Ali the beating that he did. Such a shame.

I am confused by Tim Hortons. I am eating a nice lunch and go to watch some Netflix on my iPod. Things is, their WiFi is Canadian and thus I can only play Netflix Canada. I understand that Tim Hortons is a Canadian company, but why would the internet they provide in the middle of Ohio be Canadian as well?
