  1. Finally starting on this, just got to the end of bttf 1. Couple of thoughts- -Marty wouldn't have invented rock and roll because he learned his side from Chuck Berry, so at worst it's a recursive loop paradox where no-one invented the song Johnny B Goode. The 'white guy inventing rock' is a little bit of pc over-correction. -I like the overwrought tension stuff. The second bully moment with George is BS for character reasons but I like the constant rhythm of setbacks in those action scenes. Doc zipping down and dangling is a highlight of the movie.
  2. Doing a big rewatch of this during my flu affliction. Onto season 4 again and in hindsight the Korra/Asami thing is so obvious. She blushes when Asami complements her haircut! Asami was the only one she could write to. They're more supportive of each other than anyone else at this point. It's so well told, I'm really glad to be going through it again.
  3. We'll see how this goes and it'd be cool if it was a post Dominion War series but honestly as long as it takes that Star Trek formula and breathes a little life into it I'm cool with whatever universe they set it in. . Casting and concept is key, you don't want to wind up like Voyager and Enterprise, with two or less decent characters and wallpaper or worse for the rest. And they should probably wait until at least episode 5 to flat out remake an old script.
  4. Hey. He's a british asshole doing an Irish accent. And Joe Gilgun is pretty talented, he's won me over in difficult roles before and his CV is pretty darn strong. Bucking the negative trend, I liked that trailer. It sets the theme for cycles of violence and escalation, but doesn't give away anything too crazy yet, just enough to intrigue people. I think the cartoon violence plus emotion of the source material is very difficult to translate into that AMC style miniseries, especially if you want to mass market it. Going subtle and threatening to build to bigger shit is a better route for them than setting a completely unfamiliar tone. I wasn't high on the concept of Seth Rogans Preacher but I'll give it a fair shot.
  5. Don't go up against Ian, he's got 100% conviction rate. If only he wasnt a defense lawyer...
  6. That feels a little like making faces through the window of a retirement home.
  7. You'll pry my feedback from my cold dead hands! That or i'll send in another barely relevant diatribe entirely based around bad jokes like I used to do with For Your Ears Only. Looking forward to the arrival of a little podcaster too. Please let her have Pandys talent and Ians flowing locks! And hopefully everything else from her mum.
  8. And my aunt us back to Facebook reposting bullshit like "Christmas for Christians!" again. She married a Muslim! My other aunts significant other of over 26 years is Jewish. Im athiest We all come together at Christmas (at her house) without a fucking WORD about Jesus all day, no grace, nothing. She doesnt go to church but for weddings and funerals. But Christmas is for Christians, and (I quote the rant she reposted) "if you're non-christian why are you even celebrating Christmas?" Argh! I like her and I see her almost every week to help her out with chores and run errends for her but good god her being on Facebook has unveiled her ugly side. Like when she complains about immigrants but her husband is turkish and their second home is in Turkey. Oh no, someone from eastern Europe might come and take a: the job she was pensioned off from for health reasons or b: her husbands job of being a self employed cab driver? I know everyone here probably has worse but it really irks me especially when the rest of my family is so reasonable.
  9. Good show as usual guys, although I still feel like Drive Angry AND National Treasure is a redundant level of Cageish films. Should have done Adaptation. The Hooters story had me rolling. For the record, my dad also saw Hendrix, only intentionally and with full appreciation for what he was seeing. And he bought the experience a drink. Not Jimi though.
  10. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have done some superb work. Their score for The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford is a personal favourite.
  11. It always supposedly is, and yet somehow isn't.
  12. Checking out some 90's Avengers. Really hope Triathlon has an evil counterpart named Pentathlon, who then gets over as a popular character in his own right so they need a new villain his place and they come up with Decathlon. And maybe he has a kid sidekick named Biathlon. 90's.
  13. Does that make you the fourth and eldest Wilson brother?
  14. Actually I was referring to Pandy's meeting with a penguin from Batman Returns. Those penguins had rockets, I figured they'd want revenge. Although it was surprising to find out there was an Andrew Wilson actor, only realised whilst watching Whip It the other day.
  15. I was helping a neighbour take down some ivy that had grown over our shared wall and it turns out she was in the first Doctor story Reign of Terror as Danielle and was as a smaller part in a Jon Pertwee story. Her name is Carolyn Hunt. I'm much less likely to poison her dog for barking at night now.
  16. Andrew Wilson was killed by rocket fire today.
  17. Jesus. That's the mot petty yet evil thing I've heard of. Fuck those guys.
  18. Yeah, that's the recap issue in Hickman's run I read that made me want to find the full story, if it exists. I saw that it happened in the SpiderVerse as well which piqued my initial interest. It's like if Thor turned up with one eye and said "Ragnarok happened, all the Asgardians are dead" but there was no story where it actually happened.
  19. Ok, I'm going crazy but is there a book, and actual issue, that details the fall of the Capt Britain corps, or is there only the recap we get in Hickmans Avengers books? I feel like I'm missing a huge chunk of story. I'm going to assume the Franklin stuff was in Fantastic Four. What happening to asterisks and note detailing books where events happened?
  20. Thanks Des. It was reading this thread and your thoughts that made me want to catch up, Red Dragon is the strongest source material and i wanted to see how they approached it. I think you liked the first and second seasons more than I did, the battle for substance has always been struggling with the shows desire to display abnormal psychology through artistic means. I watched it and enjoyed the atmosphere, but I always had problems with the codependent aspect of Graham and Lecter, they almost take that awful Hannibal turn of making him an antihero. Graham is too obsessed with the game, it makes him and pretty much every character unsympathetic when they know who and what Hannibal is and do so little to stop him. The tragic, brutal, violent way he caught Hannibal in the books, with almost that element of chance, it's so much scarier and more effective. That's why their reunion in Red Dragon is so powerful, because it's the first conversation of this new dynamic. The TV just gave us another conversation like we've had for a season and a half and expected it to be powerful.
  21. Just caught up. Man, Italy and the semi-Hannibal book adaptation really was terrible. Why didn't they just catch him at the end of last season and do Red Dragon this entire season? The problem with this show is that style overtook substance. They think that if the show looks good enough the audience will forgive anything. They threw the chronology out the window for no good reason. Im cool with shifts in the retelling but they need good reason to happen.
  22. Now now, you took me on on a no-win no-fee basis and I've been found guilty on every charge.
  23. Sorry, didn't mean to imply you don't appreciate those things in a wider film watching sense I was just stating that those are the parts that for me make this film work, and they were specifically the parts to which you were immune. To each their own, but I fear you are most likely in the minority on this one. I'd be curious to see how many other classic horror films you would feel the same about.
