  1. I'd argue that she's been a household name since that whole Lost in Translation/Girl with a Pearl Earring combo in 2003. Marvel didn't raise her profile much at all from that, as shown by her being the only Avenger to walk in with a sweet deal before the character was established. I mean, she's never even had a solo movie, so if Marvel made her then why is she the second highest paid Avenger (20 million) ahead of Cap, Thor, Hulk etc. At minimum The Other Boleyn Girl put her on equal footing star-wise as Natalie Portman long before Iron Man 2.
  2. Wait. We weren't supposed to cover the dog show?
  3. What about Lucy? I did mean to say Marvel films rather than other projects.
  4. A-list? There wasn't anyone who Marvel cast in the lead of any of the their films who was "A-list", whatever that mean these days, barring Scarlett Johansson who hasn't even been the drawing star of any of the films she's been in. RDJ wasn't A-list until Iron Man. It's not twenty years ago, you can't just slap Will Smith in a film and have it be a success. The property is a bigger draw than the talent right now, especially in blockbuster movies. That's why Marvel can throw a bit-part dude from a little-watched sitcom as the lead of one of their properties and sell 3/4 of a billion worth of tickets. Talent is the most important thing.
  5. But to be fair, those two play brother and sister in Bridesmaids.
  6. Well pointed out sir. And since Young Victoria she's been the primary supporting character and often stolen the show in several high profile films including The Adjustment Bureau, Looper and Edge of Tomorrow. If there's a paucity of decent leading parts for women in films like that it's not her fault. She's been great in what she's done and consistently raised her profile.
  7. Game Change and Boogie Nights are good suggestions. Not sure I've seen her carry big roles in much outside of those and Hannibal, which was a bit shit.
  8. "Cap'n, I doubt the addition of nitrous oxide will make much in the way of improvements to an anti-matter based drive" "Spare me your space aged technobabble Atilla the Hun!"
  9. I tend to think of Japan as a place that is simultaneously Vulcan and Risa, but that's probably just the anime talking.
  10. Japan is Betazed now? Oh, and Chekov will die there but because it takes place before the next four films he'll still be in those.
  11. Agreed on that. The strongest portions of this trilogy by far were the Bilbo parts, be it deciding to join the quest or confronting Gollum or Smaug. He was barely there in the third film, all he did was smuggle out the Arkenstone. I'm not asking them to make a bunch of shit up, but as we've been saying this is why you wanted the two-film structure, the story can't support more.
  12. Star Trek done entirely in the style of Fast and the Furious is a hilarious concept. What are they going to do, put chrome nacelles on the Enterprise? I'm guessing Kirk is the Paul Walker and Spock is the Vin Diesel. They get into a scrape going undercover in a spaceship theft ring run by the Orion Synidicate. All the female cast wind up wearing the midriff-exposing mirror universe uniforms.
  13. A copy/paste of my thouights on this film- The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies- Fuck off with this. I feel bad saying this because they're packed with talented folk and incredible production design, but this was a good 70% battle scene and not in a good way. No kidding, I honestly think that number is legit. The main problem is that the already loose structure of the original story in no way accommodates a three-film version. The simple nature of the original story doesn't bond well with the complications added to try and make it match the tone of the original film trilogy. This feels like the conclusion, middle and beginning of three different stories in that order. The only thread I was able to really hang on to was my guessing game about who was going to Sean Bean this time. On top of that, the 70% of the film that is battle is just mind-numbingly boring. I got the same hollow dull expression that resulted from watching Transformers: The Dark of the Moon. I couldn't find it in myself to give a shit about so much of what was going on. There are unintentional highlights, I think everyone in the theatre laughed when Billy Connolly showed up just as a reflex. On the flip side of that stuff that's supposed to be funny like the former servant of the master is just painful. Also, fuck off Legolas. He's like John Virgo on Big Break now, saying "I bet I can get all three balls from here" and then doing it. It's so predictable it's long since stopped being impressive. Whoever pointed out the escalation from surfing down some steps on a shield to taking down a war elephant was totally right, and that course of that curve remains unaltered. The ten minutes of Freeman we get remain the best thing but the movie hardly hinges on him, he's minimised to the functional aspects of his character. I wish they'd found a way to double or triple his screen time, but in some ways the fanfic love story gets more than he does. Final thought- I think if Peter Jackson made a film about the NFL where the Browns made it to the Superbowl against the Patriots, Philly would still come in at the end and score the winning touchdown. It's a bad movie, and I didn't even come close to saying that for the last two
  14. Hey! That was really cool. I really wasn't expecting it but once it was there I totally got it. As a season this asked a lot less questions about the nature of this world than the first three, and as a villain Kuvira was the least interesting, but it did feel like something those prior seasons were honing team Avatar for. Definitely a Kennedy-esque family dynasty vibe there.
  16. I like it. Modernisation of costumes is a really mixed bag but actually going with a little bit more practical fashionable look is a good way to go with this. Also, amazing how much smaller comic book boobs have gotten in the last 5-10 years.
  17. Nightmare is a full on movie, Blackadder's Christmas carol is good but you can't beat the sheer atmosphere and characterisation of the Burton pic.
  18. There are definitely holes, but then Hulk is unreliable, so it's not like unless Banner was directly underneath the helicarrier situation that he would think his alter ego would be any use, or even be able to distinguish between Shield and Hydra. Your main ones are no Avengers in Iron Man 3, which is kinda wrong, I'd have at least cameoed Cap although it's possible that Stark simply got there faster than any other response team. No Iron Man in Thor 2 seems reasonable since even Iron Man can't teleport to London in time to stop a 20 minute fight without some serious advance warning. No Iron Man in Cap 3 I don't know about. My main explanation would be him watching Shield implode and possibly not being in range since again, the battle happens in under an hour. Maybe you could argue Hawkeye should be involved thematically but he'll more than likely be off on missions a lot. There's viable explainations for most of these. IM3 is the most doubtful, but the others are just short battles that are over before anyone can travel there.

Better check her search history for ravines.
  20. I guess you guys feel pretty dumb for going through them all individually. This is like if they made BOTI-flavour instant noodles.
  21. On that note they should keep Garfield. He's a great Spider-man, and a pretty good Peter Parker.
