  1. Have you got around to reading that Life of Reilly website yet?
  2. One of my favorite superhero comics. Its fresh, funny and yet a lot of the plots have real emotional weight. Ordinarily I'd be very cagey about recommending someone drop a lot of cash on a big hardcover but this is one of those times where I think its worth it. I just don't see how someone couldn't enjoy it, its one of the best superhero books out there right now.
  3. I say screw it and try to continue with the Returns continuity. Stick with Routh & co, develop the story as they had originally planned. Its not going to be any worse than ANOTHER reboot. Lets just get on with it and start introducing some classic superman villains who ARN'T Lex Luthor. Give me Parasite damnit! Or Brainiac or Metallo! Lets just actually GO somewhere before we decide to ditch everything. Besides, Superman's mythology isn't sacred ground to me so I enjoyed Superman Returns. The action was superb (saving the plane), the characters were well realised (Routh was spot-on) and the concept was at least original. I could care less about the son stuff not being in continuity, its like a neat little elseworlds tale to me. I will admit that Supes was a total stalker in that film but I figure thats actually in character, what with all the super spying powers.
  4. Congrats to both of you! 11 years, thats quite a long time. I have no idea how she managed it.
  5. Oh yeah, I hadn't noticed that new avatar.
  6. Really? I suppose if Bale decides to end his Batman stint he'll still need some big cash projects to keep him doing his smaller more personal films.
  7. Hmm. You know, I think you may have something there. Lies! Bring it on, Crazy/Beautiful, Eternal Sunshine, Marie Antoinette, all these are good films with good performances by Kirsten Dunst. I admit she was all wrong for Spider-man, but I've liked her a lot in other films.
  8. I can buy that they could save him from the heart deal thats fine. He died from falling several hundred feet from a helicopter, I think its safe to sy the cause of death was impact trauma, not heart attack.
  9. I'd offer to be a mod but at that point there would be no-one left to moderate.
  10. Its might actually be the correct date but theres a great deal of legal hubbub around who actually owns that issue, so DC might be keeping it on the DL and figuring they could do a big celebration at 75 to make up for it. After all, why highlight the central subject of a huge legal battle? Its not going to make them look good if people realise the they could lose thier Icon.
  11. Yoda's only taking your credit card numbers for ID purposes, you can trust him.
  12. Hell yes. All that random webslinging you guys want? In here. Thats true but I think they prefected the webslinging in Ultimate Spider-man. I prefer the less intensive less realistic more fun method.
  13. A nice piece of work that actually allows you to appreciate the inking rather than overpowering it. I'd like to see some more Bachalo-penciled stuff like this. I also like the fact that the baby is baby sized, not a tiny dot on his giant mountain-chest.
  14. I've just read the first volume of Mouseguard. Its one of those Indy style books thats almost coffee-table material, a very quirky yet classic take on anthropomorphic mice living as a society with the Mouse Guard being thier chief protection against the natural predators such as Weasels, Wolves and Snakes. There is a low words per page ratio and as a result this is almost something you could give to a child, but its asthetic is more arts-orientated so you might be reluctant to do so just so you can keep it to youself. A good read, I'll have to get the next volume
  15. If its not a sandbox webslinging New York then I'm not buying it. What I want more than anything is for Marvel to release a sandbox New York Heroes game where playing as Daredevil, Moon Knight, Captain America, Punisher or a varity of other guys is completly feasable. I see no problem with throwing in the complete both teams of Avengers as playable characters in that kind of environment and then picking and choosing your playable character. I don't want to play any Spider-man game where I can't websling randomly for the pure joy of it. Very few games have what I call the "joy of movement", where the control system is so perfect and the environment so well realised that you can just enjoy it without even thinking about it. In Ultimate Spidey I played that game for ages just hunting those little medals and prizes whilst listening to podcasts of with tv shows playing in the background, it was perfect. Assassins Creed and GTA have a similar deal, as I'm told does Superman returns (although the actual game storyline and repetitive nature it all mean I havn't bought that one). Spider-man in a linear game hasn't been acceptable since the first 3-d version (which was awesome for the time) and I refuse to buy anything less.
  16. I'm just interested to see if they can actually find a reasonable actress with the same, ahem, physical qualities as the Major. Whose for Patrick Stewart as the chief? Nah, if they make this it should be wholly japanese, it would do a lot of harm to try and transplant the ideas and concepts of that show and place them in an american setting. For one thing the big bad is often the American Empire.
  17. Are you comparing me with Keith Richards? Fie, I say! Keith Richards is a rank amatuer when it comes to inflicting suffering in the selfish name of science. You're more of a Dark Beast or Fabius Bile. Happy Birthday!
  18. Whilst I don't agree with the vile genetic experiments and very real cost in human life that has lead to your unnatural longevity I still appreciate everything you do for this site from behind the bars of your prison cell whilst you await your trail at the Hague.
  19. And how often do you hear Iron Man in your head?
  20. This going to be massive for Scotts career, so lets spread the news. http://www.scottadkinsfanz.co.uk/home.html The above spoiler is only a rumor, but makes sense.

I didn't pick Huntress. I didn't even know she was on the team. However looking at her bio it becomes clear that this was Batman's way of trying to have a positive influence on her just like with Firestorm. You seem to believe that a position on the League is earnt when clearly its circumstance that resulting in almost all new members. The opening arc for the current team is all about how they were forced to throw out all thier original selections in favor of the team that fate threw together. As for your whole arguement against special equipment being of much benefit to the unpowered, I ask you to watch the first episode of JLU where Green Arrow stops a giant radioactive chinese robot that even Supergirl couldn't dent. I think the bow has proven its worth. Blue Beetle was hired during the comedy era to basically fulfill the role of Justice League pilot, ferrying the rest of them around. Green Arrow was a classic League member going back to the days when Dick still wore trunks, he's got tenure. As for your point about Steel? Thats like saying that Green Lantern doesn't have any special powers. Hal Jordan is just a man when he's not wearing the ring. It doesn't mean he's not a powered hero 99% of the time. Look, I get that Nightwing is a great fighter and a gymnast on almost a Meta level but the problem is that the Justice League has already fulfilled is quotient of unpowered humans and quite frankly Batman by himself is almost enough. What does Nightwing bring to the table right now that Batman doesn't? Or Roy? Or Green Arrow? I agree that at some point Nightwing should join the league and become thier leader or at least a senior member but its just not going to happen until Bats is gone, possibly even the entire trinity. They are slowly including more of the second generation with Flash and Red Arrow, I think that Nightwing will join during a crunch situation in a big event thats put Batman out of the picture, which is how it ought to be. He shouldn't just be selected, he should be the right man at the right time so the story they are telling gets a shining moment.
  22. Nah, but seriously, this was awesome. I'd love to see a live action Mario but only if it was shot with New Zealand doubling for the Mushroom Kingdom and with Peter Jackson directing. Mushroom, Hobbits, whats the diff? Just picture Hobbiton littered with drainpipes.

I'm not saying Nightwing shouldn't be in the League, just that he's not the first choice guy for a lot of creative teams. Shiva trained Black Canary by mail and then Canary went to learn from the same people as Shiva did, and in doing so became the new Shiva in thier eyes. She's one of the most capable hand to hand fighters in the world. Back in the day her inclusion might have been token but right now she's a significant member in her own right. Kyle being put on the team I put down to the League wanting to keep tabs on a new hero with an incredibly powerful weapon. Its the same reason Batman gave for bringing in the new Firestorm recently, he needs guidance and experiance working with the best, and he's too dangerous for them to allow to develop on his own. Its not always about making the cut, but about making a team. I don't think that Nightwing will ever be a part of a Justice League that Batman is also on, they just clash so easily when it comes down to operational methods in crunch situations. I was certain that Roy was highly regarded in hand to hand but I'm unable to find any evidence for that, so I'll concede that point.

I'm going to try to be kind about this. Nightwing doesn't have any powers. Like, Batmans super smart and a tactical mastermind which is why he gets on the JLA, and Red Arrow shoots lots of useful arrows. Nightwings really good at fighting but theres a lot of bad guys out there who will completly crush him at short range. Arrows are safe, they can be used at range, plus Red Arrow is one of the DC universes top non-meta fighters. Nightwing is like Red Arrow without the arrows. I'm not saying he couldn't be on the JLA, but he's not going to be the most useful guy against some of thier foes. Its much easier for Kyle Rayner to get in because he has a power ring. Black Canary is a fairly senior member of the team already, she's trained in hand to hand by Shiva herself AND she has a superpower. I get why you think Dick should automatically be on the JLA but a lot of these people have abilities and team-related stature in the DC universe that Nightwing hasn't got because he went straight from the Titans to leading the Outsiders, a team widely regarded in the community as a disaster.
