Dan
FUCK YEAH AUGUST =D We have a friend's wedding in August: the wife said that if it clashes we're not going This is obviously pure non-binding speculation, but the Doctor Who News Page notes that series premieres are usually on Bank Holiday weekends, indicating August 23rd. Dan
"The Day of the Doctor" was a lot of fun, but it's clearly not the best story of all time. Which is weird, because we've had sufficient time for the post-anniversary glow to wear off.
KnightWing
But it has had the most exposure of any Doctor Who story in recent memory. People who don't even know about Doctor Who know that the 50th anniversary special was in theaters last year.
Venneh
Exposure =/= good story. The 50th was fun, but story wise, it doesn't all hold up on rewatches.
You Know Who
Day of the Doctor isn't the perfect, but I'm actually glad it was ranked over Caves and Empty Child. I know that's heresy and I'm not saying they're bad, but the hype behind each of them has prevented me from getting much enjoyment out of them. KnightWing
Exposure =/= good story. The 50th was fun, but story wise, it doesn't all hold up on rewatches. But exposure does mean that it will top popularity polls. Not everyone who voted is going to have seen literally every episode of Doctor Who ever made, but just about everyone has seen The Day of the Doctor and at least likes it, if not loves it. slothian
I'm just happy Timelash is no longer second bottom! On this form, it'll be 3418AD's favourite Who story!
Missy
I truly want to know who's voting The Twin Dilemma as the worst Doctor Who story ever. Is it people who've seen it and genuinely think it's bad, people who have seen it but are letting themselves be influenced by its reputation, or people who've never seen it but are going along with the crowd.Admittedly, I have a major soft spot for that serial and, yes, the twins aren't great, but there are far worse stories than The Twin Dilemma. Stavros
I think it's mostly because it's more modern and significant than most. Hartnell could spend 4 episodes messing around with a nonsense story and for reasons of obscurity and a lack of urgency no-one would care. 6 needed a better start, especially compared with the preceding Caves and so the Twin Dilemma did more damage to the show than most other stories at a time when many current Who fans were still watching or just starting to watch. Missy
I will not disagree with that; Colin Baker needed a better opener, especially after Caves. However, I truly believe most (but not all) of the "it's the worst story ever" crowd are people who've been told as much but have never seen it. Dan
There's a lot of people who are still angry at their show being on a downward slide in 1984. Thirty years later common wisdom remains as etched in stone as ever. It's the same phenomenon as people who still make lame jokes about how Batman and Robin was the worst cinematic abortion in motion picture history nearly twenty years after it came out. No one's truly angry at it anymore, and much better Batman films have come along since then which logically should make us lighten up, but it's still easier to slag on B&R than it is to come up with a new thing. The Twin Dilemma is very likely going to be fandom's punching bag forever, and the fact that far worse stories were made before and since is not going to change that. Rjoyadet
I am surprised that people ranked Rings of Akhaten so low. While it may not be a great story or even a good story, I still thought it was better than other episodes like Love and Monsters.
Koete
Yeah, it was inoffensive compared to some of the garbage in that season.
JasonC
And it didn't help that Michael Grade, the then Director of the BBC, hated the show with the passion of a thousand fiery suns and did everything he could to bring it down, including slashing the budget for the show. He cancelled it the first chance he got and swore that while he was in a position of power at the BBC, it would never come back.

dc20willsave
June 16th, Fathom Events is showing The Age of Steel/Rise of the Cybermen as part of a 2 night event with Wings, a documentary narrated by David Tennant. I would have been tempted to go if they had went with a better 2 part episode.

dc20willsave
I get why they went with it. It's not mired in continuity and it's a Rose/10 story. I still feel like The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit would have worked better considering that criteria.
