  1. American Vampire vol 1 - Loved it. Snyder does so well with characterization and dialogue. It really broke my heart to see what Pearl goes through in this. The Stephen King-written stories didn't appeal to me as much though. Rafael Albuquerque's art was excellent. Harley Quinn #24 - Fun action issue with good art as always. Can't wait to see what happens next. Ms. Marvel #3 - Solid enough issue, it hits all the right beats. Miyazawa continues to be my favorite Kamala artist. Star Wars #15 - Decent story, nice seeing more of the time between Sith and Star Wars. I like Mayhew's art well enough, even if it's on the verge of the Uncanny Valley. This transitionary Obi-Wan looks a lot like Liam Neeson to me. And Uncle Owen looks like James Corden.
  2. Loki wishes he could be James Woods' Hades.
  3. I always thought that was the best way to watch the show. Hulu Plus has pretty much all of Classic Who.
  4. Sandman: Endless Nights - Pretty good collection of short stories. The Death one didn't leave too much of an impression but had pretty P. Craig Russell art. The Delirium story was a heartwarming story that was told really weirdly, though that one big panel of Delirium is just iconic. Dream's might be my favorite of the lot, I love the art and the ties to the DCU. And Destiny's chapter has the most gorgeous Quitely art I've ever seen. Sandman: Overture - And after 3 years, give or take, I've finally read every Sandman comic. This works really well as a greatest hits package, since it has just about all the things you expect from Sandman, the creepiness, magic, wonder, all with a good helping of family drama. And then there's JH Williams III's amazing storytelling, there's just so much to get out of each page. This is a really good final Sandman story. (Although I'm not sure if it would be the very last) Batgirl #47 - What Don said. The inconsistent art doesn't help either. Captain Marvel #1 - The transition from DeConnick's character redefining era to this is pretty smooth, unlike some other Marvel characters. (I'm looking right at Daredevil) I think this has more narration boxes from Carol than previously. Aside from that, it's a solid enough beginning to the arc. The art by Anka's really good, I'm never really sure what to expect from him since I see him use so many styles.
  5. It's for the best. Interest has been fading for a while now, and a break would do it good. Wish that it would've been someone with less or no Doctor Who credits, but I'm hoping he'll do well.
  6. Thoughts on Episode 1? It was a decent way to get the team assembled. The plot itself is not necessarily the most interesting about it, but the characters are all pretty fun together.
  7. Brooklyn Nine Nine - One of the funniest shows I've ever seen. Love the cast so much. Star Wars The Clone Wars - Finally getting around to watching it from the beginning. Pretty mature stuff. Really fleshes out minor characters like Plo Koon. I can't think of any argument against this being the best thing to come out of the prequels.
  8. My Fair Lady - Not sure how to feel about this. For the first 2 hours or so I was engaged, Eliza is one of the most fun characters Audrey ever played, and Rex Harrison was very watchable. But then around the time of the intermission, I just lost interest. The last 20 minutes are good though, I really liked the performances. As for the songs, they're good but not the best I've heard. There's a serious disconnect for me with dubbing over Audrey. Harrison's talk-singing thing gets the job done and that's all I can say. Overall, not one of my favorite Audrey Hepburn movies but I'm glad I finally watched it.
  9. That's because Barry's an idiot, and Patty Spivot's the best thing to happen to this show. That scene with Wally and Joe was right out of the 2015 FF movie. All in all, great episode. It's always nice to see a lame villain get treated well. The Turtle as a threat. Who would've thought?
  10. Batman: The Demon Laughs - Found the 100-page spectacular for a dollar, after years of trying to find it. The story is simultaneously kinda cool and goofy, with Ra's Al Ghul recruiting the Joker. It went the way a Joker story involving another villain seems to go, in that the Joker helps out Batman in some way. It's also a typical Ra's story of trying to rid the Earth of 95% of its population. Dixon does well with the characters though, so I can forgive the plot. Jim Aparo's art is enhanced by John Cebollero and Noelle Giddings. It's recognizably Aparo but with an added layer of flash to it. Ra's doesn't look so good, though, and I wonder if that's Aparo or Cebollero who can't get him right. Sandman: Dream Hunters - The comic adaptation by P. Craig Russell. The plot is a bit thin, but I like seeing a Sandman story through a Japanese viewpoint. (that may or may not be real) Russell's art is fantastic, and makes me wish he got to do more of the main series. A-Force #1 - Decent issue with some nice art by Molina. I'll probably stick around. ANAD Avengers #3 - Nice to see the team finally be a team. Looking forward to it more now. Kubert's art is good, but not up to par. Spider-Gwen #4 - Continues to be my second favorite comic. Best place to get my Spidey fix, considering what Peter's evolved into now. Star Wars Darth Vader #15 - Vader Down is the best thing to come out of the Marvel Star Wars so far. I agree with Mike though, that the last few parts could've been condensed to Vader Down #2. The Ultimates #3 - Can't think of any other way to say "I really love this comic" but I still have to mention it. Web Warriors #3 - An empty calorie book, but still plenty of fun.
  11. That bit where Joe goes through the one window, when the other's all clear, cracks me up.
  12. Looper - Good movie. Great performances from everybody. I'll echo everyone else and question the prostethics on JGL's face, which was distracting. Really liked the action. If I have a gripe, it's that the telekinesis bit hardly gets any mention until it figures into the plot, at which point I had forgotten about it. But that could just be me.
  13. Yes! Red Dead Redemption on the way.
  14. And I don't think he's writing it, so we'll be good here.
  15. So this is the context behind "Do you bleed?" A petulant Batman is always fun for me, but that's just silly.
  16. Just watched that the other day too, and enjoyed it. Liked all the musical performances. "Please Mr. Kennedy" takes on a new light considering two of the people singing it.
  17. Batman Beyond: 10,000 Clowns - The first I've read of the Batman Beyond comics and wow I loved this. This was just a kickass story. I didn't know why Dick Grayson is acting and looking like Nick Fury, but I just went with it. Norm Breyfogle is a really good fit for the book, to tie into the above post from Don. Venom: Toxin With a Vengeance - I really missed Agent Venom, so I grabbed this trade from the Bunn era, which I gave up on two arcs in. I was really impressed with this one, the horror aspect of his run really came off well, especially with Declan Shalvey on art. Anakin and Obi-Wan #1 - Good first issue, if really decompressed. Interesting seeing Anakin's preteen years, since that's an era that I don't really see much of. Everyone's written really well, Palpatine continues to be his usual slimy self. I enjoyed the art by Checchetto, though some of the storytelling at the beginning was confusing.
  18. The most recent Operation Rebirth trade is probably the way to go for the first Waid run.
  19. It's interesting that you compare his work to Bruce Timm, and now that you say that I get what you mean. It's like if Bruce Timm picked up Todd McFarlane's style, at least as far as I see it.
  20. Read Weapon of a Jedi by James Fry, the Luke Skywalker novel that came out before The Force Awakens. The story is about him first using the lightsaber with a framing sequence of Jessika Pava, the Asian X-Wing pilot, asking 3PO about Luke. There's small hints about things that they could possibly expand on. Overall I thought it was pretty good, Luke's voice was captured well and the action was good. There's a few humorous bits, mostly at C3PO's expense, which is nice.
  21. I wish I could disagree with you Don, but I can't. I'm really enjoying the art, but I feel like Soule could be doing so much better. This isn't the Charles Soule of She-Hulk, this feels like a regression to the 90s. Not that I'm disparaging the time period, but it doesn't belong here. It's like an editorial mandate to have it sorta resemble the show, without the levity between the characters. And seriously what's up with the line Blindspot had about tweeting DD's unfairness to his 50,000 Twitter followers? That was a groaner.
  22. Thinking about it, Ra's Al Ghul has the same basic look as Dr. Strange, with classic comic book villain colors and facial hair.
  23. Oh, yes! This is everything I never knew I wanted in a podcast.
