  1. This is an interesting take on the zombie genre. The zombie/human war is over and the zombies have won. The movie is about one of many cities the humans have secured and walled off to protect themselves. The city, Fiddler's Green, is mostly surrounded by a river. An electrified fence around the rest of the city keeps the zombies at bay. What is interesting is that the zombies, rather than being mindless killing machines, are starting to develop some primitive skills. They can communicate and are learning to use tools. Some of them even learn to fire guns. (This will be familiar to those who have seen George Romero's Day of the Dead) The city becomes a trap when the zombies figure out how they can cross the river. They jump in and walk across the bottom into the city. Now the security features designed to keep zombies out have trapped the humans in, and it is not pretty. The main villains, once again, are not the undead, but evil humans. Instead of banding together for the common good against an enemy that threatens to wipe out humanity, selfish, greedy elitists exploit those less fortunate while they live in luxury. Romero's fourth film evolves the series well. Now that zombies (who feel no pain and can only be killed by a massive head injury) are starting to gain some intelligence, what hope is there for a devastated world ruled by the undead? Or does zombie intelligence lead to the possibility that the living and the undead may coexist? The door is open for more sequels, as the humans try to rebuild a shattered world. Final grade: B+

    New JLA story arc

Without giving anything away, the events that led to Identity Crisis are coming back to haunt the JLA. Looks like it is going to be interesting...
  3. If it happens, it will be temporary. Batman is too much of a cultural icon (far beyond comic books) to not be Bruce Wayne. Sure, they have changed the character wearing the Robin mask, but Robin is not the central character of the story.

  5. I don't think it is all that shocking. Had the poll been taken a year ago, I think it would have been closer, but watching Kenobi own Vader in "Sith" tipped the scales against Vader.
  6. I just voted, and my vote made it (as of now) 10-0 for Obi-Wan. Poor Vader. Someone please vote for Vader so this isn't a sweep. I think either Kenobi will take Vader. The younger Kenobi has several steps on the older Kenobi, but the older Kenobi has had many more years to study and master the Force.
  7. Is this Episode III Kenobi vs. Episode IV-VI Vader? Or is this Epidode IV Kenobi vs. Episode IV-VI Vader? That could influence a lot of votes.

    Darth Maul v Yoda

Maul's deadliest weapon is his speed and agility, which allowed him to hold his own against both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn. From his fights with Dooku and Palpatine, Yoda surpasses Maul by quite a bit in speed and agility. When you throw in Yoda's mastery of the Force, this fight does not last ten seconds. Yoda cuts Maul into little bitty pieces, and Star Wars fans again mourn that arguably the coolest bad guy in either trilogy won't be seen again.
  9. The only time they met, Palpatine defeated Skywalker. That, however, was only because Palpatine took Skywalker down with a cheap shot. Going from Palpatine's epic battle with Yoda, I would say that he defeats Skywalker. Victory may cost Palpatine an arm and a leg (bad pun intended) but he manages to defeat Luke.
  10. Except that Dooku already proved he could beat Kenobi. Twice. With Anakin helping Kenobi. Yes, Vader killed Dooku and Kenobi dismembered and torched Vader, but let me use a sports analogy. For whatever reason, the New England Patriots just own the Indianapolis Colts. But that doesn't mean the Patriots will automatically beat any team the Colts can beat. Another team might have the exact personnel needed at the right positions to take New England apart, but can't get it done against Indianapolis.
  11. This fight is not even a contest. Count Dooku soundly defeated Obi-Wan in both Episodes II and III. Had Anakin not saved Obi-Wan both times, Dooku would have killed him. Kenobi fights valiantly, but he is no match for Count Dooku.
  12. Here are two matchups I want to see. Count Dooku vs. Saruman (movie version) Magneto (movie version) vs. Gandalf (movie version) In both mathups, I am certain that the characters played by Ian McKellen and Christopher Lee will win.
  13. Vader wins, barely. Windu is arguably the most powerful Jedi, because he was able to do what Yoda could not: defeat Emporer Palpatine. If Vader had not lopped off Windu's hand with a cheap shot, Windu would have killed Palpatine. Vader, though, increased in power and he is the Chosen One. Anakin vs. Windu would result in a victory for Windu. Vader would defeat Windu.
  14. I will have to rent this game. I graduated from a Christian school (1992) but my Scriptural knowledge isn't as good as it should be. I got stumped when asked a question on the Great Commission a few weeks ago.
  15. I was thinking the same thing.

    Catwoman v Black Cat

I think Black Cat takes this, not because she is more skilled, but because she has so much more experience in dealing with the Kingpin. She also would be able to bait Catwoman into walking into Kingpin's security systems and/or guards. If they were breaking into Penguin's offices, Catwoman would get the jewels first.

    Xbox 360 news

I agree. If the XBox 2 looks like that when released, it will reinforce the perception that video games are still a children's toy. One would think that the design of the box (no pun intended) would not matter, but people make a lot of judgements on appearance. That thing looks like a toy, in my always humble opinion.
  18. A remake of the classic late 1980's arcade shooter "Narc" is being blasted because if the player uses the drugs he confiscates from criminals, it can enhance his character's powers. Well, I suppose we should also ban "Super Mario Brothers" and SMB's sequels. After all, Mario and Luigi eat mushrooms to double their size and strength, and eating flowers allow the brothers to throw fire at enemies. In fact, SMB is even worse because there are no negative consequences from eating performance-enhancing mushrooms and flowers, while "Narc" penalizes the player for using drugs. And what of the Super NES game "Brawl Brothers"? Eating food items like roast beef or chicken restores the player's life energy, but doesn't the game send the wrong message when the food acts as a power up when it is floating in the sewer? In fact, the chicken leg looks like something else when it is floating down the sewer. That's just nasty. It's a video game, people. Get over it.

    Mega Man v Astro Boy

The biggest question is whether or not Mega Man is carrying the powers and abilities of Wiley's creations, and then there's the question of how much power MM is loaded up with. This could potentially be a squash for MM. However, the story seems to indicate that MM is just the basic "blue" MM, with the arm cannon. Machine guns, lasers and super strength carry the day, and MM does not have as much experience flying as his opponent does. Mega Man fights valiantly, but is subdued. When he finds out what really happened, they both go after Wiley.
  20. I bet there was a whole lotta cussin' goin' on.
  21. Of these choices, Zelda. The 2nd Quest was a big reward for beating the game. Paperboy was fun too, but it was really annoying when my five year old niece could ride her bike between the car and the curb when no one else could. And she could do it consistently. Tetris was a classic. I don't consider Donkey Kong and Pac-Man to be NES games though, since they were on Atari and ColecoVision first.
  22. I figured as much from the cover. I don't like it. First, JT's death has been a great vehicle for probing Batman's guilt, much as Uncle Ben's death has been for Spider-Man. Batman's guilt over JT's death was really played up in Superman/Batman. While JT's death isn't nearly as central to the Batman chracter as Unle Ben's death was for Spider-Man, it is still important. Jason Todd should have STAYED dead.

    Countdown

So what was the big blue guy with the fin on his head? Except he won't stay dead.
