Temporary tattoo. It has to be. It HAS to be.

Cause I refuse to believe that A) any self respecting tattoo parlor would give a tattoo to an infant (general messiness and probably CPS/health inspector issues involved, and B) that any mother would give her infant a tramp stamp.

...My little wavering flicker of faith in humanity, let me have it a while longer.

Neil Gaiman on Wisconsin/Minneapolis Brand Cold:

When I moved out to this part of the world, about 18 years ago, I noticed an odd phenomenon. Friends who were from here, who loved it, who were part of the life and scene and soul of Minneapolis would just announce, out of nowhere, that they were leaving, and they were done now. And they'd sell up and Go South. They'd always Go South.

That's odd, I thought. They're so happy here.

It seemed a bit sinister.

Today, walking the dogs, I sort of got it. Suddenly the oncoming cold, the idea that every time I would need to walk the dogs for the next three, perhaps the next five months, during the daylight...or at night...

...that I'm going to have to suit up like a spaceman on a planet inimical to human life. Every single time. And I'm going to get to the point where I look forward to the temperature getting up to 0F, because you can breathe without it hurting, and you don't have to put on crazy protection to go outside, and the dogs still enjoy it outside at this temperature.

I thought, I bet the Caribbean's really nice this time of year.

And I shivered, under the snow-suit, in a way that had nothing to do with the cold, and I thought, I bet that's what they all thought. The people who Went South.

I do not believe that I am joining them. Not yet. But I definitely understood them.

Got an email telling me my bursary cheque that I didn't ask for is ready. Apparently it's three cheques adding up to a grand for the year, handed out a couple of months apart. It's almost certainly a mistake, the question is do I ask them to check? I don't want to get it, spend it and then be asked to give it back.

Ask them to make sure, however if they are still sure its fine, take it and put it in an instant access savings account. That way, when they ask for it back, you've made some money from it. Or, if they don't ask for it back, you'll have the money, plus the interest.

True, good point. I've already got one, I'll throw it in there.

One of my best mates is in Afghanistan but he has his iPod as well as his netbook so I'm spending today compiling a few DVDs worth of books, comics, and other things he might like (I'm not to send any porn so no need to scrub my entire computer after compiling such a disc.) as well as sending him the complete run so far of WFP and any episodes of Earth-2.net The Show that he might find funny. It's mainly the Batman episodes, the Saw Episodes, as well as the two "How to Handle Yourself at a Con" episodes.

I'd say add the countdown episodes to that list. It is really great fun to hear Mike and Des go from "This is going to be great....I like how this is here....I wonder how this will work there..." to "Fuck everything....I hate this comic"

Also, add episode 100 to the list, as Mike put together a great episode on TMNT, with lots of people from the site at the time contributing. It runs in at seven hours, but never has a dull moment.

My thing there is I've been avoiding the Countdown episodes and I'm daunted by the TMNT episode myself and don't quite want to send a 7-Hour podcast to the man. It's this entire, "Don't have someone else do what you wouldn't." mentality of mine at play.

Wine in a can from the convenience store tonight, cause Japan's kind of awesomely ironically classy like that. Along with seasonal strawberry booze and peach booze. Maybe another 200 ml of Bailey's straight if I really want it, we'll see how the rest of the booze goes.

In other news, it's finals week out here, can you tell?

EDIT: The chardonnay in a can is a lie, it's just another form of sparkly grape booze that tastes like cold medicine. Damned if I'm going to let it go to waste, though.

Also, reason #513920 I love the Hunger Games: Lines like this in a YA book. "Then the ants bore into my eyes and I black out." You know! For kids!

EDIT EDIT: Chardonnay can down, and now strawberry can.

Also, THIS IS AWESOME:
