Dread
Ronnie James Dio was weeks away from going to his death bed from an already encroaching stomach cancer when he did this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fTPS9rHrLk Career-defining performance. His voice is still crisp and smooth. Goddamn. You can see the pain in his face though. Barely able to stand backstage before he came out. This was in his 52nd and final year as a professional musician. Got his start in doo-wap bands in the 50s. They guy was no fucking joke and is still the definitive singer of Black Sabbath. Dread
17 years ago, Refused released a genre-defining album and then promptly disbanded. Now they're finally back and their new song fucking rips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRMXTvsCBwQ Same energy I felt when I first saw/heard this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkAe30aEG5c

Molly
I've recently discovered Jason Isbell. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard fans take note. This guy is fucking awesome. Dread
Fun fact: one of my old bands opened up for The Donnas once. I fell in love with all four of them. Edited November 23, 2015 by Dread
Guest
There was a point a few years ago when I suddenly realized that the Donnas were one of my favorite bands.I have been deeply in love with Allison Robertson for a very long time. Dread
It's rather telling we both dig women who sing songs about leading men on, then leaving them in the lurch and passing out on the lawn on the way out.
Dan
Billboard is reporting that Axl Rose and Slash are reuniting as Guns 'N' Roses for Coachella this year. That explains the flying pig I saw this morning.
Gareth
I'm gonna play Kanye West for a second here guys...So, not that the Grammys have ever had too much credibility when it comes to awarding musical excellence, but last night, Taylor Swift, easily the weakest nominee, won "album of the year" beating one of the most powerful and important albums of the decade. Kind of a bummer.

Gareth
For me? 'To Pimp A Butterfly', if only for its top notch musicality combining hip-hop with funk and jazz, politically-sharp- if not revolutionary -lyricism, and of course the show stopping and seamless fadeout track featuring Lamar casually conversing with a long deceased Rap legend. Listening to it all the through is truly a trip and it's as strong of a hip hop album as we've had in recent memory. But nah, let's give it to the poppy 'Shake it Off' album.EDIT: On the other hand, we got this fiery live performance from Kendrick: https://streamable.com/nz4k Edited February 17, 2016 by Gareth
Dread
Admittedly, I've been out of hip hop for a few years because it feels like everybody's rhyming by repeating the same fucking word over and over, but maybe I'll give that one a shot. Gareth
Yeah, mainstream hip hop dipped for sure with some truly terrible lyricists taking the spotlight. But I'll be damned if Kendrick Lamar isn't putting out some of the best music the genre's seen since the 90's. He's so good it's almost surprising he's gone mainstream. good kid, m.A.A.d city is a fantastic and absorbing story album, and then there's TPAB which is honestly a masterpiece, even if you have no interest in hip hop it's worth at least one listen through, if nothing else but for it's cultural relevance. Donomark
The latest Gorillaz album HUMANZ has been out for a couple months now. Most of it took some time getting into, but once it did I think it's another great album from an amazing band.
