I'm not surprised. No state income tax. In new york, you get smacked with city and state taxes.

    Movie rules

    31. Every single vehicle ever made is identical to the Ford Pinto and will explode in a massive ball of fire after the smallest crash. 32. It is against the laws of nature to simply kill someone, whether you are good or evil. You must dawdle for several minutes to give your opponent a chance to recover. 33. If you severely wound the bad guy of a slasher movie, you must never finish him off. You must instead run away so he can recover and come after you again.
  4. Some have said it glorifies terrorism. Having watched a video of the whole level and seen it in context, I don't have a problem with it. Splinter Cell: Double Agent had a similar theme.
  5. What do you all think about the airport level in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2?
  6. I purchased the "cry for justice" hardcover. I was interested in seeing what they did with it. I wasn't expecting much - I actually expected it to be bad. It may be because I had such low expectations for it, but I actually liked it. I don't like that they killed Lian, though, and think it could have worked just as well had she gone missing instead. Then DC can bring her back at some point without resorting to resurrection or time travel or something. It made a lot of sense for Green Arrow to kill Prometheus. His city had been devastated, his adopted son maimed, and his granddaughter murdered. If Prometheus was allowed to live, there's a good chance he would do this again, as someone else brought up earlier. There should have been a reference to Dr. Light though. Making Arsenal a heroin addict in the aftermath, though, is bovine feces. It's a significant part of the character's history that he beat his drug addiction. There's no reason to go back, from a storytelling perspective. What would work better: Harper acquires some heroin because he thinks he's lost everything and it does not matter any more. The issue ends on a cliffhanger with him in tears and about to use it. The opening of the next issue sees him destroying the drug. "I beat you once. I'm not going back."

Very smart. One thing you never want to do is trash a former employer, especially publicly. It looks bad to potential future employers. That is a lesson some have learned the hard way. It doesn't matter if you were 100% right, just keep your mouth closed and your fingers as far away from the keyboard as possible.
  8. I've been working on Super Mario 64 DS yesterday and today. This is a game that is clearly better with the Nintendo 64 controller, but the DS translation is pretty good.

I have to call bovine feces here. In 2008, Jericho used an electrical cable to strangle JBL - several months after Benoit killed his family. If I recall correctly, Orton used foreign objects to choke Cena on several occasions as recently as last year. I'm sure we could come up with many more examples that took place well after the Benoit murders. Make no mistake: the purpose of this is to make WWE look better for Linda's US Senate race. If Linda wins her race, you can expect WWE programming to be gutted for the next 6 years. This will present an opportunity for TNA, should they start having some sensible booking. I'm not saying WWE should be taking chances with the health of their employees - everyone should be working safe, obviously. But "choking" someone with a foreign object? When everyone knows that no one is actually being choked? Come on. That's just silly.

Oh, for... I hated the McMahon/Stratus storyline, but you're griping about something from ten years ago. Now, if you want to gripe about the much more recent and incredibly misogynistic storyline about how "fat" Mickie James is, go for it.

http://article.nationalreview.com/435335/the-senate-candidate-from-smackdown/rich-lowry I'm pretty sure the WWE's shift to more "PG" programming is a direct result of the Senate race.

  15. It was OK. Not great by any means. I stifled a laugh when someone who wasn't even born when the original came out commented that it was "better than the original." Riiiiiiight. Rooney Mara doesn't hold a candle to Heather Langenkamp. Not even close. Kyle Gallner vs. Johnny Depp? Please. Jackie Earle Haley is no Robert Englund. The problem with remaking NOES as opposed to remaking Friday the 13th is that while Jason is a very generic killer who can be played by anyone, Robert Englund is Freddy Kruger. You need to knock it out of the park. The lead-up to the parents killing Freddy was slightly more plausible. "He got off because someone didn't sign the search warrant in the right place" may be great fodder for a movie, but it is not grounded in reality. It's fearmongering designed to ease us into giving up our civil rights. (I'll stop here and avoid turning this into a political rant.) "More plausible" should be "less implausible." No way do the parents get away with killing him like that.

    Dragon Quest X

I'm looking forward to IX for the DS. It looks like a lot of fun. I hope they release VII for DS. I just finished V this weekend. Not a huge fan of catching monsters to use in your party, but I had a couple good monsters at the end. I restarted IV last night and I am beginning the 2nd chapter. The battle system in V was definitely an upgrade over IV, because having to hit a button to move past every message is very tedious. I loved DQ 8 for PS2. I have no idea what Square-Enix is thinking with a December 31 release date for VI. Why wait until after the Christmas season? They might as well set a pile of cash on fire.

Well, there goes the last WWE show I'm able to watch. I've got a few months to decide whether to upgrade my subscription from basic cable. I wish cable companies would sell individual channels.
  19. The PS3 is too expensive. I think that's been the biggest thing holding it back. The PS2 leaves everything else in the dust in terms of units sold. Longevity has been great too. The PS3 may have great hardware, but it isn't going to have nearly the impact the PS2 had.

    Nintendo 64 vs Atari 2600

As expensive as the PS3 was at launch, $200 was a lot more when the 2600 launched than it is today. Atari defined gaming, but the price was steep, over $520 in today's dollars. http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl The N64 was great, but no console has had the impact the Atari did. Everything since then, including the Wii, is building on the foundation poured by Atari. The N64's biggest weakness was the lack of RPG's, which was especially disappointing after the Super NES had so many great RPG's.
  21. The day after I saw this movie, I read a news story about a teenager who allowed a bunch of men to gang-rape her 7 year old stepsister, for money. My first thought was that I am thankful that God is infinitely more merciful than I am. (It is Good Friday, after all.) If I were the Creator, I would wipe the planet clean and start over. My second thought was that the Owlman character has a really good point.

If they think any voters are buying that they are out of their minds. No one is that stupid. The attitude era wasn't that long ago. Linda has no chance, even in CT. Not in a GOP primary, not this year. Republicans won't nominate a new face who believes abortion should be legal.
  23. The rest of the article was good, and the main focus of the body of the article was gun safety and responsible firearm ownership. They went and got a quote from former Fort Wayne Mayor Paul Helmke, the president of the Brady Campaign. That's fine. My problem is that the headline was pure sensationalism and nothing more. I've seen this before and I know where it's going. It's going to be the fault of the video game industry before this is all over. Color me cynical.
  24. http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/toddler-dies-mistaking-gun-wii-controller/story?id=10056190 Yep, let's blame the video game. It's all the game's fault. Nintendo is evil. What? The "father" left his loaded handgun on the kitchen table? Oh, no, that can't be the reason. How dare you suggest a grieving parent is at fault for his child's death? And no, I do not hear the "deliverance" music in the background. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. It's all the video game's fault.
  25. As a movie, Saw 6 was actually a lot better than I expected it to be. That wasn't hard to do, of course. The new Jigsaw is truly evil and wants to hurt people for the sake of it, unlike the first Jigsaw who followed some sort of warped and perverted "moral" code. It was refreshing to see... I wouldn't give this one an F, because it looks like they actually made an effort this time. Had they left the political propaganda out of it, I would give it a generous D+. With the completely inappropriate political propaganda and demonization of business, I give it a D-.
