  1. OK, we're polluting the earth so the plants teamed up to kill us. Gaia must have supernaturally sped up their evolution. She's going to get us for blaspheming her with our pollution! We need to show Gaia that we love her and will start respecting the earth. The logical first step is for all of us to sit in a drum circle, smoke some dope and sing songs about love and peace. And wear hemp. Just watch out for Eric Cartman and his drill. The only thing missing was for someone to say "Gaia damn it!" and be stomped on by an Ent for taking her name in vain. I wanted a movie, not a sermon. If I want a sermon, I'll go to church. Advocating for a cleaner environment is fine, but taking your environmentalism and ramming it down my throat for 90 minutes is not the way to produce an entertaining movie.
  2. I know this is a megabump. So I got the DVD from Netflix. I've been meaning to see it for a while, and finally got around to it. It's a little silly but there was one scene that I just can't get over. Dude walks into the lion's den at the zoo. Offscreen, he loses an arm. OK, I can deal with that. Then, we see a lion rip his other arm off at the elbow... by lightly tugging on it. Does this guy's muscles, skin and tendons have the tensile strength of tissue paper? Come on, it doesn't work that way. See, here's the way it is. I can suspend disbelief for the movie, that there is a toxin that is making people kill themselves. But unless you provide some other explanation, you can't have a dude's arm get ripped off because a lion is lightly tugging on it. I'm 30 minutes in. The next hour is going to be a very, very long hour.

    DC reboot

I hate the idea of B. Gordon being Batgirl again, but at least they didn't wipe The Killing Joke from history. Is Arsenal still a heroin addict? And is Lian still dead? Because they can undo that, and it won't bother me at all.
  4. Just got back from Final Destination 5. I was not impressed with the 3-D at all. It looked like transparencies on top of each other. It was distracting. It looked really fake. Certainly not worth the extra $3. The only reason I saw it in 3-D is because a 2-D version was not available.

    DC reboot

I hate reboots. DC is taking about making the heroes "modern" to relate to "modern" audiences. Sure. If we're talking about 1994. Because those costumes are 1994 Image Comics.

I thought the way they handled Kharma leaving was well done - admitting she's on maternity leave. I loved how the crowd was cheering her. And for the love of all that is holy, never ever give the Bella twins a microphone ever again. My ears were bleeding after watching that clip. I would rather listen to Vickie Guerrero or Melina screech than listen to the Bella twins talk. Good grief that was horrible.
  7. Yep. The reveal of Ghostface was OK, but the casting is all wrong. Physically, I'm not buying the killer. No way is that scrawny kid strong and tough enough to be Ghostface. This will be a spoiler. The ending hurt the movie. Overall final grade: B.

Every day this man continues to be alive, he's lucky. Not only will I not be surprised when I see the inevitable story of his drug-related death (probably by overdose) I am actually surprised he's still alive. TNA needs to tell this guy it's either the drugs or his employment. When he turns up dead it's going to be bad for the whole industry. You better believe WWE will be blamed for it too, even though Hardy's been with TNA for some time.
  9. Not interested at all. I'm a politically active person. I've been a candidate for elective office (I got crushed) and I've volunteered for candidates. I maintain a political blog and I closely follow the news. I listen to both Rush Limbaugh and Rachel Maddow daily. My movies, TV and video games are an escape from that. I don't want my movies to be a two hour sermon. That's why I didn't like "the day after tomorrow" which rammed environmentalism down my throat for two hours. "Saw VI" was the only movie in the series to actively tick me off by being overtly political - it could have been a Barack Obama campaign commercial. I thought "John Q" was great right up to the end when they started preaching about health care. And associating Red State with Fred Phelps? For crying out loud, how lazy can you get? How stereotypical can you get? Everyone hates Fred Phelps, on the left and right. The man is nothing more than an attention whore. His sole purpose in life is to get on the news as much as possible by pissing everyone off. I'm pretty far to the right (I refused to vote for McCain in 2008 because he's far too moderate for me) and I have no use for Phelps. The whole premise of the movie is bovine feces. Naming it "red state" is unnecessarily provocative and insulting. I hope this bombs.

Even if it is Bret Hart. Watching/reading someone blather about how great he is is annoying even if the person actually is great. If you're truly great, you don't need to blow your own horn. People will know.
  11. Just got back from the theater. This movie was horrible. It was so bad, it actually had me laughing at the end. It's become a self-parody. It is comedy-horror now. I won't spoil it, but there was a BIG SWERVE at the end. The writers actually think they are being smart and clever. Consider this: I was the only person in the theater. Literally, the only person. I watched it all by myself.

Has anyone played the DS version? Is it any good?

And he was one of the greatest ever, no doubt about it. He doesn't need to talk about how great he is, because everyone already knows. No one likes a bragger.

In fairness, even in a Republican year with a very flawed opponent ("from my days serving in Vietnam") it's a deep blue state. Any Republican in Connecticut is fighting an uphill (if not Quixotic) battle. Remember four years ago, the Republican finished dead last in a 3-way race. Lieberman now represents the Sore Loser Party in the Senate. It would have been really funny to see her serve alongside Lieberman, given Lieberman's long history of preening for the cameras by standing against media violence for the children!!! I did think her statements on the minimum wage were courageous.
  15. Are they making a version for the Nintendo DS?

Lex Lugar switched heel/face alignment many times in the 1980's and 1990's. What is great about turns is when Wrestler A is a face, fighting Wrestler B, who is a heel. W-B is a coward and is constantly begging off W-A. A year later, they're feuding again, but both have switched heel/face alignment and the roles are reversed. Even as a kid, I thought that was completely illogical.

Shazam! It was Kane who attacked the Undertake after all. This is a huge shock, folks! Actually, it is a mild surprise that WWE is so stupid that they would go with a "reveal" that everyone figured out 30 seconds into the storyline, when it was introduced two months ago. Facepalm.
  18. This isn't video game related but it's along the same lines: Spoony on the "Mazes & Monsters" movie. We see the same hysteria in the objections to video games.
  19. Another day, and another set of shameless lies by the mainstream media. A British "newspaper" reported that Rockstar Games was going to make a "Grand Theft Auto" sequel about the infamous crimes in Rothbury. The problem is there was no such game. It was made up out of whole cloth. The "newspaper" didn't even bother to contact Rockstar Games to confirm the rumor - because facts would get in the way of a despicable smear. This wasn't even a mistake. This is a fabrication meant to smear a company to increase readership for the so-called "newspaper" - something that should not surprise anyone who has followed the mainstream media's coverage of the video game industry for any length of time. This is truly shameful. When it comes to video games, you simply cannot trust the mainstream news media. This has been obvious for nearly two decades now, and the MSM has made no effort to reform itself despite repeated humiliations caused either by laziness or outright dishonesty. Unless you're reading a source specifically dedicated to covering the video game industry, you have to take what you're reading with a 50 pound block of salt. Because you will need a lot more than a grain.

  21. According to Netflix, it's an adaptation of the Supergirl story in the Superman/Batman comic. Cool.

    Random NBA musings

Does anyone think the Cavs would not trade LeBron if they thought it would benefit them? Remember when the Atlanta Hawks exiled Dominique Wilkins to the LA Clippers to position themselves for the playoffs? Atlanta fans were FURIOUS about it. Or when the New York Knicks traded Patrick Ewing to Seattle? This is a business. Teams have no loyalty to players, so players owe no loyalty in return.

    Movie rules

    55) All pit bulls, rottweilers, Dobermans etc. are vicious dogs. 56) If a character is shown to be completely incompetent in a certain skill, the character will always use that skill to save the day.
  25. After the shamelessly political nature of the last film, I expect it will be revealed/retconned that President Obama has been behind it all along and that Jigsaw was merely acting on Obama's orders. Rush Limbaugh will be killed in some horrible manner, probably involving Oxycontin. The music during the credits will be those little kids singing "Barack Hussein Obama, mmm! mmm! mmm!" As much as I've ragged on the Saw series, Part 6 was the first one that actually ticked me off. The first one was great. The second one was OK even if it was a needless retcon. The franchise started tanking in 3 and got worse in 4 and 5. Part 6, though, was the first one to actively tick me off by being overtly political.
