Random wrestling thoughts

Max is right. They're not going to use the channel to cut into their DVD sales. They're going to show the exact same stuff as the 24/7 channel that already exists on digital cable. Generally, PPV shows have about a four month shelf life before they make room for new product. Not out of the question to assume they could do full replays after half a year or so has passed.

They could go through every piece of footage that they own that's never been on a DVD and still have tens of thousands of hours to work with.

Should be interesting to see how they handle all the royalties involved in running the channel. Obviously, if they were to do it like with DVD sales, then they'd have to cut a check to every single person that shows up on the channel, currently employed or not.

Drew McIntyre's new theme is pretty awesome.

Too bad they're using it for Drew McIntyre.

I'm quite happy with Drew. He's one of the few guys they kept in developmental long enough to become a good worker before they pushed him. His personality needs a little something to avoid being a bland Scotch Orton wannabe but all things considered he's a good midcard talent. I just hope they don't Ziggler him by having him wrestle no-one but Morrison and Kane forever.

Work-wise, he's fine for WWE style. He has zero character outside of Randy Orton version #18, however.

He'll fight the same three people over and over because that's how they book titles, but he's not going to jump from upper midcarder back to jobber like Ziggler did. He's too tall.

Plus 18 stone sounds more impressive than 250 lbs.

I like the rise of the Brits in WWE, we've always been a little under-represented. Regal's been our only real rep for years now.

Watching TNA. Doug William is and always has been fucking AWESOME.

Watching Smackdown now. You were right Dubs, MacIntyres new theme is great. I like the slow threatening thing, is the sort of theme that you expect from ROH, not WWE.

Also loved the way luke placed Mysterio on Punks shoulders for the GTS, like a sacrifice on an altar. Great religious imagery they are starting to employ in the Cult of Punk.

Guys, you have to watch Smackdown this week for the following three acts of heel greatness-

3- The way Gallows hands Rey to Punk to set up the GTS.

2- Drew McIntyres new music.

1- Dave Batista. Just him. Walking. Standing there. Every week dressing like the most incredible prick in the world. Seriously, if you saw his golf-cap outfit a few weeks ago that's nothing on what he wore this time. I worship at the altar of Heel God Dave Batista.

Throw in Vickie Guerrero and the Ted Dibiase Hall of Fame video and you've got more great heels than a foot fetish website.

YES. I remember watching him in 2002 and thinking there was never a chance for him in a major fed. I'm glad I was wrong.

Well, he's in TNA, but I take your point.

He's been Britain's best wrestler for around a decade now, I've seem him at live shows a lot of times and he's never not great. I'm really happy that he's getting the exposure and recognition that he so richly deserves, its great that the guys in TNA are using him in this manner.

Someone has all of the HDNet ROH shows up on Youtube.

Haven't watched ROH in years, so I'll give it a look.

Show opens with recap of Tyler Black/Roderick Strong match. Aries interferes and I already don't care.

Black comes out for a promo with Cornette. I like his work, but he's not a promo guy, at all. He looks like a truck driver and he sounds like a kid here. Roderick interrupts. Black isn't so bad now. Roderick sounds like Peter Brady, still hasn't got his big boy voice yet. They said nothing.

Alex Payne and Bobby Dempsey vs Steve Corino and Kevin Steen

These generic entrance themes are horrendous. Corino? That's random. Mike Hogwood sounds like Harry Carey. Payne fucks up a leapfrog 30 seconds into the match and they never really recover. Steen gave Payne a powerbomb into the apron to cut off his... actually, they've been beating him up the entire time. Match was fine once Dempsey got the hot tag. He's not horrible for the 7 seconds he's needed. After that they just went back to beating down Payne and knocked him out. Okay. That was weird. I guess they were trying to build Steen vs Payne, but I don't see how this did it.

Might watch the rest later.

PPV Name/Theme Ideas:

Tournament

Legends PPV

War Games

Street Fight

Money in the Bank PPV

Roulette

Battle Bowl PPV

So we have the option of a "Totally Not King of the Ring" tournamnet, or a bunch of gimmick PPVs. I just don't see the point of Hell in a Cell/Elimination Chamber PPVs. Use these matches rarely and it would draw more interest. That said, I have wanted a War Games match for years.

Though they may be big stars on television and draw relatively high ratings, that doesn't necessarily translate into big checks for the stars of TNA's Knockouts division.

In light of Awesome Kong's contractual dispute with TNA Wrestling, multiple sources have noted that the average pay for a female performer in the organization is between $200 to $400 per appearance. However, it's widely assumed that Christy Hemme and Lisa Marie Varon (a/k/a Tara) make more money due to their past ties with World Wrestling Entertainment with sources believing that Kong makes slightly more than $400 per shot, which is considered a "high end salary" in the No. 2 wrestling organization in the world.

It's interesting to note that a female performer who made the "high end salary" of $400, exclusively appeared on television, and appeared on every single television event held over the course of a calender year would only garner $26,000 at most. Although, that number comes in before one figures in road expenses, wardrobe expenses and taxes. Regarding travel, TNA solely covers airfare, leaving talent to cover the rest including lodging. Also note, there is no downside guarantee, thus meaning talent only get paid when they are used.

With that being said, TNA holds live events most weeks and permits talent to seek independent bookings, thus allowing them to garner more money. Furthermore, television exposure greatly increases a wrestler's booking fee, most especially for talent previously not seen on national television.

Regarding Kong, she has asked for a raise on several occasions but company officials have apparently not honored her request despite her lofty standing on television. Kong reportedly blew up last spring when she found out that then newcomer Brutus Magnus was being paid more than her.

It was reported recently that Kong has regularly vented backstage about the company spending frivolously on newcomers. Since then, multiple sources have confirmed that she was very upset with Ric Flair's wife being treated to limousine service on the company's dime at a recent show. TNA never grants limo service to its female performers.

It is believed that Kong has several years remaining on her contract with TNA. She refused to appear on the company's recent UK tour and at time it was widely assumed that she was upset with Bubba the Love Sponge's controversial remarks concerning the country of Haiti. However, multiple sources say the issue has since been resolved and that her ongoing problems with the organization are related to pay.

The primary reason Gail Kim left TNA for World Wrestling Entertainment was due to the significant discrepancy between the amount of money being offered by both companies. According to multiple sources, Kim did not want to leave TNA, but felt she had no choice but to bolt for WWE due to the massive difference in pay.

All I can say is, damn.

That's why TNA wrestlers still take indy bookings.

Yes, but jesus, I didn't expect to still be so low, I know male wrestlers used to get around $500 a show during the early days, but with TNA as big as it is now(Or is pretending it is) you'd think they'd give the people more money. Also, it makes me wonder how much TNA were trying to low ball Gail Kim.

Disgracefully low pay considering how much they pay some people in that company. At no point should a regular on TV make less than I used to before I became a student again, and in the case of TNA women if they aren't making additional bookings I was out-earning them by quite a bit.
