  1. Episode 9 was freaking perfect, and episode 10 gave me what I had spent the series up til then wanting more than anything in the exploration of the relationship between Matt and Foggy.
  2. Were someone to put up enough money to guest host an episode on a suggested book, would that book have to be of a certain genre? Are their any requirements besides being a book w/o pictures?
  3. That last shot of Stick from episode 7 was right out of Romita Jr's pages from Man Without Fear.
  4. Like Dan said a while ago, I'm not usually a figure man, but these look terrific. http://thebatmanuniverse.net/sideshow-collectibles-5/
  5. You Got Served Remember when this was a thing back in '04? Yeah, it sucked then and it sucks now. Like, almost stunningly bad, in a way most movies aren't anymore. Marques Houston is a tried and true actor, but B2K, who were all 19 or 20 at the time, barely tread water. Omarion's just about okay, but the writing doesn't give any of them favors. There's a hilariously ridiculous kid character whom I predicted getting gunned down the moment he appeared, even though that wasn't really foreshadowed because he was so cheeky. The thing is, dancing movies aren't all crap. Stomp the Yard is a perfectly decent movie about black fraternities and their step-shows. I own that one and it's fine. But You Got Served was one of those early 2000s movies that tried to capture an element of the MTV youth generation that was rapidly dying out.
  6. Gotta disagree with you Chris, I think the actor for Chibi Murdock is really good. I loved how the series began with the accident already in progress, and the kid knows how to hit each emotional extreme.
  7. Four episodes in, and the series hooked me from the very beginning. A lot of people on my FB seem a lot more lukewarm, but IDK what the show's done that it hasn't nailed. It's pretty much the Bendis run's tone put to screen. I love the realization of Daredevil. They're very coy with presenting his powers directly to the audience, but they don't hide it either. There are subtle touches such as the way Matt reacts to things which work well. I'm not as high on D'Onofrio's Kingpin as I'd like to be. He's playing it a bit more vulnerable, and he's not matching the innate intensity of Michael Clarke Duncan. Everyone else is perfect for me though.
  8. Absolutely co-sign on Ms. Hoover being a bad teacher. Krabappel and some of the others are at worst lazy, Hoover's always been abjectly apathetic to the point of almost nihilism. I've always disliked her. Plus she once called Lisa a "PC Thug".
  9. I like Thor 2 and Iron Man 2. They're not the best movies ever, but somewhere along the line people think that gives them allowance to yell "THESE MOVIES ARE SHIT!!!" I think Thor 2 is certainly the most throwaway save for the ending scene with Loki. But it's perfectly decent. Iron Man 3 ticks me off the most, but I believe that's an overall minority opinion. Winter Solider's the best for me. Guardians was fun but not the end-all, be-all.
  10. A bit more body armor than I would have preferred, but I'm very much still down. Looks awesome
  11. Major Congrats Pandy!!! My essay on race in comics was heavily quoted by Dr. Osvaldo Oyola in his recent essay on his site The Middle Spaces.

    I'm Engaged!

I honestly believed this was some April Fools Day prank but I'm glad to know it's not! Congrats!
  13. Went to my shop and dropped 35 bucks on several Convergence titles. The Question: Pretty good, possibly the best written out of the bunch. Flash-Speed Force: Pretty solid. Nice return for Wally. Superman: Very good. Writing and art were both solid. The Atom: Kind of weird and random. The Titans: S'alright. Batman and Robin: I really liked how this was done in deference to the Post-Crisis Bruce and Jason relationship. Writing was tight. Artwork was blech. Denys Cowan is not for everybody. Nightwing/Oracle: T'was okay. I still don't like Simone's writing, but she did okay for the most part here. Art was okay. Batgirl: The one I was looking forward to the most. It's a bit hit and miss for me. I was going in expecting to be disappointed, and in a way I was. Cassandra's voice is off for the first half, as I figured it would be. There's a bizarre scene where she and Steph argue over eating a gerbil which I hadda re-read because that scene came off as such bullshit. It's just about buyable because of the context of living under the dome. At this point I have to decide whether I want my favorite characters appearing at all or whether I want them appearing and written well. It should be the latter, but the story's not done so there's still hope for redemption next time. Miles Morales-The Ultimate Spider-Man: Good if super-rushed. Miles beats Dr. Doom and all of Hydra virtually off -panel. The hell.
  14. Yeah, that was easily the biggest waste.
  15. In addition to Cap 3 Civil War right? Hope it doesn't overwhelm them, but I agree with Winter Solider being the best Marvel Studios movie thus far.
  16. Outhousers reporting that Doctor Who is set to continue for five more years.
  17. "WE DO NOT SAY HIS NAME..." Born Again quote. I'm sold.
  18. .......Dunno. Less than 36 hours until the next episode!
  19. YEAH I caught that too, and while I like the current signal well enough, that was a awesome tease.
  20. I appreciate Ramos' style a lot. I can definitely understand why people would not like him on Spider-Man, and he's not my favorite artist either, but I have enjoyed his run during Slott's run. His styled has been tailored more towards a mainstream superhero look. If you compare his current stuff to the Death in the Family Goblin story from 13 years ago, it's radically different. There's ways to do it, but too many writers like to write Peter the same way he's been in their heads like it's still the early 80s, as though the guy hasn't learned a single thing about how to live as Peter and Spider-Man. I'm not saying he should have everything under control because his struggles define his character. But the whole "GAHHHH! I CAN'T LET ON THAT I'M REALLY SPIDER-MAN!" thing has been played to the hilt in a way that's...it's written like we've never seen it before, from ASM or any other character.
  21. Amazing Spider-Man vol.3 #17. Probably gonna drop the title again after the next issue wraps up the oh-so-unpredictable story of Peter losing his business. Slott's been slogging through the series' relaunch ever since it returned, and while Spider-Verse was amusing enough and even fun in some places, Slott's actual ASM issue were by far the weakest. I can also go the rest of my life without seeing the whole flustered Peter Parker can't keep his double life balanced trope again, which Slott seems to enjoy exhausting. I like Ramos, but art has never trumped bad writing when it comes to Spider-Man. That's a fact of the character, God knows.
  22. A friend of a friend scored free preview tickets to see Furious 7, so I caught that last night. I'm not a huge devotee of the Fast and the Furious Franchise, but I've seen, like, half of them. They get more fun as they go one, with Fast 6 being an absolutely joy in redonkulous action approaching Commando levels of zaniness. This latest one is definitely just as good if not better than the 6th in terms of action, with the finale almost becoming an anime in how super-powerful Diesel, Statham and Rock all are. You never go in for the stories, but the series has yet to totally insult my intelligence. And it's nice to see a pretty diverse cast where white guys, at least in this movie, are the minority. Female characters are either Michelle Rodriguez I.E. badass, or Jordana Brewster, who practically stay at home in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant. The last five minutes are purposefully, indulgently heartfelt dedications to Paul Walker, which end the movie on an emotional feel. It's obvious that the last five minutes Walker's comprised of far away shots of his brother and CGI renderings of his face, but it's not done cynically. I can't imagine this franchise continuing...okay yes I can, but if this is the end it ends on a satisfying note. And it has evil Tony Jaa, who is awesome.
