Venneh
....those still existed?
dc20willsave
There were around 300 still around in the US. Family Video is the only rental place I see anymore. Almost certainly because, unlike Blockbuster, they stocked porn.
JackFetch
Since porn is free on the internet, why would anyone go rent it anymore?

Professor
When the two near me closed down, it was really sad. I figured that I could get some cheap movies, but almost instantly all they had left were 125 copies of shit movies and 17 copies of Disc 2 of Season 4 of Dexter. Even in closing, they couldn't get it right.
dc20willsave
I just know that they went down with me technically owing them 20 bucks so woo for me!
Koete
Memories of Blockbuster: renting Universal Studios Monsters and Abbott and Costello movies with the kick ass VHS covers, the cover of Herzog's Nosferatu which I was too young to rent but is burned in my mind, and my mom renting god awful family movies 90% of the time. KnightWing
They used to do this thing when I was a kid where, for a donation of $1 to a children's charity, they'd let you rent unlimited Kids/Family VHS tapes (one at a time) for free for an entire month. I went through every DCAU VHS they had inside of a few weeks. It was pretty epic. I also remember seeing that Nosferatu cover at Blockbuster. Scared the crap out of me. JasonC
As of January, Blockbuster's brick and mortar stores are dead. The brick and mortar stores died in the UK back at the beginning of the year. They were certainly dead by the time I moved in May. I miss them. They went into administration, then get bought out of it, and are now back in administration.
Stavros
I'm going past a Blockbuster later, I'll have a look and see if it's open.
dc20willsave
I never had access to a Blockbuster until college. I had plenty of awesome Video Stores growing up but there was something weirdly awesome about Blockbuster even though, looking back, it really wasn't all that special. Stavros
It was the racks of Doritos and Popcorn, made the place look professional. Most of my early cinephilia was fed by Blockbuster, I do have some love for the place. Back in 2003-4 I was renting down there a couple of times a week. Until y'know, I started earning enough money to buy everything I wanted to watch.
Dread
Which is why the whole town knows Grandpa is into Asian trannys. I'll have you know that Ladyboys of Bangkok 9 is a cinematic masterpiece!
Molly
I dunno, the cinematography in 6 is much better. And the German Expressionist influence make up for the black and white/subtitles.
JasonC
I'm going past a Blockbuster later, I'll have a look and see if it's open. There are actual physical stores still? All the ones within 20-30 miles of me have been shut since at least May.
slothian
There's one on the main street where I live in Newcastle. Not that I use it.

Pan-dub
I have just watched the bit in 'Batman & Robin' that scared me to the point of running out the cinema crying when I was 9. This time I pictured Tom Hardy saying "This is very painful. For me."
JackFetch
Warner Brothers is making a Temple Run movie. I don't really have anything bad to say about this. It seems like a perfect fit. I just hope there is no Candy Crush game on the horizon.
Koete
Ben Wyatt is the MVP of Parks and Recreation so far this season. New Girl has yet to top Winston playing with a cat in an attempt to get it to kill itself. The Blacklist probably won't top the Tom Noonan episode. dc20willsave
I honestly haven't watched any of Parks and Rec this season. I'm thinking I might order a pizza tonight and shotgun the season thus far tonight.
Stavros
Good decision, it's been good as usual.
JackFetch
I was reading about the BatKid stuff in San Francisco and thinking about how Pawnee would screw that up. That would make for a great Parks and Rec episode.
